Honestly, if someone made a movie that looks exactly like this I would watch it. I feel like not showing characters' faces at all opens a lot of great opportunities since it's harder to show emotion that way.
i think they just meant that emotion can be shown in other ways than just showing a character's face since it tends get overused and not show their emotions in their actions/voice/etc.. ^^
There is no intentional appeal created according to formulas, on the contrary, the characters barely noticeable features of human faces, but they communicate like us and this makes them more interesting.
This is pretty good! I can imagine the characters displaying emotion more in body language, or changes in their form, rather than through facial expressions, with the style like this. I like the realistic look, and the fact it makes me kind of think of early 2000s commercials... cool take on it.
charlie chaplin always worried about movies with tone that they would kill of the core element of good moviemaking. Wich is "obviously" pantomimic expressions. I would love if there would be a movie that goes back to the tradtion of displaying motions via body languange.
Reducing characters to vague humanoid shapes is so good! I think it could be easier to see yourself in these characters, and it could challenge the director to get creative with movement and body language.
I don't know if you know "Pitch Meetings" or not, but I totally heard this in Ryan George's voice, but instead he said "reducing characters to vague humanoid shapes is TIGHT" 😂 (If you have not seen his "Pitch Meeting" videos, you won't "get" this reference, sorry! But they are *hugely* popular and for good reason so I highly recommend putting a film name into the search bar, followed by the words "Pitch Meeting")
the look in wades face when he goes 💧its just so accurate and you can tell how hes feeling just by looking at him. it was so realistic i started feeling 💧, 🔥, and 🗿all at the same time. the animation was so amazing.
If this movie was realistic the elements wouldn't be Fire, Water, Earth and Wind but actual elements from the periodic table. I would totally watch that movie
This looks awesome but let's not knock on the original just because it's "cuter". People have put years into making the film and it looks like it'll be great to me personally.
And also sometimes they make their water and fire and other background effects purposely stylized so that the animated characters don’t look out of place.
It's not that Pixar is bad at realism. They just know that a cartoony look makes for more appealing character design. There's no way anyone's going to form an emotional connection with these shop mannequins.
Honestly, the character designs in the original seem uncanny to me. I think they would’ve worked way better in a 2d style. But I haven’t seen anyone else point that out. Your work in contrast actually looks and feels rather nice. I like that we don’t have emoting faces. Usually I’m not a fan of realism, but here it works.
It looks interesting, especially amused by the head from Easter Island😆. But the idea is interesting, to deprive the characters of the standard recognition and attractiveness created according to the graphs, to present the protagonists without human faces, but with human behavior and the nature of communication.
Looks sick but idk why so many people are hating on the actual trailer. I agree practically everything Disney has done recently is crap but like i thought the trailer actually looked interesting for once
In my case, I'm really not feeling the artstyle and faces of the characters, idk what it is ab it but I just found them so ugly, I feel like it would have been better if disney made it a 2d animated movie instead of a pixar movie, but we'll see
Honestly this faceless “elemental body only” representation, considering this story is supposed to be based on the directors inter relationships and dating experiences, could absolutely have been so much more profound to whatever the fuck message he’s going to be trying to deliver in that theme imo Forced them to get a lot more creative without how they’d show emotions or actions for those emotions rather than just pure facial expressions which could absolutely work really well with how fluid and dynamic elements are (like fire could turn different colors depending on the moods, or water can lose his ability to hold shape depending on stress) but whatever you do you Disney wtf so I know
Not gonna lie, this looks like a really fascinating experiment! I also think it's funny that the rock dudes are the only ones to have faces... and they're just moais.
I wanted to see a movie made all like that, it's much better than the Disney one! Seriously, congratulations on your work, you have a lot of talent, keep it up.
