Sir I was stuck for a long time and i was manually maneuvering the 737-800 and it wasn't pretty. But this video... It's an absolute lifesaver Thank You!
7 yr old video that i just stumbled on. I have been playing FS9 since 2004 and i knew how to program the gps but i never knew the autopilot would follow it. I mainly fly VFR but i am getting ready to go flight school so i am trying to fly actual arrivals. Like the real world pilot said this is a 5* video. Straight to the point. No lame ass music or going off and talking about stuff that does not pertain to the video. I definitely have to go watch his other videos on the GPS. I know this is this is FSX but the GPS on FS9 and X are virtually identical.
Haven't completed an entire flight in around 4 years, you have helped familiarize me with simulator. I used this tutorial in flight and landed ILS approach perfectly using my new mcp pro and saitek radios first time.
Although for some reason, when I activate my approach for final, or approach in general, the aircraft doesn't seem to bank to that path, it just keeps flying to the center of the airport. Am I missing something?
Thank you so much for this extremely helpful and clear guide! Can this method somehow be integrated into an IFR flight plan? I have landed, am now sitting at the gate, have just chosen the next destination via GPS as per the first half of your video, but now I want IFR to guide me there (altitude, heading, ATC centres, etc.), rather than relying manually on GPS. Is there is way to integrate this or is the Flight Planner function the only way (which then auto-loads the GPS anyway)? Thanks a lot!
Thanks so much for this, I was able to fly a 737 from Gatwick to Heathrow and actually land a the plane rather than crashing. I might try to sort out autopilot and try longer flights
I'm using FSX:SE but no runways show up when I try to set up an approach, even for a big airport like Brisbane International YBBN. What am I doing wrong, or is something missing or not set up?

I don't understand what I did wrong... like 15 minutes out I checked the heading of the runway and the ILS frequency and loaded those numbers into my Course dial (in auto pilot box, the knob all the way to the left with orange cross lit up on it) and the Nav 1 frequency COM (and yes it was active). Boeing 737-800, if anybody cares. I don't know why everyone makes Approach Hold sound like it automatically lines you up with the runway of whatever Airport you have selected in your flight plan and all you have to do is just manually set it down at the end. Because that is NOT what happens..
with me (and again i use fs9 but the garmin is virtually the same on both) i notice the same thing so i start the turn a tad early and then let the airplane catch up.
Anyone know if there is a way to manage the descent using GPS? I'm thinking more for runways without ILS where there is no glideslope to follow? Hi Jack, thanks for the video. I went to London Heathrow on the GPS and nearest airport was still showing as London Heathrow.?? Any idea why this is? Thank you.
I learn this: before starting the flight go to your flight plan and plan everything (where to land, where to start) then you don't have to do it on the gps because once you start you open the gps you can see your flight plan.
Cheers Jack, I was looking for a good explanation of Garmin GPS, and I found it here. My only issue was the CRSR PUSH button on the GS 1000, as found onboard the Beech Baron 58; it is super fiddly to operate with my mouse cursor. I got there in the end after about 3hrs!!!!!! Your videos are amazing man, but I have a little problem, I don't know the airport code wich I'll be taking-off it, so I can't program the GPS, also I have a question, what's the diffirence between this and the fms thing?

You just want to follow that initial line towards the runway, none of the other turns around it. Once you've landed, you can just ignore them. They're there for other approaches and/or for going around. Glad my videos have helped tho! Thanks for watching :)
Hi, Love your videos. They really help me but I have struggles getting the right angle to land, I always get the GPS to the airport but then I land almost 50 degrees to the runway or next to the runway. Any help would be appreciated !!!!
Activating the Approach is for when you've saved the approach earlier and you're now going to activate it. You would then need to Activate-Vectors-To-Final as well.
