The MASTER at work! - Saw him perform this in Johannesburg South Africa! - My privilege and heart's dream - Now, I can die in peace with my wishes true!
I can't believe it! This is the first time I have heard this version. Neil has always been one of my favorites and now here he is singing this song that I love. Since he is singing by himself one can understand every word. Cohen, of course, is the very best but this ranks right up there. I have listened to many singers do this song. Thanks Neil for your gentle version. k.d.lang would be right up there to make the top three.
Thank you, Blaze8674! You are a man after my own heart. No one can hold a candle to Neil Diamond! He still touches something deep within my being when he sings. His soul is written into his songs and is exuded in his voice. What a man! What a song! What a joy!
Few songs make me cry like "Amazing Grace" but when I heard this song "Hallelujah" boy did I cry, because it's part of my living testimonial on God's Grace and His Mercy to Pardon and Forgive. God is so good to me.
Ben Gonzalez that's right Sure would like to hear Noel diamonds soul sing to "Remember " a Harry Nilsson song A young Neil diamond voice would be the best Too old ,worn out, vocal chords to hit the dream notes But would love to hear him try
Like a good wine, it gets better with age, so does Mr. Diamond. I say Mr. with all reverence and respect for the man, truly one of the greatest male singers to come from the U.S.
Everything sounds better when sung by this beautiful singer/songwriter...it was an honour and immense pleasure to listen to Mr Diamond...for the last 45 years...thank you Sir!!
I used to be a purist myself but now as I get older I realize more and more just HOW VERY MANY GREAT ARTISTS are out there. I'm a big Neil Diamond fan, a huge Leonard Cohen fan, a GIGANTIC Jeff Buckley fan, a so so fan of Rufus Wainwright, a so so fan of K.D. Lang and a huh/whatever fan of John Cale but every one of them does a great job on this song in their own way. Kudos have to go to L.C. though first for writing such a beautiful song!
I love love Neil Diamond's songs....grew up on his sings and went to one of his concerts in 1997....the best best concert and time. I was sooooooo blessed to have my mother-n-law take me for my birthday!
Hallelujah ! Mr Neil Diamond Stay Strong Keep The Faith Dream Big ! Sending Prays Of Hallelujah And Thoughts To You Always , I Always Love Ya ! And Big Fan Of You Forever ! Keep The Music Playing ! I Thank You For For Sharing You Soulful Voice Through The Years Big Time We Have it Forever To Listen To For A Life Time Peace And Blessings God Bless You Peace Fan Julie
This for me is the best version that I’ve heard of this song , and I’ve heard quite a few singers. This was from the heart, the Neil Diamond way. The emotions put into this version by him is really moving, yet so soothing, and makes u want to play it over and over again. Beautifully done. Always my favorite singer.
Love hearing this. Neil has been a light unto my wandering path...never tire of hearing him sing and what a beautiful rendition of this phenomenal song! Also appreciate the backdrop of candles...lends a reverence and a beauty to this rendering. Thank You.
Always liked his early stuff best. Somehow he got too "pop" later on. Still when he finds something, he can move you. Hadn;t heard him doing this one -but he flat out nails it. Great version.
My favorite song of all time. kd lang and Neil... both the most excellent versions (after Leonard's of course). Each singer puts that little different feeling to the song. And yes... the candles are perfect here. The lord of song would even agree.
Not many people know how talented he is. He had an entire songbook full of songs written for other artists from 1960 until 1966 when he had his first hit with Solitary Man ( which I think is one of the best constructed songs ever). You may hear various songs by other artists on the radio but not know that they are Diamond compositions. Listen to Neil Diamond Rarities on youtube for a sample.
Gerrit Veldhuisen 5 dagen geleden Neil Diamond was in 1977, four days on Tour in Netherland.there were problems with the Hammond organ (110 Volt America-Europe 220 Volt) I'm approached by Lou van Rees Management for a solution to my Hammond Rent. After four days I got my B3 Hammond returned with Fire spots of Cigarettes. It frustrated me.They have me removed me from the Neil Diamond Fan Club because I had this listed on their site.Never Excuse of Neil Diamond ;-(
@Rm M. Exactly! A couple of those would be ‘Sunflower’ a pretty big hit for Glen Campbell back in the late 70’s and ‘I Seek The Night’ which is sung by Sondra Locke in ‘Every Which Way But Loose’.
I was confused as to why I never REALLY heard all of the words to this song before I listened to this yesterday? I'm delighted and have even a much greater appreciation for the song.
