GM never showed the Camaro love. There were many Famous Mustangs and Mopars. Shelby's, Bullitt, General Lee, the Mopars in the FF Movies, etc. The Camaro only had Bumblebee, (thanks to Michael Bay). They never really promoted the car. Because they didn't want to step on the Corvette toes. It was a great car it will be missed...
To be fair, the general Lee isn't a exactly a good thing to be associated with in today's cultural climate, and ff movies aren't really viewed in a positive light anymore by most people.
@@themidnighttavern6784 Take the flag off the General Lee, and it's still a dope car. You could even put a big red X with tap on the flag if you wanted to. And as far as FF goes. It still makes stupid money, and people go and watch them. Not like they use to pre Paul Walker. But it does better than I expect them to do.
@@themidnighttavern6784 I've owned my General Lee for over 23 years. It was my dream car as a kid and was one of the reasons I got into cars. I'm glad because where I live I've never had anything said about the car.
Roman your 100% correct. Ford should never have affiliated the Mustang E with the Mustang name. It has no business being called a Mustang. i think it was just a marketing ploy to get people to feel better about buying it.
It didn't bother me at first. Telling people I drive a mustang just for them to be amazed that I drive an electric vehicle is annoying. I feel insulted. You can't get a convertible and/or a manual in the stupid electric mockery. My mustang is both manual and convertible.
I don't understand why they didn't resurrect the Maverick name plate for the Mach E, which used to be a two or 4 door sedan, not a pickup truck. It's like they've forgotten their history!
Doesn't really matter though. They made the Mach E to be able to make a new Mustang, it literally saved the mustang from the EV sales. Ford is now doing the Muscle Car department all the justice for 2024 and up. While Dodge is about to flop, and while the Corvette keeps GM afloat.
Weird how I'll see ads for the Mustang and the Chargers and Challengers and then see them on the street. I can't recall the last time I've seen an ad for a Camaro.
@Carson Allman I'm talking about an actual ad. Dodge took over the Fast and Furious franchise. However, I still see Dodge ads for the Charger and Challenger all the time. Even seen them while watching a NASCAR race and Dodge hasn't been in that series since like 2016.
10:33 exactly! The Mustang Mach e is most definitely a branding exercise. It was originally going to be branded as a Ford escape but some Ford executives deemed there wouldn't be enough interest in that. Hence the Mustang theme.
I am 73 years young and I lived and took part in the muscle car era. Electric cars are souless, sterile machines that remove the driver from the thrill of controlling handfuls of power making uproarious, incredible sounds. I cannot imagine the drivers of today's Mustangs, Challengers and Camaros surrendering them for a battery-powered anything.....you just sit in it and steer. BIG WHOOP! And to put speakers in an EV to make it sound like an ICE, to me, is an addmission of failure. If this is the direction mankind is taking then, Lord, bring me home.
I’m not going to throw a hissy fit over driving an EV. But I won’t drive something fake engine noise. It sounds awful. ICE is what it is. An EV is what it is.
I mean, if your generation had done something about climate change, maybe we wouldn't have to take this drastic course of action at this moment in time. Maybe not you specifically, but your generation will go down in history as screwing over younger generations at every opportunity they could get. For the first time in history, younger generations are less prosperous and have less to look forward to than the generations that came before.
I think the 6th gen suffered with marketing, inconsistent major refreshes, a lot of technology that drove price up, and biggest thing less livable. The 5th gen as I see it almost done right, that's why it passed the Mustang in sales. It had a eyecatching retro styling as well as being modern with things like rear independent suspension. It represented what the Muscle car needs to be. Similarly to which the Mustang and Challenger pertain. The 6th gen doesnt have the emotion you feel when you walk up look at it as you would do with the others. The biggest flaw, it was focused to have pure sports car handling which ultimately was better than the Mustang and Challenger but came at a cost, making it smaller and less livable especially with poor outward visibility. It was fine if it was the only sports car from Chevy but it is overshadowed by the Corvette which people will go to for the best handling. It find it somewhat weird that the Challenger is the oldest of the three(older than even the 5th gen Camaro) but has risen up to be the top two because of marketing and its mission statement. At the end the 6th gen was one hell of a car, but not the car that people needed. Which I wish GM properly acknowledged, and give us a new gen that goes back to its roots.