It's the exact same as normal FSX, Shift+3 (but some aircraft can be different or not even have a GPS). everything is loaded correctly however when attempting to land using the ILS, when exactly do I switch from GPS to NAV to the APP button......as sometimes my plane will overfly the runway , even if at 3000 feet alt..........thanks
I like your videos and I appreciate the work you put into them, but can you please go into more detail about how to do all this? i started and saved about 8 flights from the free flight panel now i'd like to delete them but don't know how. can u help it'd be much appreciated as i can't seem to set a direct pt to pt flight now.
The easiest way is to go in to save another flight. Then double click in the file path bar along the top and copy it, open up Files Explorer and paste it into the same bar and you'll see all of your plans you can delete etc.
On a real GPS 500/530, it seems that we can enter a departure procedure or complementary waypoints. Unless it is not simulated in FSX, I did not find how to do it.
hi again. i noticed on your gps window that u said the heading to Gatwick is 167 on the nav page but the brg shows 332 degrees. so then do i set my heading on the hsi to 167 or do i do the formula + magnetic - 360 to get new course?
No idea what most of that means, sorry. You just set your heading to whatever you want it as or set it to autopilot and you don't need to set your course at all
I have tried flying from Gatwick to Heathrow using the GPS and the ILS approach as shown on your video but for some reason the plane does not exactly follow the final-to-vecors route even thought it has been activatrd and can be seen on the GPS as a majenta line followed by the white runway; instead it goes over it. The other routes I have tried using the same method seem to work fine. Could it be that the turn required to land at Heathrow from Gatwick is too sharp? Help woukd be appreciated.
I imagine it's because you'd have to turn the aircraft around and make it to the runway at Heathrow in the same direction you took-off, so if you enabled the GPS soon after take-off, it wouldn't be able to make the turn in time, once it got to the start of the line. You would be able to do it if you preset a flight plan to line-up better or used ATC
Do you mean Load to Final and Activate to Final? As loading is just getting ready and keeping it on standby whereas activating it actually engages the flight plan. And no idea on your second one - sorry!
I’m kind of confused since I’m new to aviation. Can you make waypoints with gps?By waypoints I mean custom waypoints or do I have to use the flight planner and do real life pilots have custom waypoints? Or they just use the thing that you explain in the video?
In real life, pilots use the FMC to create custom waypoints. For many FSX aircraft, the FMC doesn’t work. I’m not sure if you can create custom waypoints in the GPS, I’ve never tried it, but pilots wouldn’t use the GPS at all - only in light aircraft
That's what I'm trying to find too. Can't seem to find anybody on RUclips who knows how to make a flight plan in FSX with the Garmin 500 with waypoints.
dude, thank you so much and i aprraciated it...the default Garmin system is always the best...because, i've tried the FMC system for PMDG's aircarfts and they were totally too difficult to accustemed to use it...i know FMC is better than this, but i prefer Garmin rather than FMC...i don't wanna struggle about lot's of things with FMC...
My question is if im going ifr Should i use that only problem i have with ifr is they will terminate my services for example if they said turn left 150 go to 150 no contact or anything the. They terminate me
Hey, Jack. I just started flight simulation and the ATC told me to head 020 but on my pink line on GPS, it is way off. Should I follow ATC or the GPS pink line?
Nice video. I wonder, how do you make a manually make a flight plan (with VORs and waypoints on your route) without using the FSX planner, but hardcore programming in the GPS itself?
Not sure for the GPS itself, after all, real-life commercial aircraft don't have a GPS. In real-life, pilots will use the FMC, otherwise you will have to use the FSX planner
not a very user friendly sat nav, when I try to enter the airport code the second letter goes lower case and it cant find the uk airports im looking for!

You can do that in the FSX Flight Planner
On the list of approaches, what's the difference between ILS and GPS.
ILS uses the guiding system to bring you down to the airport, you use that if you’re going to land using ILS. Otherwise use the GPS approach
How to make the yoke move to and fro by using keyboard??
