This was actually before his drug addiction. When he first started out he thought he had to say all of these wild and ridiculous things to get attention. The story about Slim Shady is that they had the idea in the group about alter egos and he actually came up with Slim Shady while sitting on the toilet. This song came out in 2000, his drug addiction started on the set of 8 Mile in 2001. He admitted with dealing with his addiction and everything he didn’t even know Christopher Reeves died until October 2009, five years after his death.
I think you forget he once said in an interview he wants to be that person when you hear him you pause and say wtf did he just say.
I commend him because he still does it to this day.
@@MrKnowledge0014 I remember that. That has nothing to do with my comment though. I just clarified this video was before his addiction, he came up with Slim Shady on the toilet, and that he didn’t know Christopher Reeves died until 2009.
He was defiantly doing drugs then but he wasn't addicted until like 2004-2005
@@jonathanliston7654 He started taking sleeping pills in 2001 on the set of 8 Mile because between filming, contributing to the writing process, writing and recording music, and executive producing the soundtrack himself he was only getting about two hours of sleep a day. That is definitely when his addiction started. By the end of filming in late 2001 to early 2002 he became dependent on them to sleep and before 2003 even hit he was on way stronger stuff. It really started spiraling out of control in 2004, then Proof died in 2006 and he just basically lost himself in it until his overdose in December 2007 where he went into a coma and almost died. He went through recovery in the hospital and into rehab in 2008 where he wrote pretty much the entirety of Relapse and Relapse 2.
@@Kno_Buddy he mentions in his XXL smuggling drugs from Tijuana, and one time he thought he was gonna get caught and that if he had gone to jail his career would have never happened and Slim Shady LP wouldn't have released
Also, the Christopher Reeves thing was about his shots at him on Relapse, which, as you said, worked on while he was in rehab, so he had been quite isolated from the outside and it wasn't until after he was done with it that he learned he died because when it happened Em was already pretty fucked but successfully downplaying his addiction in public (according to the same interview)
Here only for the reaction to the jLo line lol. Hahaha I love seeing people hear that line for the first time. I remember being 10 years old when me and my friends were listening to this album and that blew our minds.

Replying after a year but still explaining in case you read and get at ease Christopher Reeves situation started when he got in that 🐎 accident Eminem though it was funny watching superman break his legs and sit on a chair.

As offensive as the content was, the look when Tom took off his headphones wasn't one of disgust, but rather awe at how such a talented artist could and would be saying something so shocking -- which is definitely totally on brand for Slim shady as one of the three personas of Marshall Mathers/Eminem/Slim Shady