Mike Williams, I agree 100%! I share a similar story but with a 98 LS1 Z28. I have a mint/low mileage 2018 SS1LE, and the driving experience made me forget about the 4th/5th Gen variants. I’ll take the sports car that can dominate at the track and still represent the Camaro’s 1LE heritage..👍
@@TexJTDroning I would love a ws6, I was a lot boy when that car came out. I was 17 and got to drive one a couple times, super fun. I personally loved the stying
I have to side with Roman on this one, the mach e was definitely just a branding exercise. However with Chevy on the other hand, they did destroy the blazer name, so I could see them doing something like that….and that saddens me as a chevy guy. Great video as always guys!
My daily driver (and only car) is a 2018 2SS that I have 105k miles on. My previous car, and the first car I ever bought after I started my career, was a 2012 RS Camaro that got me into the muscle car culture. That 2012 RS turned me into a car enthusiast that enjoys going to Barret-Jackson (I live in Phoenix anyway) as opposed to the car apathetic person I was who grew up with my dad's old explorer and the family's Grand Caravan who originally went car shopping that day to look for a nicely appointed Ford Escape. The Camaros have been great cars for the last two generations, and I'll really miss them. Not only because it's a shame to see that market segment reaching a sunset, but also on a personal level because it represents more than a decade now of that fun culture I had no idea I wanted to be a part of that introduced me to great friends and great memories brought about by such a captivating product. Farethewell Camaro, I shall keep mine as long as I can! I think the one thing where they really missed the boat was the restyling in 2019. I was so happy the stars aligned for me to get a 2018, becuase the 2019 styling (and the subsequent tweaks) just didn't make it appealing as a 'muscle' car. The 2016-2018 looks like something that competes with the Mustang and the Challenger - it looks like part of the trio. the 2019+ looks like a body kit on a malibu. I definitely get they were going for a more futuristic styling to appeal to a 'younger crowd', but I think it ended up just being weird styling that didn't appeal to anyone. Additionally, while I love the sound of my burbling V8, I do look forward to an electrified muscle car in the next few years. I actually got a survey several years ago from Chevrolet asking me, as a current 2ss owner, what I'd want to upgrade to in a future Camaro, and I remember them listing a very intriguing 650HP Hybrid powertrain or something along those lines - that is what interests me. A muscle car, to me, isn't about the particular power plant, it's about the 'attitude' as was said around the 11:00 mark, but not in the way that was meant. If the engineers behind Camaros, Challengers and Mustangs can keep that attitude alive with electrified vehicles that leap frog performance characteristics of the current generation the same way that current platforms leapfrogged the original cars of the 70's, I welcome that. The attitude is about absolute, raw performance and the thrill of having a performant car, not of having a car that has this or that particular architecture. If I can get a beefy looking coupe with 750 HP and 750 lb/ft or Torque from an Electric engine that will allow me to have 0-60 time around 2.5 seconds, what of that is NOT a muscle car? It might have an electric hum instead of a V8 burble, but at the end of the day it is still the expression of a muscle car in the purest sense. And if that transition can allow others to join in the fun and the culture like my 2012 v6 that out performed the 70's era cars did for me, then I sincerely welcome it. Especially if the alternative is that segment rolling off into the sunset leaving us nothing but the memories and the faint odor of burning rubber. When I finally have to trade in my 450HP 2018 2SS with 300k miles and it's barely rolling into the lot because of the years of smiles, I hope to replace it with a 7th generation Electric 2SS with 750 HP. So long as it isn't a crossover. :P I Do agree a muscle car needs to be a coupe.
My favorite Camaro will always be the ‘85 IROC-Z I rode in as a kid regularly when that model first came out, and considered buying a ZL1 back in 2012, but have been surprised for quite a few years that it was still in production given the notoriety around the Mustang and Challenger - appreciate Chevy for the long run though, definitely an icon.
You know it had a black/black 87 305/5speed with t-tops and gold stripe and wheel package miss that car so much. They need to remake it..this body has been around since 2010..it’s bland and boring now..
@@donteadoss better yet is a 90 iroc-z and since you can’t get a 350 with t-tops in 90-92…here’s my build A black 1990 with gold wheels and tan or black interior with t-tops& 305 and a 5 speed only as that gave the 305 motor the 350 cam -you don’t get this cam if it’s a auto-and it was only 10hp less. Best of both worlds ….I was pissed in 90’ when you no longer could get a 350 with the tops…only years for 5.7&tops is 87,88 &89.
