This level was easier than aquifier, however, I get the feeling hard mode begs to differ.

One detail I noticed in the game which I love is the further down you go the less retro the music gets
Hard Mode Aquifer is basically a Gemhigh/Gemsick-less speed run.
Hard Mode Limbo is also basically the final phase of Normal Boss in the Limbo section, except *all* of your friends are there.
i feel like this song completely redefines the mood of Limbo.
a place with no floor where you are constantly moving would seem like a very chaotic and stressful experience, but the song makes it seem almost relaxing.
Physical and emotional limbo... perfection.
This track is incredible, haunting, earwormy, this could pass as an early flying lotus cut

Have you ever heard Disasterpeace? if not, i recommend Hyper Light Drifter OST specially, but also take a look at FEZ OST. It has some good distortion effects, specially "Vignette" songs of Hyper Light Drifter.

What genre is this? I want to find more music like this.
I couldn't find a genre per say, but I could think of a few games OSTs that might have tracks similar to this style. Someone already mentioned Hyper Light Drifter, and I think a majority of the OST is pretty corrupted/distorted, but in a good way. Other than that, there's a few other specific tracks that fit this niche in games.
I suggest you do your research, or wait for someone that can think of a better specific genre that this would fit in. I wouldn't be lazy and just call it "video game music" because that's kinda like saying any song that has a trumpet is automatically Jazz.
You'd probably be into Boards of Canada and OSTs by Disasterpeace (Hyper Light Drifter and FEZ). I'd also check out Autechre, the albums Quaristice and Oversteps would be a good place to start.
I think it's IDM.

This sound is old school IDM, from way back when they made it in trackers. The composer was trying to mimic Ilkae's style. Ilkae's arrangement versions even can be found on the game's OST.
