Coffee Machine won't build pressure? Easy fix...

- My coffee machine has been losing pressure for a while, now the pressure needle barely rises, I've given it a full clean and descale with no improvement.
Time to pull it apart to see what's going on.
and you fixed it without a coffee. merry Christmas mate
The lack of coffee is the driving motivation
He was motivated! ;)
😅
Marty, what I really enjoy about your stuff is how you approach something. "Huh. Seems to be a wee problem. Let's see if we can solve it." Doesn't matter what it is - coffee maker not working, huge drive chains broken on a grader, 5000 board feet of trees to be milled up, abandoned boat full of holes, malfunctioning homemade power turbines in a stream - no worries, let's just sort out what the issues are and tackle them one at a time in a totally even tempered way. And all the while seeming to enjoy the challenge. I envy you. You make self-reliance seem so easy. Thanks for all you do. Greetings from Washington State in the US.
There is the valuable efforts being put into the "right to repair", somewhat forgotten is the ability to repair - which is the ongoing gift that this channel provides us folk. Merry Christmas and a Healthy Prosperous 2021 you all.
This captures my feelings exactly.
This is spot on. I just found this channel a few weeks ago and can't stop watching it. I love repair of basically anything. I think we throw away too much good stuff away but I've been drawn to this channel for other reasons and you just nailed what I love about it. Marty is just so.....Level about his approach to problems. It's hard not to envy that "ability". I'm all over the place when it comes to stuff breaking down/not working. Some days I'm patient and cool headed, other days I punch walls so hard I have to have my hand in a wrap. I really want to approach life's issues like Marty does. This channel is inspiring in so many ways. Thanks for sharing your life with us mate. Much love from Indiana USA.
And remember this espresso machine is powered by free power from old laundry machines....
This one's down the sounds isn't it? So solar not hydro?
@@pete3897 He's off grid so he generates his own power with modified clothes washing machines off of a stream on his property. It's a pretty interesting setup, here's a video he did showing the system ruclips.net/video/Xb6TIWub6KU/видео.html
@@pete3897 nah check his older videos he used stream water

Does your wife go around slightly breaking things for you to fix, in a effort to keep you busy and not buying another boat?
Haha happy Christmas love from canada 🇨🇦
Lol i am getting sus' that my wife is actually doing this.
I reckon she just wants something that's brand new for once...
or tromping through the woods to find another abandoned piece of heavy machinery.
Fellow Breville user here, pre-loved; also a fixer-upper.
Mine's a simpler Anthony Worrell Thompson model, no grinder or gauge.
Mains switch was broken off inside and the steamer valve was leaking.
Made a switch holder out of curtain rail clamps.
Turned the tap washer around and Bosh, sorted.
I took to just steaming it all in the mug to get it good and frothy.
THEN my mate brought me some bits from an old Dualit espresso coffee machine to see if I could use them.
The holder part didn't fit but the steel filter is exactly the same diameter and fits perfectly in my Breville.
And the 'Crema' this filter produces is superb.
A fine firm foam that stays to the bottom of the cup.
I don't need to use the steam to froth it up any more; that'll be a saving in electricity.
Your channel is one of the most watchable and aesthetically pleasing that I've ever seen, Hats off and a merry christmas from Texas
And there I was, 26th Dec 2020, bored as hell and noticing my oscillating fan was not spinning on speed 1,2 or 3 I started to take it apart and worked out the spinning rod was dry as and needed a lube, putting it all back together then BOOM working, proud as hell for fixing it......... then Marty T posts and smashes another out the park haha.
I had the same thing yesterday, christmas dinner in the oven and the oven not heating right. Turns out it was the shaft on the fan in the back of the oven, a drop of oil and back in action.
The spinning rod?
@@briananthony4044 Yeah dunno the correct name of the part, but the metal bar the motor turns and the fan blades attach too and spin.
I believe the technical term is spinnamathing.
I thought for sure you would change the oil at least.
You can fix anything Marty! Always enjoy your videos mate! 👍🏻👍🏻
Marty > climbs out of bed, repairs the coffee machine (before having coffee), goes out to the yard and gathers spare parts, builds an amphibious hauler, just because... Hope you and the family had a great Christmas, and thanks for each and every video!
This man can fix anything, seriously.
Kiwi genius.
That’s awesome Marty got exactly the same coffee machine with the same issues. My little project for this arvo now. All the best fella 👍😎🥃
Cool mate, hopefully you get it sorted
tell us if it worked
I got the same one, and just realized how easy it would be to tap it straight into a water line with a pressure regulator and maybe a nice inline osmosis filter.
I love fixing these up. Solid little home machines the Breville's, used them for a decade or so till I got my hands on a Vibemme Super for a price I was willing to pay early this year. The amount of people who ruin them just through a lack of basic cleaning! Nice to see yours well cared for.
Oh what a view to drink your coffee. May God bless you and your family
A good spot to enjoy your coffee and the view.