As a 6th Gen Camaro owner I have never enjoyed a car as much as the one I have now the 6.2L is excellent the handling is awesome and it begs for the curves. I am going to keep this car for an extremely long time. While they did say that this isn't the end for the Camaro I do not think it will follow the same Big V8 formula. So for the 6th Gen I say Good Job Chevy on the Six gen. EDIT: I am going to have to go with Roman on this you can't really get a Crossover to take the curves as well a coupe can. My Camaro takes curves faster than I have ever been able to do in most crossovers. Its about the whole package. The Camaro gave me something that I love and enjoy it is like I have a complete package a curve loving, straight line performing and a Roaring V8 adrenaline pumping car.
As a diehard Camaro fan, I hate to hear this, but GM gave up on the platform right after the 6th gen debut. They've been throwing all the money into going fully electric. Also, while Dodge has been powersliding Chargers and Challengers across my tv screen I can't remember the last time I've seen a Camaro ad. They didn't build hype around the car like Dodge has. GM did the same thing to the Chevrolet SS.
Really unfortunate. It was the best replacement option for people who didn't like the C8 corvette, but still wanted a traditional V8 muscle car with a manual transmission. You can sit and argue with me all day about how modern automatics are faster and more efficient, or how an electric motor will be faster/more powerful, but for someone who enjoys driving, there is no replacement for the immersive feeling of rowing through the gears on a big v8.
The biggest problem with the Camaro was all the downsides when you compare it to the Mustang. It had some of the worst visibility of any car ever. The Mustang was cheaper. It's slower than the competition by a lot. The seats were terrible to ride in for more than a 30 minute drive. The suspension made it ride like it was required to wear a kidney belt. It was basically the same since 2010 with just some facelifts. The only change was the ZL1 really. Chevy abandoned it years ago. I haven't seen a Camaro commercial in probably a decade. The ONLY reason anyone would buy a Camaro over a Mustang is because they're a "Chevy Guy"
@@MercOne they aren't selling because Chevy is pricing themselves out of their market. 50k for a decent Camaro, and 90k for the zl1. No one is paying that. OR you can get a Camaro just under 40k with a 2.0 turbo- who's buying that thing. Also overpriced. Bottom line Chevy has lost touch with the customer base and overpriced what they have. Thus digging their own grave.
im tommys age and the man just doenst understand muscle car appeal. its about power and brashness, the mach e is definitely not a true mustang, and im not even a ford guy.
@@simrantoor85 yeah no electric car will ever have the appeal of a muscle car. They have their own appeal but it won’t be what we love about muscle cars.
I had 2016 SS1 for 2 years. Love the power. Unfortunately had to get new transmission(at 86K) and few other things. $4K + later, sold it ASAP before something else happened. 😁👍
Development divisions within GM have never willingly played nice, especially with their performance engines. Camaros trying to get Corvette engines, Buick sourcing an engine for the GNX, even Lotus fighting with Opel back when GM owned them. Lots of friction, usually because there's a tradition of whoever developed the engine will get upstaged by whoever developed the chassis. Meanwhile Dodge is begging for more models to put the Hellcat into. 1:10 Weird how better handling is seen as a negative. It's not the Camaro that's known to hate crowds....
I’m glad to say I just got a 2019 RS and I’m finally apart of the Camaro family before the cancellation. Always wanted one and it’s so damn sexy, this is most def a sports car not a muscle!
As someone who used to mostly seek out only Japanese or German performance cars, I saw the Camaro as a great option with this latest SS 1LE. I love this car. It has plenty of the sound, speed and character of a muscle car, but track performance is more in line with what I’m used to. Strong brakes, stiff chassis, firm suspension but excellent ride quality and daily drivability. I don’t care about the horsepower wars. There are a few occasions where I wouldn’t mind seeing how much quicker the 650 hp ZL1 engine would be, but 450 hp is already plenty. It’s gotten ridiculous in my opinion. That said, it is neat to see factory cars that have basically all your aftermarket work done already.
Oh and it's a car you can work on unlike the German and to an extent Japanese performance cars. I owned a 2004 GTO and been around 5th and 6th gen Camaros an amateur can pull those motors if needed with plain normal tools and the maintenance items are basically shared with trucks so they are everywhere.
I'm not much older than Tommy I'm 28 and I'm 100% not on board with the ev over muscle the visceral feeling of an angry V8 screaming under the hood of a badass ride is second to none
Having driven all three current muscle cars, the Challenger was the easiest for daily driving. The Camaro was the worst driving experience I’ve ever had due to seating position, and windows that are hard to see out of. I really wanted the Camaro to be successful, and it’s a shame the car was so polarizing.