Use the arrow keys or Crtl+Y and use your mouse
hi again. i noticed on your gps window that u said the heading to Gatwick is 167 on the nav page but the brg shows 332 degrees. so then do i set my heading on the hsi to 167 or do i do the formula + magnetic - 360 to get new course?
No idea what most of that means, sorry. You just set your heading to whatever you want it as or set it to autopilot and you don't need to set your course at all
Thanks for video...I'm a long way from ever owning a pc machine and either xplane11 or msf2020 so it's back to sim basics with FSX...SIGH
FSX is the best! Though I may be slightly bias 😂
really good and understandable video. Im sitting with my little notebook trying to remember everything so i can do it on my own. thank you:)
Thanks! Glad I could help you out :D
Did you know: the "TERR" button changes the GPS map to an Elevation map. And You helped me very well Thanks so much I liked you video 👍 👏👐👏👐👏👐👏👐👏
Thanks for letting me know! And glad you found it useful and thanks for watching!
330 - adjust dead point on joystick.
I'm not sure what you mean - could you explain?
wow, the videos keep getting better and better! also, first again!
It's really good to hear you're liking the videos! Thanks for the support!
when are you going to upload?
This tutorial is very helpful and well done! Good job 🖒
Thank you so much! And thanks for watching, don't forget to subscribe!
Jack's FSX Videos Already did ;)
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it.
Jack's FSX Videos ok thanks
No problem!
Can i ask?
1. What is difference between vectors to final and activate approach
2.what is?/ How to use trans beside vectors
Do you mean Load to Final and Activate to Final? As loading is just getting ready and keeping it on standby whereas activating it actually engages the flight plan. And no idea on your second one - sorry!
Oh, thank you so much
No problem!
So i should do a flight plan in the game and not before entering the game beacuse when i do it before i never can ILS land so imma try this one :)
Jack's FSX Videos Thank you so much! And i subbed
No problem and thank you so much!
How do you get the heading line from the gps to show up on the flight displays
The heading is displayed on the navigation display in the cockpit at the top
Hey man, is there a way to add waypoints in the GPS? Thank you
I'd assume so, but never tried it myself
That's what I'm trying to find too. Can't seem to find anybody on RUclips who knows how to make a flight plan in FSX with the Garmin 500 with waypoints.
6.51 my plane always overshoots as this is too close to runway to get in line.
dude, thank you so much and i aprraciated it...the default Garmin system is always the best...because, i've tried the FMC system for PMDG's aircarfts and they were totally too difficult to accustemed to use it...i know FMC is better than this, but i prefer Garmin rather than FMC...i don't wanna struggle about lot's of things with FMC...
I'm glad it helped you out! Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe!
My question is if im going ifr Should i use that only problem i have with ifr is they will terminate my services for example if they said turn left 150 go to 150 no contact or anything the. They terminate me
I always use the GPS when completing an IFR flight, they'll only terminate you if you divert from their course etc.
Hey, Jack.
I just started flight simulation and the ATC told me to head 020 but on my pink line on GPS, it is way off. Should I follow ATC or the GPS pink line?
Ofcourse the ATC they know what to do.
If you set it up in the FSX Flight Planner, it should sync up
Hey guys does anyone know how the autopilot of the Captain Sim L1011 works?
No idea, never tried it!
What's the key bind for the GPS?
Shift+3
Thanks for the helpful tutorials! You explain them very clearly.I also read your website and what happended.Stay strong!
Thanks so much! Appreciate that :D
can i fly direct to a waypoint for vatsim
Not sure, never used Vatsim
Which mods did you have in this video? this cant be default fsx?
I've used a HD Graphics Enhancer from Steam and REX 4 for weather.
Thanks! I will probably buy those things too. And great video ofc already subbed :p
Glad I could help! Thanks for watching and thank you so much for subscribing! I really appreciate it!
It may not work because this game was made in 2007, the airport you are reffering to might of been built after 2007
