    The 7-1 is in reference to the 8 men on the bench. It is usually divided between the bigger frontline players (5) and the smaller backline player(3). As the Springboks are more dominant with their defense, they have usually used a 6-2 bench. By splitting the bench 7-1, they are essentially bringing a whole new (fresh legs) of frontline players. Hence, the Bomb (Nuke) Squad

  • @_Justin_Case

    7 (big guys) -1(smaller size) split is the bench. Most teams go for a 5-3 split.
    7-1 split means SA can bring 7, fresh, big guys to scrum and just dominate their opponents at scrums, but you'd need a utility player to pull it off, someone who'd cover several positions should you get an injury. Kwagga Smith is the utility player in this case. The Swiss knife, basically.

    7-1 split is...7 forwards (i.e the big fellas) and 1 backline player. The only reason why coaches and World Rugby is making a fuss is coz no one else thought of it before Rassie. Hence the name Nuke Squad.

    7:1 bench split refers to the number of forwards (big guys involved in power plays) vs backs (more creative players on the bench (substitutes).
    Typically, the split is 5:3. In 2019 SA introduced the 6:2, now they’ve taken it 1 further to 7:1. It means you can bring in 7 new big guys in the second half to scrum and maul a tired opposition. There’s an element of risk because if your backs get injured you’re in trouble because you only have 1 replacement on the bench.

    South African here, I like the tug-o-war reference, the total weight of the pack (players 1 to 8) does give you an advantage, the Springboks doesn't have the heaviest packs but their technique is what makes their scrums so strong.

    7-1 Split is completely legal and in the rules of the game. The only reason that guy was complaining is because South Africa have so much depth in their team they can do it. What is the 7-1 split, well each team has 8 substitues usually teams have 5 forwards and 3 backs as subs. However, South Africa decided to be innovative and take 7 subs as forwards and 1 sub as a back player. What this means? Well, it means they dominate the scrum for the 1st half, then when the other team is very tired they bring on their 7 forward subs to dominate even more, usually they sub in the 2nd half. Any team can do a 7-1 split but they choose not to because either they don't have the players in their team or it can be risky if 2 backs get injured and you don't have enough backs substitues. But South Africa are brilliant they have players that can cover all their positions even if 2 backs get injuryed. They first used the 7-1 split against New Zealand and beat them 35-7, now they are trying it again tonight against Ireland. Lets Go Bokke!

    Scrums are a set play , but when it happens in open play they are called "Mauls" or a "Ruck" . In a Scrum both sides set up with equal numbers in the pack, and then the ref signals for the ball to be put in, but a Maul happens in open play when the ball is off the ground, if the ball is on the ground in open play its called a "Ruck". These are the 3 scenarios where you get groups of people pushing (and scrapping) against each other

    Rugby is about fckn up the other team. So the 7-1 split allows you to replace your 7 biggest players with another 7 just as huge players to smash into there opponents. The springboks do this because they have the talent in there A and B team to do so, their second team is just as skilled as their 1st I cant wait for tonight to see the 7-1 split in action.

    The scrum - the big boys they are the engine so the whole team revolve around them.
    If you dominate the set piece, like scrums ,line-outs, loose scrums you have the edge - so in order to bring up 7 guys to take over will give them the edge over any team, the world don't like this because south africa is only team that can do this.
    So the bench is used for injuries and technical changes, so the coaching staff used this for basically new engine 2nd half.
    It's genius.
    To have fresh legs in the forwards is amazing.
    So if you have utility specialists in your backline you can do this.
    Like Damian willimse he can play fly halve, center and wing and full back, cheslin Colby plays wing, scrumhalve and he can go for fly halve,
    So you only need one backline player on the bench for emergency this is why this nuke squad is so powerful.

