    It is already looking amazing and I am impressed you did it on your own. Thank you for taking us along. I like your approach of going step by step, doing as much as you can, not expecting fast and perfect results. It is much more relatable than the quick and easy projects that are done by professionals and with a large budget. Those are often beautiful, but not as inspiring. So I really appreachiate you sharing your own personal space and progress with us.

      Congratulations! It looks stunning, Rachel! Great job, both of you! Removing old wallpaper, and popcorn ceilings creates a clean canvas to work with. I think it's the most important step in the redecorating process. I had the popcorn removed from my home this past summer as well. I know very well what a messy, difficult job it is! The results are well worth it, though! I think popcorn is THE WORST. It gets dirty and you can't clean it. Just awful! Enjoy your fresh canvas!

    • @27acresaway24
      @27acresaway24 Год назад

      We will be removing our popcorn ceiling in the future and was wondering, do you just scrape it off(after testing) and then paint or do you have to have the ceiling plastered before painting? Thank you.

    • @onepartwild
      @onepartwild Год назад +1

      @@27acresaway24 If your place was built in the 70's or earlier, testing isn't necessary. It is definitely toxic material. You'll want to spray it with water to make scraping easier and dust-free. You should still wear a mask, however. After removing the popcorn, you'll be left with drywall that will need plastering, and texturing if you desire. Once it's dry, about 24 hours, you can start painting.

    A couple of years ago I defined my 'style' as English country as well. I love your 'good, better, best' approach. I have the 'better' for our home at the moment but it's not the best. What stood out to me were the dark wood tones, blue and white China, gallery walls, quirky curiosities, and embracing the obviously shabby...rooms that looked curated over time and not bought from a show room floor. I love my living room now, but look forward to the day when I can begin to work on the 'best' version of the room.

    What a lovely transformation. Hard work does pay off. I did notice at 1:40 into this video a round table on the left. I immediately saw it in front of the window between 2 wing back chairs, But I see its gone in the final reveal. I think it would really finish that side of the room ... maybe with a beautiful bouquet, a few books and a candlestick,. Can't wait to see how the brick wall is completed. I love the red brick. One long mantle from one side to the other would give you a place for all your lovely books and art and candles.

      Good afternoon, Miss Liane!
      You are on the same track! I did have the round table between the two wingback chairs, with a lamp, in front of the big window... but it was significantly higher than either chair and awkward to use. Plus, it blocked the window and felt "off." I do have other plans for that drum table , but for now, we're hunting for a properly fitting mantel.

    Ohhhh I love the color of paint you chose for that wall. I really expected you to do a lime wash on the brick. I love the brick as it is now myself. Thank goodness that was old termite damage. I’ve dealt with that and it was an absolute nightmare. It was behind the paneling in our den. Your living area looks cozy and inviting 💕. ~ Janet 😘

    • @StoneCottageHome
      @StoneCottageHome  Год назад +2

      Good morning, Miss Janet!
      I did consider a lime wash, or German shmear, but every tutorial I came across still looked liked a DIY project when finished, plus I realized that it would actually make the wall "louder" than it currently is. It is that red brick that makes this room so cozy, so we've decided to embrace it. Termite damage is no fun!

      Good morning, Miss Susan!
      I'm delighted to have you along for this design journey! How I wish I could sit by your side and just _show_ you how to navigate Pinterest! I've looked around for a tutorial to recommend, but all of the ones I came across where for business accounts. Perhaps you have a daughter, grand-daughter that could lend a hand?
      If you already have an account there is a plus button on the right-hand side that will create a board. You simply name the board "French Cottage Kitchens", or whatever you will be collecting there. Then you'll return to the main Pinterest page and in the search bar type in what you are looking for. As you browse the pins and see one you'd like to "pin" on your board, simply hover over that pin, click the SAVE button, and choose the board you created.
      I hope this helps! Just keep trying and you'll get it! Thanks for stopping by!

In the meantime I am taking photos of things I like, sending them to my computer, printing them and putting the photos in a notebook. (The old fashioned way!) How I love your videos and appreciate that you are careful to stay in your budget. Thrifting here in South Florida is definitely different than other parts of the country.
