"There is darkness in the world. And I think overcoming that darkness, both external and internal darkness, is something beautiful. It's a challenge, but it's beautiful if you can do it, if you can triumph over it. So that's a theme that is definitely in 'Black Parade,' the song, and it's in my work."
"That song, like many things from My Chem, was really a collaborative experience. We were together in this haunted house, slowly getting depressed and isolating ourselves from the outside world; I don't remember us leaving this house [the Paramour Mansion]."
"It turned into a dark place, and the fact that we were there and improvised this idea together, and played it together, and got the original bones of the song, was truly a collaboration," Gerard Way concludes.