I love "The Story of My Life"..so heartfelt and beautiful...one of this amazing singers best...Have seen him 25 times in concert and each time was wonderful...memories for a lifetime. Thank You Neil.
Neil always does a nice job tmb1969 , where have you been sonny boy for the last 40 plus years??????? Neil gave this song its pure and distinct meaning. Nothing compares to Diamonds understanding and delivery of a message or song. wake up to real music old timer.
Oh man I swear he sounds better now then he did when he was younger and I loved him then too. This renditions ranks right up there at the top of my list of favs.
I can imagine Leonard Cohen thinking 'Thanks dude, you nailed it'. He should sing this in concert as part of a medley together with Lady Magdalene and Yes I will
Tremendous rendition! Love Neil Diamond - seems this is more heartfelt than virtually all other versions. Blaze8674, thank you so much for posting this.!!
Awesome, In the late 60's he performed in Vegas a lot...Then His first concert back he performed at the Greek theater...I've seen him in concert many times...
I've always thought there was something in Neil Diamond's voice that reminded me of Leonard Cohen and vice versa. I think this is wonderful. Thanks for posting.
Richard B. Davis, You are correct and nice to know someone else knows the heritage of this song. That is why it has Old T. references. Leonard Cohen was a Canadian Jew. Neil Diamond is a Jew from New York. It is well worth the time to read the histories of both of these men. Kind of fitting for a Jewish person doing another Jewish person's song.
I have researched the history of Hallelujah, the reasons why Leonard Cohen wrote it the way he did and the various interpretations of the lyrics. This is an amazing piece of work. I still believe the best version is the one by Leonard Cohen in London. I'm so sorry he's gone...
LC admits he is not the singer he wishes. But he is indeed a genius in much of what he has written, especially with Hallalujah and Thousand Kisses Deep! Even though he may 'own' it, he gives an intangible gift to anyone who can play a guitar or piano and who can sing, even a little. What a gift it is, too. Personally, my favorite cover of this song is by Justin Timberlake. Heavenly music, thanks to LC.
I didn't know until today that Neil sang a version of this song. It's a beautiful song and he does it justice!! Wonderful
can u believe Neil can sound this good after all these years... I'm in. Think he nailed it. This is in my top three remakes of this song.
This is the best cover of Hallelujah. No doubt. Neil truly gets it.
Leonard Cohen, Neil Diamond = some of the great Jewish artists of our time.
Now I can really understand the words---and Neil puts SUCH emotion into them, I really FEEL the words.
Cannot find a better songwriter or singer. He is my very favorite. A gift from God.
Thank you Neil.
Shalom Neil from Croke Park Dublin ,from Pauline☘️
Great singer
But that was written by Leonard Cohen
@@Taiyou536 Leonard Cohen could not sing...
@@petervanmuylder3112 True - but he was a great songwriter , too
Neil's song and the candle pics are exactly what is now needed in these difficult covid times. Thanks for sharing 🌞
The MASTER at work! - Saw him perform this in Johannesburg South Africa! - My privilege and heart's dream - Now, I can die in peace with my wishes true!
and the depth of his voice on this song gives me goose bumps...Everyone has their own style...but I love Neils truly one of a kind version.
Avery beautiful song, and Neil is awesome
L. Cohen and Neil, you do justice and solemnity to this melody. Bravissimo

One of the most beautifully sang versions of this song I have heard. Thank you, Lord Jesus......Hallelujah.......Thanks for sharing with us.
I have followed Neil Diamond since I was young. I’m 76 and, IMO, his music has gotten better with age. I love every one of his songs.
There can be no other like neil diamond ! So polished and unique voice.
Neil Diamond is just fantastic!
Few songs make me cry like "Amazing Grace" but when I heard this song "Hallelujah" boy did I cry, because it's part of my living testimonial on God's Grace and His Mercy to Pardon and Forgive. God is so good to me.
Ben Gonzalez that's right
Sure would like to hear Noel diamonds soul sing to "Remember " a Harry Nilsson song
A young Neil diamond voice would be the best
Too old ,worn out, vocal chords to hit the dream notes

Ben Gonzalez I'm sure Leonard Cohan a Jew and an ordained Buddhist Monk would thank you for liking his song even though you are a Christian
Richard Antonovich (
A L.Cohen song sung by Neil....material for a heart attack! A combination that can't be topped
Wonderful version. Neil's deep, unique voice; you can hear the 70 years of a well-lived life. Nice video interpretation too. Thanks for posting.