I'm impressed that you got it repaired so quickly and logically. And you didn't even need to check the gap on the distributor points ;-)
Love it! Tractors, boat motors, espresso machines, all the same approach. Myself, I woke up Christmas morning to a dead fridge. Luckily I had ordered a spare inverter as this fridge has a habit of cooking them every two years or so, so after transferring everything out to the garage fridge and freezer, my Christmas morning was spent replacing the inverter, successfully, and then we waited for it to cool down. A day later and we are all back to normal. I was actually thinking about Marty while I was working on the fridge and then I saw his newest video. Awesome!!!!
Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you and your family, Marty, from a fan in the Puget Sound area of Washington State!
You live in Shangri-La brother. Raises my spirits to know you and your family live the way you do.
I absolutely love fixing things that others would just throw away. Such satisfaction. Merry Christmas Marty!
Had a very pleasent one up here in the big City and hope you guys did to living the dream down there in that awesome spot. Hopefully the New Year will be less of a challengefor us all, but were not doing too badly compared to the rest of the world. Take care, and keep posting the videos...just love them..cheers mate.
Great job! Bet it made the wife happier. Merry Christmas to yall
I had this same model for 10 years. Worked great until i wore it out...broke the feed from the pump and not fixable. Bought a new model without the grinder as I use a Rocky Racilio grinder instead. The built in grinder wouldn’t grind the costco beans as they were too oily and plugged up the minuscule chute they designed.
Excellent unit for the money.
Love the view. Enjoy that coffee.
Wow, i have a similar machine from Solis, same comp different brand name, and this exact issue. It subsides with a clean and after putting in fresher beans, but now I definitely will go and check the filter in there! Thanks for putting this online! Also, big fan of treeferns, so you do indeed live in paradise!
What a view Marty T! Stunning for sure
What I like about you is you are not scared to try. I wish I had had a chance to meet you personally or through RUclips before I was too old and decripit.
I have the exact same machine. My pressure isn't low but not as high as yours...I now know the issue and fix. Cheers
Certainly not telling anyone how to make their own coffee, but when I was working in a fairly posh hotel, I was always taught that the "plunger" wasn't to compress the coffee grounds before the water was added, but simply to make the surface even. Always worked for me anyway. As always, great fix mate!
Thats interesting.. the manual on this machine says to apply around 15kg of pressure to the plunger but I'll give your way a try.
@@MartyT Could very well be difference of equipment, I was using an industrial coffee machine worth thousands of pounds. As long as the coffee is good and strong, everyone's a winner :)
I thought for sure you'd have to rebuild the final drive before you'd get that thing out of the woods. :)
Marty, you live in paradise!
The magic touch, happy Christmas
Ah there is nothing like a good cup of coffee in paradise. Merry Christmas and have a happy new year. Great video Marty, thumbs up
👍🌻and what a Beautiful place to drink a good coffe
Nice simple fix and absolutely crucial for a good start of the day. Merry Christmas!
Wow what a view to go with your morning cuppa, I don't drink coffee but a glass of cold coke would suffice 😁
Coffee maker failure is an EMERGENCY. I would drop everything like you did and fix it. I keep a spare machine just in case.
I felt that “damn it” in my soul
I was handling my coffee craving just fine up to the point the spoon hit the honey then I yelled at missus begging for some coffee. I love fresh honey. Merry Christmas, everyone!
Thank you for your service.
Like a new one! I see that in NZ you twisted the wires anticlockwise!!
Beautiful view!
Diagnostic method is magnificent...thanks for a great lesson. All the best for the new year too. Cheers Marty.
What a beautiful view from kitchen. Love it!
Happy Christmas to you and the family. Always a pleasure to watch your videos!
BREVILLE, just like most if not all electrical manufacturers, just takes a few moments of figering out what may be the problem before calling a repairman (person)....or buying a new machine.
Man of all trades!!
All the best for the new year to you and your family Marty.
Keep em coming:)
I was waiting for the bit at the end where you added a turbo for more power. Merry Christmas 🎄.
Yeah, that's it. The soothing sounds of a Kiwi fixing his coffee machine and having a cuppa. Cheers, mate. Happy Holidays.
Nice repair Marty. Most people would have just binned it. 🇬🇧
Merry Christmas 🎄..... million dollar view at the end. 👍🏼
A bloke that can use a wrench and a coffee machine, that must be a rare breed. Merry Christmas!
If you are a mechanic and have a problem...reach for a bigger hammer. if you are an electrician and have a problem...have another coffee...
A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family. I am glad you got your morning coffee...
It would have been sad to default to tea.
Way to go Marty never go without the espresso on a holiday you were a hero today ha ha
Gotta have that morning coffee mate
Is there anything you won’t fix and post videos of?
First I saw the culvert repair/replacement, very nice.
Then abandoned excavator restoration, super cool.
Then loads of old tractors getting fixed up, awesome.
Then patching up a fiberglass boat, hell yeah.
And now fixing an espresso machine. You’re awesome, thanks for inspiring me to try fixing more things around the house. Peace out from California.