Poor functional design. I can see a new gen of a high output V6 mild (integrated drivetrain) hybrid, thus overall taking up about the same longitudinal (powertrain) space as now, better visibilty/sight-lines, lower tail end. Lighter, generally downsized a bit but somewhat re-proportioned. Smaller tire/wheel assembly but still proportionate to the whole package. Back to the original formula. Less puffed/pumped up. 2+2 handler but still very decent straight line. Looking at spec for spec 023 v 69, the current one amazingly isn't that much bigger than the original, a little taller, a little wider, about the same length - but it is more pumped up. Some might say that modern technology and safety features make up the difference, so what are you going to do? I still say they're going to put it on a diet and visibility program.
Personally I think the reason the camaro is a great car with alot of models and trims, unfortunately it wasn't everyone's cup of tea, it was a bit underrated, when compared even to the mustang and challenger it performed quite well and the engines/horsepower were limited due to the camaro getting all the things from the corvette detuned, if the corvette and camaro was with a separate brand I think the camaro would still be going.
If you want a car that goes quicker/faster in a straight line, go Dodger or Ford. If you want a SPORTS car, by the Camaro. I have owned a 1985 and 2002 (35th edition) Camaro. Both were daily drivers and both were bought with the F-41 suspension and had manual transmissions. The 1985 went for almost 180,000 miles, the 2002 went 147,000 before I traded it for 2012 C6 Grand Sport Corvette. I'll take handling over straight line acceleration any day, regardless of manufacturer, but in my experience the handling crown has gone to Chevy for 5 decades...
It's honestly a tad surprising that the Camaro, Mustang and Challenger have barely changed since their retro design and still sell as well as they do. Well, not the Camaro.
I own a 2014 Camaro and I love it. I want my next car to be a Camaro, but electrified. So, if they were to not bring it back in an electrified option, I would get the Dodge Banshee.
Sold my 16 and have an order in for a 24' SS 1LE. I will never, ever, ever buy an electric muscle car. It's a stupid concept. The issue with these forward thinking decision makers at GM and Stellantis are going to run into is that Boomers, Xers and the older generation of Millennials in the buying market for a muscle car (they are the only segment that has money to spend on a new sports type car at the moment) are not yet buyers for these - Go to any car show/meet and there is a visceral hatred for EVs. Sorry Tommy - you are wrong - an SUV will never have the muscle car vibe. Its just another swoopy body line SUV you see in every Walmart parking lot in America. It's just the Mach E - don't call it anything else.
We need to remove Chevrolet CEO and start to advertise like the rest of the competition. I own a 6th generation 2018 SS Camaro, and I love my Camaro. The car is a beast and handles like a dream. Chevrolet just shot its foot by announcing their decision.
The "problem" with a Camaro is Chevy makes the Corvette. By the time I spec out a Camaro, I'm at the low end of the Corvette price. The back seat in a Camaro is only good to hold an over nite bag anyway.
Great show TFL!! The Mach-E should be called a Galaxie or something...it's NOT a Mustang! I'll stick with my 2008 GT/CS. Analog all the way and it does handle (lowered, trailing arms, etc.) Makes great noises and I get to shift my Hurst shifter! Prices are going up as companies kill them off...hurry and get a cool Camaro, Mustang or Challenger now! 💪cars rock!!
Mark my words guys, there is a Gen 7 ICE to compete with Mustang....with an optional electric Camaro. GM is always last to dance for a reason! Good video and big fan! -Mark
Where's your proof? GM still hasn't bothered to make a bronco/wrangler or trx/raptor competitor, and those are extremely profitable segments. If they can't be bothered to develop products that would print money for them, what makes you think they would care about jumping back into the less profitable, low volume muscle car segment?
@The Midnight Tavern You make a great argument about the trucks and SUV.... obviously i dont have any proof, this is more of a feeling and being in this game a long time.... while some may think i'm reaching and maybe am i am but i have been around long enough to know GM wont just hand that segment to Ford have for itself with a Gen 7 Mustang- Mark
I think they will bring the camaro back when they drop this new line of V8s I don’t think gm wants to do what they did with the C7 and 6th gen have the same motor in them because a 7th gen camaro rn would have that LT2 in it so I think they will drop it with the new line of sbc V8s just something y’all can think about that’s what I’m thinking could happen I don’t know tho
If all new cars become electric, where is everyone supposed to charge them? A lot of people live in apartments where you can't have your own personal charger. There would have to be chargers on every street corner just like gas stations. Plus who knows if the power grid could handle all those vehicles being charged at the same time. I'm not saying it can't be done. It's just going to take a lot of doing. 🙂
I think the lack of interior space really hurt this car… Chevy went sooo many years n didn’t even slightly improve on the interior space… i personally wished they would improve the backseat space n overall interior space at least for the v6/4cyl since its aimed at being a daily. Most people choose Mustang n Challenger bcos if the little space they get in those cars i for one love the camaro but would choose d challenger bcos i want my friends to enjoy my Car
As a Boomer, I have to disagree that a cross over can't be a muscle car. You can't tell me that the SRT Durango with 710hp doesn't have at least the spirit of a muscle car.