    Now that you've heard about the 7=1 or 5-3 split I'll tell you about a different kind of split. It's not the split on the bench. It's one you can see during play.
    There is the 3-2-2-1, the 1-3-3-1 and a couple other variations on the theme all totaling up to 8.
    This time it's the 8 Forwards not the bench. The big guys and how you spread them across the pitch during play. You can see it quite often as the ball comes out of the Ruck. There's usually 3 really big guys standing over there in front of the #10. They are there to take the pass and bruise a few bodies, concentrate defenders and when the ball goes to the #10 they obstruct vision of what the #10 is doing and to exist (not block) in the spaces defenders want to run through.
    That's something you can see.
    Basically Backs should run in their lanes and the pods of Forwards spread across the pitch to support them. Here's a video on it

    7-1 split allows South Africa to win more scrums. The more scrums you win the more penalties you’ll get. That means South Africa has opportunities to run up the score because Springboks are heavily dependent on kicking, it’s our game plan. Great defense and great kicking.

    Gentlemen, the game (in rugby) is won or lost by the forwards. To have a 7-1 forward to back split means Springbok’s can replace virtually their entire forward pack with equally destructive players from the bench. This gave the Springboks a huge advantage.

  • @rachelletobias7402
    @rachelletobias7402 11 месяцев назад +1

    The scrums and lineout are "set pieces" that start off every phase and are performed by the forward pack of 1-8. The big men tire, become weaker, then there are usually 5 reaplacement forwards 16-210 (or other 5 numbers up to 23 as there are 8 replacements allowed, with 3 usually being backs). So what South Africa did is use players that can play many positions in case of injury, so that they can then have only 1 back replacement and 7 forwards. That means that South Africa has almost an entire fresh Pack of forwards coming on against the opposition big tired men. They are not only strong, they are SMART!!

    A scrum is traditionally formed as a means of restarting play after stoppage due to a minor infringement. South Africa is the only team that capitalizes on scrums to win penalties which gives them the chance to convert points on the board. No other team uses scrums as a tactical manouver, no other team has the dominance to be able to do so.

    They get 8 replacements that can come on to replace 8 others already on the field. So 7 of these players are forwards, the guys in the scrum. The other1 player is a replacement for the rest of the backline players. That is the 7-1 split. So if more than one of the backline players get injured they only have one player to replace that player with. Risky decision but it seems to work😁🇿🇦

      You didn't throw 11 away, your only try (which shouldn't have been allowed) came from a missed penalty and an obstruction. In reality you missed out on 8 points. Ireland could have scored another 9 points if they decided to take some very kickable opportunities but instead went for horrendous lineouts. Best case scenario for both teams Ireland win 22-16. Good game but don't think you got the best of Ireland either. Hope to see you in the final for a rematch.

    It was said in the comments, the 7/1 split is off the field. We just have boddies to throw at the game. We have 7 big boddies to throw at the scrum, a mall, a ruck, and a line out. That is the plan, we have 1 reserve back, and we gambling with that play but look at our scrums.

  • @KarlRichardMartinDavids
    @KarlRichardMartinDavids 11 месяцев назад +1

    There are two types of positional players on the field, the hard working/ stronger/ heavier forward pack of 8. Their job is to secure the ball from set and general play,for the faster more agile finishers (steppers ) of seven. The Springboks are normally gifted, with forwards. Currently the Springboks have two sets of equally strong packs of forward. The law allows for 8 reserve players on the bench, for injuries or tactical purposes. They can be brought up any time of the game. The usual conventional split is 5/3. During the 2019 world cup because of the way we play the couch came up with the 6/2 split. This meant that 6 fresh forwards can come on to the field to replace the tiring forward. This is risky when more than 2 backline players are injured. However the Springboks are currently so versatile that some of the forwards can be used to fulfill this role. The haters of Springboks rugby are crying like babies because the Boks have introduced a 7/1 split, even calling it immoral, when the Boks are not breaking any rules. All have the same rules and can use it according to their game plan. Even more scary are the dept of our back that the likes of Kolbe, Mpimpi and Moodie can be left out of the starting 23 squad.This is one of the reasons Boks are the most feared rugby team on the planet.Hope it gives you guys some insight. Peace go bokke