Love the way the problem is tackled the very same way as if there was an issue with the loader in the John Deere! 😁
Can’t believe my lucky day... it must be Christmas! MartyT fixing the exact same espresso machine that I have!!😃🙌
That coffee machine didn't stand a chance!
Your backyard is what some would call "paradise".
Merry Christmas to you and yours mate!
Cheers Marty & Co. have a happy new year - from the free world 🇬🇧
You live in paradise sir.
Sucks when you can't get a decent cup of coffee at home. Marty to the rescue! Thanks for the positive video this holiday season. I hope that you and the family are well.
"Oh, yeah, here we go." A very reasonable thing to say when coffee is being made. Happy Boxing Day.
This little fix video was a great addition to the channel.
Cool thanks! Our coffee machine did exactly the same first week into lockdown last year and has been on the bench collecting dust ever since! And today did what you showed and hey presto she's working again thanks!
wow!!! a wonderful world! Louis Armstrong! whit a good coffee!
I have the same machine, I now know about 500% more about it than I did 6:27 ago, Merry Christmas from Christchurch Marty
Express Espresso Fix! Keep them coming.
Ha ha ha really enjoyed that ! Of all things, a coffee machine to fix instead of a huge mechanical machine!
Hey Marty, thanks for another year of Kiwi goodness and ingenuity. Especially since Travekling to NZ was impossible. You and your family, stay healthy. And have a Happy New Year!
Love the touch of honey :) I noticed the video frame rate capturing the LED frequency pulse around the dials..
You deserve a coffee now!
that view is amazing. I can't imagine my home being there.
I love every one of your videos Marty! 👍🏻👍🏻
6:08 Omg that view.. I'm so jealous!
Priceless!
I could never have waited that long to have a go at fixing it...... coffee withdrawal is not good anytime but especially Christmas :)
Merry Christmas Marty. Thanks for the awesome videos you have been posting this year, been a tough year here in the uk and seeing you keeping positive through all this has helped no end. Let's hope 2021 is a better year for all.
Years ago I picked up an old wringer washer out on the sidewalk for the garbage pickup. Took it home around the corner, tipped it on it's side , unscrewed the plastic water pump, took out a kid's sock and used the washer for 10 years !!
All the best, mate.
Enjoy your coffee, good kind sir.
My favorite t shirt. Merry Christmas from Virginia, USA 🇺🇸
Happy belated Boxing Day Marty! Always look forward to your next vid, THANKS for sharing, lots of fun to watch and learn.
Nice fix! People around here would toss it out and buy a new one. (I never understood that.) Oh....What a view! A true piece of heaven on earth.
No cheap machine either, I salute you sir.
I wonder how many of these got chucked because of this simple 10 minute fix with kitchen drawer tools...... And I bet that Coffee tasted even better with some sweat equity.
I hope your Christmas was awesome, My Boxing day is a balmy 22 and sunny with a light breeze.
lovely!
Nice, its pouring down, thunder and lightening here
I look forward to all new adventures of Marty T.
Hope you and your family had a great Christmas also!
All the best for next year, Marty, mate. Looking forward to better times.
With enough coffee you can fix anything, well done Sir! All the best in 2021 and we will all be watching what you fix next.
Another nicely done fix! Happy new years Marty!
Merry Christmas, from Sweden.
Awesome View!!!❤
Really, I just want to see those fern trees outside the window. What a backdrop.
They're called Ponga, and these videos are a great way for me to start feeling really homesick
Thanks for the tip, got same machine, same issue
And another brilliant job done sir you are an education to us all
Thanks Marty, we did have a good Xmas, but eldest son was stuck in Sydney, bummer. Hope you had a good one too, Cheers
Awesome video, as usual. Personally, I would love it if you could explain your thinking a bit more. Like, how do you know there's be a filter mesh in that part?
Use a cable tie as a hose clamp ,Marty. I service laboratory analysers , the manufacturers routinely use cable ties for hose clamps. To get a tight seal around the tubing, grip the tail of the tie with pliers and push against the ratchet buckle with a small crescent ,closed so the the tail can just slip through the jaws. You can get the last click out of the ratchet that way.
I converted a steam pressurised Breville espresso maker by putting a cooler (95℃) thermostat in it and putting an compressed air fitting on the back of it that connected to a compressor from a piece of lab equipment. It works great ,I can fine tune the process by adjusting the air pressure.
Cool mate, I'll pick one up next time in town, I just had to improvise to get my morning coffee ;)
Gotta have the coffee machine in top shape for sure! Merry Christmas 🎅
The man of many talents 🤩 Merry Christmas Marty. Cheers
Merry Christmas. With your ability to fix things I think you should give a go at Covid and world peace. Thanks for sharing.
Job well done Marty! That's a quite few bucks saved!
Lovely view 👌
Was expecting your coffee machine to be made out of cast iron and steel tubing. Good to have that first cup, anyway. Your woods look very nice in the morning light, We hit the chicken sheds this morning at 0° F. (-17°C) so enjoy.