I'm not really suprised that GM is killing the Camaro. The sales have been dwindling for years, and the rumors of its cancelation have been around for a while. Plus, GM had put all of its resources into the Corvette, EV's, and trucks, and pretty much left the Camaro behind.
everybody be judging those who drive those, while they themselves be driving a boring yota to death, not knowing that they never lived. truly depressing
Roman, I'm sure you're right, there will be people who will want to hold on to their petrol engines in the future, but it's going to be more and more complicated. At some point into the future, the combustion engines will be probably restricted access to most populated areas due to the pollution, and this is already happening in Europe. If you don't believe this will happen, I'd like to remind you that they didn't allow smoking in public places at some point, even though smoking was very popular. As soon as this happened, the popularity started to fail, this coupled with the increased price on tobacco products. I'm sure that e-fuel will be more expensive than real gasoline while being just as polluting. So I think there won't be a lot of supporters who will want to hold on to this "pleasure" when the price per gallon will be $15-20 and you won't be allowed to drive in the city with the ICE car. Is GM wasting their money? They still got about 15 years to sell this stuff, I think. They might be able to capitalize on this technology (v8 ICE) while it's giving its last breath. God know there are a lot of people living outside cities, but that's only about 5 to 10 percent of the population, so 15 to 30 million people. Only, they don't all have the money to entertain this kind of expensive pleasure as a V8 engine in 2040.
Sad to see! I own an 88’ IROC and 2015 SS/1LE and I can’t believe they are doing away with the nameplate again. Chevy/GM does not listen to its actual customers. I’m 40 and have owned 6 different GM products from Chevy, to GMC to Cadillac. I’m a fanboy and they don’t care what I want or what I like. They like to government does as these please and give no shits about us. Sorry to get political, just felt the analogy was fitting. Thanks TFL.
The Camaro was just neglected like it was 20 years ago. Now I think they just don’t know what to do with it. It would probably have to go on a Cadillac platform to continue. And what nameplate will they use in NASCAR now?
Roman is correct. Mustang E is just a arguably better looking Tesla. I was surprised that you did not bring up the major issue which most mention with the Camaro...visibility. My wife chose a Mustang simply because it was so much easier to see out of than the Camaro.
NO! Just NO! That “Mustang” Mach E is as much of a Mustang as the Ford Suppository( Probe ) was. I hope that GM doesn’t do the same thing with the Blazer/Camaro idea that Tommy said. That would be horrible and should fail.
They’re replacing the Camaro with a new Chevelle. I have inside sources at GM (family). Word around the corporate offices is that they’re already working on an all electric Chevelle based on the styling of the 1970 Chevelle SS. Unfortunately it may be a 4 door… or may come in both 2dr and 4dr.
and to think gt500 dont only go in a straight line it can actually tie or beat cars like Ferrari f8 tributo Lamborghini huracan evo and porsche gt3rs around a track. Then 85k plus 15k in minimal upgrades the gt500 can run mid to low 9s in the 1/4 mile and 15k turbos or whipple supercharger and gt500 can run mid to low 8s in the 1/4 mile. oh plus you still have enough money by not buying the porsche you can have the gt500 with the mods and buy either a awd v8f150 or mustang gt for 35 45k and all they need is boost and fuel and can make up to 1200whp and Mustang gts have ran 7s and f150 8s in the 1/4 mile with stock sealed 5.0 and built factory trans you literally could own all 3 gt500 mustang gt and v8 coyote f150 for the money of the porsche and all being 5.0 coyote and gt500 the 5.2 predator which is based off the 5.0 coyote all of the parts and mods are interchangeable
Your "keeping the dream alive" is nothing but a deception. You don't bake a cherry pie then a cake with cherries on top and call them the same thing. That's just false advertising.
Camaro is excellent. GM is terrible at understanding what the have for performance cars if it doesnt say Corvette on it. Camaro literally out handled the Mustang and Challenger. Base LT1 trim outhandled Mustang PP2. The biggest hit Camaro took was the hideous 2019 refresh. They saved it in 2020 but it was too little too late. Whelp.... it looks like Ill be jumping feet first into the woodchipper of poor financial decisions to get one.
