    I tried this on the GM670 and it works for that camera too! I wish I remembered which way the patch moves when turning the screw clockwise or counterclockwise, but I forgot. I do know it only takes very minor adjustments to align it properly. In my case the screw was glued down to keep it in place. If that’s the case then use a knife and tweezers to remove the glue.

    Thank you for this video. My GW690II had some haze in the viewfinder. I used your instructions to remove the top plate and clean all of the easy to get to glass surfaces. Only difference was the wires connecting the camera to the hot shoe as I lifted the top plate. Made it a little difficult as I couldn’t lift the top plate very far from the body, but it worked. Maybe try a piece of rubber. I have a set of rubber cups that make removing things like that super easy. I’ve also used a jar opener. It’s a thin piece of grippy material that really helps.

      Tinkerbell Can’t remember where I found this info but the easiest way to do it would be to set your focus to infinity and point your camera at something far away. Then adjust the screws as needed. Or you can choose a shorter length on your focus ring and with a tape measure and tripod adjust your rangefinder as needed. I hope that makes sense.

    Hej Dave, many thanks for this video. The front glas cleaning of my GW670 II was a full success. The reason I tried to open up the camera was a rattling noise. It is a small metallic part, that went loose. Rectangular in shape (side length 5-6mm), with a stamped, extruding hole in the middle. Your video shows it is somehow attached to one of the prism lenses with the hole in the middle. Is it glued to the lens? Is it necessary? what does it do at all? Any ideas are very much appreciated. :)

      Probably not much help 1 year later, but to anyone else reading about this issue, I had the same problem with a gw680iii. Referencing the repair manual for the gw690iii or ii which can be easily found online, it is part ref no. 5-8 which is labeled "Aperture barrel" I'm pretty sure this prevents stray light from the rangefinder chamber from interfering with your view in the viewfinder. With it removed, the part was rattling and moving around blocking portions of the framelines where it lay. The rangefinder dot was also splitting into two dots which would become hard to focus in strong backlight. It appears to be glued directly to the front of the lens you mention with the oval-ish front hole in a horizontal orientation and the long side of the tube laying inward to the lens (based on the old glue stains, the repair manual is not detailed enough to show the part clearly). I just attached it back to the front of the lens it came from using tweezers with some (very little) loctite glue applied with the tip of a toothpick. My application may not have been perfect, but the view of the now singular rangefinder dot is much improved and easier to see in backlit situations. And thanks for this video Dave, an immense help in giving me the confidence to repair the issue myself on a pretty expensive camera I was scared to brick.

    8:05 If your tiny spring goes sprong and you can't find it, even after dragging a giant magnet across the floor, then you're going to have to make a new one. To make a new spring, you need jewelry pliers, a pair of magnifying glasses, and .2mm stainless spring wire. It's a fidgety job but it can be done. The size is .2mm not .4mm...

You showed where the screws were and which one was horizontal and/or vertical, but as per the title, I was hoping to see the actual adjustment process . Any chance you might be able to make a video for that? Again, rest of the info was top notch. Cheers

    • @DaveMontejano
      @DaveMontejano  3 года назад

      I really should have added some more on this in the original video. The easiest way to do this is to find something really far away and focus to infinity. I find palm trees are best here in Los Angeles since they have easy vertical lines and the top makes horizontal line easy. Once you have your far away thing and are at infinity its all a matter of seeing how off it is and slowly adjust screws as needed. With top off you just do tiny adjustments as you go. I'm sure there is a more official repair shop way of doing this, but for the at home do it yourselfer like me its always worked out. I hope this gives you some better idea of how to adjust your rangefinder. Thanks for stopping by.

    Just ordered my GW690II. How would I know, if my range finder is off? Are the pics simply out of focus? And how would I know in which direction to turn the screws? Also, as the II has a hot shoe, do you know if the procedure in general is the same?

    • @DaveMontejano
      @DaveMontejano  3 года назад +1

      Punkfurt best way to check if your rangefinder is off is to pick something really far away and focus to infinity. The you can see how the images line up. Or for something closer you need to set a distance on your lens then measure an object the same distance away from your camera. As for adjusting I forget which way is which but I would just do tiny turns and see if the misalignment is getting better or worse. I’m not sure how the hot shoe will work on the II. But maybe you don’t need to remove the top plate to adjust the rangefinder. Or adjust at all.

    • @Dikkker
      @Dikkker 3 года назад

      @@DaveMontejano Hmm … I thought, the misalignment happens between the rangefinder and the actual lens, in a way that the viewfinder shows a sharp image, but the photo isn't really in focus. If it's just off the scale, I don't mind too much …

    • @DaveMontejano
      @DaveMontejano  3 года назад +2

      Punkfurt if the viewfinder is showing perfect alignment, and we can rule out camera shake, and the resulting picture is blurry then the rangefinder is not properly calibrated. That’s why checking at infinity is usually the easiest and quickest way to check. If it’s off at infinity it will very likely be off at other distances.

    You left out so many steps and much needed advise. You loosen the slotted screw before turning the cross screw. Then you check close focus. Yes, your GW690 rangefinder can be perfect at infinity and off at 1 meter or vice versa after any adjustments are done. Lens must be adjusted for 1 meter focus. You do that on the other end of the rangefinder, then you must check your infinity again. Sometimes you have to go back and forth a few times. If you or anyone gets offended by my comment, that's ok with me. At lest you read it and now you know.

    Thank you so much for this video. It helped me safely open and close the camera. My issue was that my frame was not moving with the adjustment of focus. If anyone else has that issue then open the camera up and the spring that he points to in this video is moving via the interlock lever. The interlock lever is the issue. I could see the spring just moving one way only when I manually changed the frame with my fingers. In this Manual learncamerarepair.com/downloads/pdf/Fuji-690II-Service.pdf you can have a better understanding. Basically on page 5 it tells you to just bend the interlock lever head. It took me a while to figure out exactly what I was looking for but it is also in the diagram on page 43 in section 5-47. I pretty much just bent it so slightly, nearly poked it a few times and it fell into place. You can also take a look at it from behind the camera and see these screws that are suppose to move with the lever. Good luck!

      Hi, i have a similar problem . When i focus with the camera, the framelines start to move but suddenly they drop at around 2m. • @2croach
      @2croach Год назад

      @@MrTamix74 Hey, it does sound pretty similar to my issue. When I would move the frame manually to 1 meter I was then able to focus via the lens back to infinity. So sounds like it is the interlock lever to me. Dismounting, my guess at least, is the best option to figure out whats going on.