  • @lightningRatPack
    @lightningRatPack 11 месяцев назад +1

    To understand what an advantage it is and a risk is like this. A front-line player would burn like 50% of their energy for the first half and 50% for the second half. doing the 7-1 split can allow the players to burn 100% of their energy for the first half then get traded and the next guy can burn 100% of their energy.
    Its really hard to control a team that is happily fighting full tilt on all rucks, mauls. and scrums. The other team will burn to much energy just trying to fight rucks, mauls and scrums. There is a large chance for more turn overs in favour for the South Africa.
    The down sides are injuries. That will start to add up as the world up goes on and you might have to put someone back on the field that is out of gas and has already cooled down. Which could lead to more injuries.

    It’s really telling that Ireland’s scrum held up against the nuke squad even before Ireland replaced their front row. Great game, but Ireland was a cut above, and they have more left in the tank.

    Here is some text as quoted by great men surrounding the south African Afrikaners or BOERS
    "Give me 20 divisions American soldiers and I will breach Europe. Give me 15 consisting of Englishmen, and I will advance to the borders of Berlin. Give me two divisions of those marvellous fighting Boers (Meaning Farmer, originating from the Boer War) and I will remove Germany from the face of the earth." Field Marshal Bernard L. Montgomery, Commander of the Allled forces during WWII.
    "The Americans fight for a free world, the English mostly for honour and glory and medals, the French and Canadians decide too late that they have to participate. The Italians are too scared to fight; the Russians have no choice. The Germans for the Fatherland. The Boers? Those sons of bitches fight for the hell of it." American General, George "Guts and Glory" Patton
    "Take a community of Dutchmen of the type of those who defended themselves for fifty years against all the power of Spain at a time when Spain was the greatest power in the world. Intermix with them a strain of those inflexible French Huguenots, who gave up their name and left their country forever at the time of the revocation of the Edict of Nantes. The product must obviously be one of the most rugged, virile, unconquerable races ever seen upon the face of the earth. Take these formidable people and train them for seven generations in constant warfare against savage men and ferocious beasts, in circumstances in which no weakling could survive; place them so that they acquire skill with weapons and in horsemanship, give them a country which is eminently suited to the tactics of the huntsman, the marksman and the rider. Then, finally, put a fine temper upon their military qualities by a dour fatalistic Old Testament religion and an ardent and consuming patriotism. Combine all these qualities and all these impulses in one individual and you have the modern Boer." Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
    Add Zulu/Xhosa warriors, Khoisan/Macassar hunters and you have the world champion Springboks.😁

    Pack is like the Blockers in NFL, the BIG mofo's, so SA are rotating their entire "Pack" during the game, so they are trying (and succeeding) to dominate the Pack element of Rugby. The Idea being dominate that part of the game and then you control the possesion more

    The rugby world cup 2023 is happening right now. A week ago Fiji played Australia. You should at least watch that game. Fiji beat Australia. The last time Fiji beat Australia was 54 yrs ago. Both teams have a big chance of reaching the quarterfinals with one loss each and Fiji would have been eliminated if they lost that game.

    So the dude the was in your beginning clip is a jealous idiot because we were the 1st team to due the 6-2 split 2019 world cup and now we are the 1st team to do 7-1 split. It started with the NZL game at Twickenham when Willie le roux took himself out due to a niggle and didn't want to risk a injury. The beauty of the 7-1 split is Kwagga Smit that play nr 8 is a 7's Springbok player and can fill in on the backing should need be. 7-1 split is basically the whole scrum part from 1 which will normally be a flanker and the 1 will be a back line player. Coaches around the world started to copy what we did in 2019 and sour old man in beginning are now saying schools will follow suit which is risky