I just have to say the burnout you did in the blue GT500 was PAINFUL to watch. It was utter abuse of that poor car. 40% throttle would have been plenty. I just hate seeing journalists bounce these cars off of the rev limiter.
@@dmcharley64 The mach-e if I'm actually driving it on a regular basis. Those 60s cars were extremely unreliable compared to something like the mach-e, obviously less safe, less refined. I can see the appeal of the experience they offer. But sometimes people just want to go to work or to the store without smelling like gasoline and having to keep triple A on speed dial. If it's a weekend car, prob a mustang coupe. The 60s mustangs were better looking than the gto, especially in fastback form.
If you buy a car based on the spec sheet the camaro just isn't competitive. For example the z28 was probably the best pony car ever made, but I never see them. The gt350 I see all over the place. The zl1 is an amazing car, I personally drove one and was blown away(no pun intended). But somehow I rarely see zl1s but see hellcats all over the place. It's sad to see the camaro go but I am not all that surprised, 2023 will be remembered as the end of the modern muscle car era.
I disagree with the spec sheet comment. An SS Camaro beats the GT Mustang and demolishes the Scat Pack Challenger in nearly every performance category. The Zl1 1LE beats the GT500 and the Hellcat is great in a straight line and not much else.
I’ll tell you the sweet simple reason why the car saw it’s end… It’s built on a sedan chassis and instead of taking advantage of such a chassis in space and overall design… they simply tossed all of that aside and tried to make a sports car out of a sedan… which isn’t always bad… you just simply isolated your car market…. If you take every last thing that made it a 2+2 coupe and give it the interior space of a 2 seater… people will just opt for the vette
Always wanted a newer Camero. Great looking car. I'm with Roman, a crossover would be sacrilege. Definitely don't want electric. Have they don't kill it, or make it as large as the charger.
Of the 3 highest level trim versions (mustang, challenger, and Camaro) the Camaro ZL1 is the only one you can get currently in a Convertible and with a manual.
@RustyPumpkinRanch "of the three cars highest trim levels" means that a mustang Shelby GT500 and a challenger Hellcat/demon do not offer manuals or convertibles. Only the camaro at the highest trim level of ZL1 does. Thus it's the only option available of the 3.
@@NickBrakattack at some point when you reach a certain horsepower you need to limit certain options, Camaro never reached that point and it appears it never will.
I agree with Roman, the Mach-E is not a mustang nor the "new muscle car". Sports cars are just being faded out for this era. Maybe sedans/wagons and sports cars will make a comeback after the generation of car enthusiasts
What people keep forgetting is that the ZL1 is the best track car of the 3 and is equal if not better than a hellcat in a straight line believe it or not, so that lack of power on the ZL1 isn’t really an excuse
The Camaro "crossover" is the Blazer and that came out 1st before the Mach E and the upcoming Blazer EV is the next one, but really what is holding back Camaro from keeping up with the Joneses is the Stingray. GM doesn't want Camaro to step on the Stingray's territory with power and performance whereas Ford and Dodge doesn't have that problem i.e. no Viper and the Ford GT is a supercar.
Has very little to do with the platform. Its about revenue. Gas is more expensive now, the Camaro isn't lightweight and doesn't get good fuel economy. Sales nos. are way down. Its time has passed. Yes, they are fun to drive but not enough. They don't hold a lot of stuff or fit 4 people comfortably like even a sedan, SUV's have a better bird's eye view of traffic, they sit low and are hard to see out of. I worked at Chevy Engineering as a product engineer where the Camaro was designed. I drove all of them back to the beginning. What is perhaps most shocking is that real high horsepower cars like Hellcats and GT500's and C8 Corvettes even exist in this economic climate. People with a hipster vibe will opt for something like a Supra which is a true 2 door sportscar. Chevy could reintroduce the Camaro closer to 3000 lbs and lose 500 lbs and put a straight six in it and make it more a poor man's Corvette and it might sell better. Lose the V8. Something bigger than the Miata but smaller than the current Camaro which is a bit heavy even though it really is a great car.
I think they really dropped the ball with the styling of the sixth gen. It’s on a whole new platform but it only looked like a slight refresh of the previous generation. They also did not address the biggest complaint the terrible outward visibility. It should have had a new different body design. A modern version of the second generation would have been awesome.
My number one complaint about the 6th is the awful visibility, If you can get over that it's actually really a great car, can't go wrong with either the V8 or the V6.
