Gotta also remember that those PFF stats include Olu at RT where he never played before. His time at LT was excellent, wish PFF had grades for specific allignments instead of overall.
JD was much better at finding UDFA than mid round talent. You really need to wait at least 3 seasons to judge a draft class. For example, JD's first draft was an unmitigated disaster.
@gitmobob6266 the grades can change as time goes on, of course. This is just based off of what we’ve seen this season. Hence why a bunch of guys have incomplete grades, we didn’t see enough. I only truly graded guys I was able to get a fair determination on.
Seeing these debates, I think Joe D was above average when it came to drafting, but failed at roster construction, and where to lay the blame gets murky when considering all the people in the org who had equal say. I still think Zach Wilson has a pretty high upside, just like I thought Darnold did. Becton has played great in Philly because of things like coaching, playing surface, and utilization. Then there are moves that just seem like they aren’t Douglas-directed moves. Reddick is the obvious one, but Kinlaw also felt like a coaches’ wish list guy. Tomlinson was another. Lafleur out/ Hackett in feels like it came from elsewhere. Just because all these moves don’t really reflect this philosophies he preached and seemed to stand by for the majority of his decisions. Between HC-GM-Owner, I think Joe D was the best of the three in this era.
@@TheMockDraftGuyconsidering what their roster and draft boards looked like for the 10 years before he was there, it’s not nothing. I’m not saying he was great, but again, above average. I’ll take his drafts over guys like Ballard or Owesi, even if they’ve found a way despite their lackluster drafts. And while he shouldn’t live off the 22 class, he got the best CB, best WR, best RB, and arguably the best DE. His firing was justified, but not because of his draft history.
I’m grading the Rookie season, not the Pick. Also, JD was not a very good GM. He wasn’t as bad as people make him out to be, but he was very underwhelming, especially when it came to Free Agency.
Breece Hall will not bring anything near a haul. Especially with the great backs coming out of college this year. I think Olu needs to move inside. He gets killed with speed and his foot work/speed are questionable. Their whole line is unathletic except Tippmann IMO.
They could definitely get an early Day 2 pick back for Breece, and maybe a 5th or a 6th. I’d consider that a haul for an RB with his ceiling. I think Olu did, and will get better as time goes on. OT is the hardest position to transition to from CFB to the NFL, maybe besides QB.
@@TheMockDraftGuy ROFLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🤪🤪🤪🤪knee injury history, last year of contract, lack of consistency, can't block. 6th rounder at best.
@@TheMockDraftGuy Jet fans over-rate their 'star' players and give up too early on others. 4 teams signed better backs and it costed them nothing but cap space. At least 10 RBs out of college will be more highly coveted. I'm not saying he sucks but 1 year of Hall is not worth 4 years of a decent starter.
I’m not Overrating him. When actually given the ball a decent amount of times, he’s one of the most productive all around backs in the NFL. 1,359 total yards from a player that never had more than 20 rushing attempts in a game this past season, and 5 games with less than 10 total touches. He was also 4th in total yards last year with a terrible O-line and coming off of a major injury.
Didn’t know I would have to explain this but, the Rookie Report Card Grade is based off of the SEASON the rookie had, not the overall selection…

I’m in agreement with you on that. That’s also why I said I could take it or leave it when it comes to PFF grades.
Great ep MDG
Thank you so much! 🙏

These are grades for their Rookie season(s).
@@TheMockDraftGuy I understand, but I don't think it's fair to judge players because of an incompetent coaching staff.

That’s not saying much.

No no. Not grading after 1 year. And again the coaching failed the players. Douglas was a very good gm.
