Rene has no idea how GRANTS work. They are applied for by the researcher for their project. The Feds aren't "handing out cash." The funds are issued by an organization that adjudicates the projects and then issues funds, The researchers are to provide full reporting of its use. I am so over this anti-intellectual nonsense.

Danielle Smith and the UCP have done absolutely nothing good, or right for Alberta. Getting Dani Dollars bribe money doesn't count. All the UCP have done is carry on with the fiscal ineptitude and poor planning that the Alberta PCs did, ever since Don Getty was premier of Alberta. So far, the UCP have made well over $80 billion in very costly debacles and mistakes, and the UCP have also given Alberta a mammoth debt that is now nearly $140 billion. In addition, the UCP have treated the vulnerable, seniors, medical professionals, teachers, students, rural property owners, the environment and democracy in Alberta with disdain.
To Renee, i did look it up, constitutionally, and Ottawa is allowed to give monies and bypass the provinces,as long as those monies are given as coming from the federal govt. Renee, you and DS aren't right here. Oh, and yes, housing and such are provincal jurisdictions to a certain point, but when the province isn't taking care of them, as DS isn't, then who does that leave to step in.

@@7thpilot Being 'responsible' for regulating post secondary doesn't mean the feds can't fund it. They ALWAYS have. And its even more complex now because many of the researchers at university are often not even part of the university and are privately funded, often through corporpations, but also through federal funding. In the sciences MOST funding for research is through the federal government, the provinces provide pretty much zero.
So this is a case of people waking up to something thats always been the case.
The delelination of powers is one of the few 'checks and balances' we have, unlike the US which has them all over. The idea that Smith should have near dictatorial powers is one that no albertan has weighed in on.

This aligns with the UN Declaration of Human Rights which states that housing is a human RIGHT.
THe PROBLEM is of coures passing a law doesn't mean much til the Supreme Court rules on it, the problem with THAT is that the Supreme COurt REFUSES to rule on any housing issues because by definition if housing is a human right, then ANY person who is homeless could sue the government into a house.
But you have to not know ANYTHING about government financing if you don't know that they have ALWAYS involved three levels of government.
In fact whats hilarious about this is that Pollievre has gone even FURTHER and said not only will he control funding to municipalties, but he is going to use that funding mechanism to OUTRIGHTLY DIRECT POLICY in order to get rid of what he calls 'red tape'. He's never actually clear on what the tape is, since its been found that there are developments sitting idle but with full registration.
But interestingly enough, this is a case where Pollievre and Smith are totally at odds, likely the only case I can think of.

The entire policy of all governments in Canada is wholly socialist. We don't have a right wing alternative (small government, low taxation, individual liberty, individual self-reliance, pro entrepreneurialism). If a government will spend 30 to 40 billion on health care for less than 5 million people, that is not a right wing government. A fascist government would have squads of black SUVs running around rounding up all those who have for so long pilfered our wealth and stolen from our treasury. CPC is nowhere near fascist.