@Mike Williams this is what people don't realize, there isn't a car I have ever had a blind spot in because I adjust my mirrors to NOT see the rear of the car. There is no reason to see the rear of the car, and I've owned over 20 different cars.
itll come back as an 8000 lb electric SUV
Auto market is so depressing nowadays, glad I scooped up the last brand new manual crosstrek before they get rid of the stick :(
That’s the Blazer EV
Yeah, same as Ford mustang. 😂👍
Mustang is still alive though. 😎
Ugh you’re probably right
GM never showed the Camaro love.

@@hondamancl450 Key Word is ..."Gave". And Ford is still "Giving". And agreed it "was" a Great Car...
@@crbourret they did resurrect the maverick nameplate, although I agree with you that this application would’ve been better than a tiny truck
Weird how I'll see ads for the Mustang and the Chargers and Challengers and then see them on the street. I can't recall the last time I've seen an ad for a Camaro.
They do that to justify killing it.
chevy's marketing team is doo doo
its transformers thats the last time you saw an ad
@Carson Allman I'm talking about an actual ad. Dodge took over the Fast and Furious franchise. However, I still see Dodge ads for the Charger and Challenger all the time. Even seen them while watching a NASCAR race and Dodge hasn't been in that series since like 2016.
10:33 exactly! The Mustang Mach e is most definitely a branding exercise. It was originally going to be branded as a Ford escape but some Ford executives deemed there wouldn't be enough interest in that. Hence the Mustang theme.
Totally agree ,,, would have tanked as a Ford Escape ,, Mach E is not a good looking car in my opinion .
A branding exercise that cost them $3 BILLION.
The Mach E was just a name to draw attention...

@@nothingtoseaheardammit Pretty sure Tesla was losing money for years. Takes time and experience to be profitable while making evs.
Preach it brother. EVs were designed, engineered, driven and forced on us by people who think driving is a chore.
Relative. My tesla was more fun than my v6 mustang. Yes v6 but they can make a fun electric car. Eventually.
So well said. I'm 68 and electric vehicles will never be a "muscle car" Sad!!
Tommy's fell off the rocker😂 I'm with pops on this one!
I wish they would have made an El Camino based on this Camaro platform.
That would be HOT!!!
GM was going to bring the Holden Maloo HSV R8 to the US as a Pontiac, in 2010... I wish so much they would have, Unfortunately, Pontiac folded in '09.
CAMARO IS A PONY CAR JUST LIKE THE MUSTANG IT'S NOT A MUSCLE CAR THEY BOTH RACED IN TRANS AM THEY WERE BORN AS TRACK CARS NOT DRAG CARS.
I would be fine if they made a wagon/cross over for a Nomad
They could have done much more with that chassis, but nothing ever materialized.
I hate the way they did the current gen styling
Mike Williams,
I agree 100%!
Couldn’t have said it better, I also started on a 2012 RS too haha!

It's not that, it's that the world climate mafia has infiltrated some of the auto companies. EVs aren't about the environment, they're about control.
Technically the platform has been being used in the Cadilac line up.
If that kid calls that a mustang one more time i will jump off this roof
These companies are digging their own graves.
By canceling cars that don't sell?
@@MercOne they aren't selling because Chevy is pricing themselves out of their market. 50k for a decent Camaro, and 90k for the zl1. No one is paying that. Fun Fact: Holden (GM Australia) designed the fifth-gen 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. Aussie involvement in the Camaro's history!
I think most people will still want muscle car to look like a muscle car not a muscle car crossover.
The second time the Mustang has outlasted the Camaro.
I’m gonna have to agree with pops on this one
Quicker and faster? I've beaten chargers, challengers, and mustangs in my stock LT1 Camaro...
I love the styling of Camaro! I just hated every time I sat inside one at the LA Auto Show. :-(
It's honestly a tad surprising that the Camaro, Mustang and Challenger have barely changed since their retro design and still sell as well as they do.
Chevrolet Express: Hold my beer. I've been around since before smartphones.
I strongly disagree with Tommy there is way more to a muscle car then just horse power . He is describing more of a sports car.
Seems like GM just threw all their resources behind the C8 and let the Camaro die a slow death.
As a Boomer, I have to disagree that a cross over can't be a muscle car. You can't tell me that the SRT Durango with 710hp doesn't have at least the spirit of a muscle car.
Pony cars were not Muscle cars unless they had a Bib Block Engine. They were also Personal Sporty cars, not SUV's/CUV's/Station wagons.
They seem to have confused "muscle car" with "pony car".
Tommy’s right. The name lives on while we try to bury it. Least it’s not what Mitsubishi did.
BUT DO NOT MAKE AN ELECTRIC BLAZER AND CALL IT A CAMARO!
Thanks TFL.
They’ve already ruined the blazer so there’s a certain fear with what GM is going to do with this nameplate. Fingers crossed
No. An SUV will never be as cool as a V8 powered coupe. No matter how much power you give it.
It’ll probably come back as a CamaroCross.
It already exists. It's called the Blazer.
@@thegrandinquisitor8239 what’s wrong with having another suv/crossover in the line up? 😆
Muscle cars are angular sports cars. Crossovers are trash.
Naming the Mach E MAY have been a good idea, calling it a Mustang was NOT.
They’re replacing the Camaro with a new Chevelle.
I have inside sources at GM (family).
Word around the corporate offices is that they’re already working on an all electric Chevelle based on the styling of the 1970 Chevelle SS.

I just have to say the burnout you did in the blue GT500 was PAINFUL to watch. It was utter abuse of that poor car. 40% throttle would have been plenty. I just hate seeing journalists bounce these cars off of the rev limiter.
Love this episode. Mu
scle car= 2 doors, BIG V8 Engine. PERIOD!!!
What would you rather have in your driveway to stare at... 66 GTO or MachE
The MachE of course! You can drive it instead of just look at it.
@@davidmccarthy6061 poor fella
@@dmcharley64 The mach-e if I'm actually driving it on a regular basis. Those 60s cars were extremely unreliable compared to something like the mach-e, obviously less safe, less refined.
I can see the appeal of the experience they offer. But sometimes people just want to go to work or to the store without smelling like gasoline and having to keep triple A on speed dial.
If it's a weekend car, prob a mustang coupe. The 60s mustangs were better looking than the gto, especially in fastback form.
@themidnighttavern6784 obviously you didn't grow up during the 60's... you missed out.
@@dmcharley64 Was born in the best decade, the 90s.
Engine noises on an electric car is like having engine noises on a golf cart or putting a card in your bike spokes
Sure will miss the muscle cars.
The mach E is not a muscle car of the future... It's a crossover with the mustang badge, I agree with Roman and muscle cars never had four doors
Listen to your pops! He knows what time it is. I agree with him.
I’ll tell you the sweet simple reason why the car saw it’s end…
It’s built on a sedan chassis and instead of taking advantage of such a chassis in space and overall design… they simply tossed all of that aside and tried to make a sports car out of a sedan… which isn’t always bad… you just simply isolated your car market….
If you take every last thing that made it a 2+2 coupe and give it the interior space of a 2 seater… people will just opt for the vette
At least Chevy is going to let it die with some dignity... unlike Ford with the Mustang.
The Camaro LT1 has the most horsepower/dollar of any vehicle.
You can order a Challenger as a convertible with a manual.
@RustyPumpkinRanch not a Hellcat
@@NickBrakattack you didn’t say Hellcat.
We also loose another convertible option In the market
Means I’ll keep my 2019 camaro 2SS
I agree with Roman, the Mach-E is not a mustang nor the "new muscle car". Sports cars are just being faded out for this era. Maybe sedans/wagons and sports cars will make a comeback after the generation of car enthusiasts
It’s funny, it’s third in horse power however I still love that body styling over the competitors
So what is Chevy going to put in NASCAR? The Volt?
The Chevrolet Express is the Dodge Challenger of fullsize vans. 😂😂😅😅
So sad to see the EV - Blazermaro
Just saw the Farewell edition for 2024.
My number one complaint about the 6th is the awful visibility, If you can get over that it's actually really a great car, can't go wrong with either the V8 or the V6.
The Chopped top was a compromise that gave it a Mean Look...
@Mike Williams this is what people don't realize, there isn't a car I have ever had a blind spot in because I adjust my mirrors to NOT see the rear of the car. There is no reason to see the rear of the car, and I've owned over 20 different cars.
Dodge going into "muscle EVs" will be seen as the biggest corporate self-own in history.
Roman is right with the definition of a muscle car!
The Mach E is not a mustang!
Mach E is not a Mustang ,,,lol ! Bummer the Camaro is going away ,,,Have owned two in the past , wish I still had one of them .
The jury’s still out?!!That’s pretty cool?!!But your right the mustang ev has NO links to the Mustang (V8)
Once again. Smh. I'm happy to be a Ford fan but it's sad to see the camaro go, again cuz I love American muscle so much.
