      Jenny was the shameless villain of the film; poor Forrest deserved better, she repays his kindness by using, insulting, and emotionally manipulating him, fucking other dudes knowing full well how Gump deeply loved her; and the final nail in the coffin she gave him Aids and a sickly child that most likely wasn't his.

      The story itself is more than a bit absurd because of how unlikely it is for one person to experience all these things, however because Gump is such a simple man, he acts as a clear lens for the times this movie is portraying. We see the events through his mostly unbiased, unassuming eyes.

    1. The music rights alone must have cost a small fortune
    2. Kurt Russell did the voice for Elvis.
    3. IRL Sally Fields is only 10 years older than Tom Hanks.
    4. Having gotten his degree Forrest could have gone into the Army as an officer like Lt. Dan. His ASVAB kills that.
    5. He actually saved Lt Dan twice. Once in the field and again to get him out of his post war funk and Dan turned his life around.
    6. Normally an enlisted Army person would be fully aware of his/her separation date.
    5. Jenny did indeed give him the best gift ever (it wasn't the shoes)
    8. Jenny died of Hep-C from dirty needles when she was in Caliphony.
    9. It's ironic that Lt. Dan told the guys to take care of their feet because he loses his.
    10. At the rally Forrest says, "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that."
    11. You have had a ride through recent US history and culture. From Elvis, John Lennon, Abby Hoffman to Vietnam and Watergate. Even the jogging craze of the 70's. About the only thing left out was streaking.
    13. "Sometimes I guess there're just aren't enough rocks"
    14. Haley Joel Osmentt/Forrest Jr. steals the show in "The Sixth Sense" with Bruce Willis.
    15. Often when he's finishing a segment about death, he ends it by saying "That's all I have to say about that"
    16 Keep in mind if Jenny wasn't wasting her life seeking men like her father and was with Forrest he/we wouldn't have had this incredible journey.

    Lt. Dan is the true hero of this film. He stuck with Forrest from day one. He never asked him to change, never put him down or underestimated him for his lack of intelligence. And he always kept his word with Forrest. When Forrest left Bubba Gump Shrimp Co, he invested his money and shared it with Gump. Think about it. He was the only one of normal intelligence (besides his mom) who treated him like an equal.

  • @joshhansen1679
    @joshhansen1679 5 месяцев назад +13

    Drives me crazy how easily everyone always judges Jenny. Of course Forrest didn't deserve how she treated him but you have to understand deep rooted trauma to understand Jenny's life.
    When Jenny was a child all she ever wanted was to be able to run away and as an adult that's all she ever did. She knew Forrest loved her and she loved Forrest back, but she didn't know how to receive love. It took her many years, pretty much her whole life to work through her childhood trauma.

    Watched this as a young kid and missed a lot, but as I watched the movie multiple times getting older, it changed my view on it. First time I watched it, I thought Jenny was evil, but then I realized that because of her abuse, she gravitated towards abusive men and was trying to keep Gump away since she didn't feel worthy of his love. I also really noticed how much Lt. Dan really made his peace with God and moved on from the war, even marrying a Vietnamese woman. Also had no idea why Jenny was dying and later realized it was in the middle of the AIDS epidemic when it was still pretty unknown.

      Couldn't have been AIDS, though. That would've mean Forrest Jr. had it too. It was the early days of it, doctors didn't know what it was, so Jenny would've passed it on the baby, 100%. No medication to help with that. Plus, she most probably would've passed it on Forrest himself. They had no idea how to mitigate it, so probably no condoms. I believe the autor of the book said it has Hepatitis C.

    The most poetic thing in this whole movie, I think you missed it (I did too the first time), was the feather.
    The movie started with the feather blowing on the breeze, and ended with the same feather blowing on a breeze, no control, just going where life takes it.
    Forrest's life was like that.
    Everything happened in his life and he didn't have any control over it. High school, college, army, Viet Nam, the hurricane, getting rich with the shrimp then richer when Lieutenant Dan invested in Apple stocks, Jenny, little Forrest, all of it.
    Forrest IS that feather in the wind.
    He even said so: 54:55 "We're all just floating around accidental-like on a breeze".

    Pretty close.
    Victor Charlie, which stands for V.C. which in turn is the initials of the Viet Cong, the enemy.
    The army likes to talk in code as much as possible, so instead of saying "Let's hunt Viet Cong" it became "Let's hunt Victor Charlie" which is just way too long to say, so that became "Let's hunt Charlie".

    Jenny's problem is how she was used and abused, 1st by her father, then by every man she met except Forrest. She felt like she was worth nothing and was never going to be worth anything and would just bring Forrest down with her , she had no idea how to love anyone. It wasn't until she had little Forrest and was given one pure good thing in her life she was able to find her self worth to a point and then accepted that she loved Forrest and always had and it was OK to love someone and not expect them to hurt her. It is very complicated and you get snippets of it in every scene she is in. The first thing you see is all she knows how to do is run from anything as she keeps telling Forrest to do , she doesn't know any other way to deal with the pain and bad and it takes her so long to finally figure it out ( unfortunately this is true for too many and some never get to figure anything out) , Jenny deserves pity not hate , she didn't know how to love until it was too late but she gave Forrest 2 gifts before she left, true love and what it feels like , and someone to love and give his life meaning in Forrest Jr. . Forrest might not be a genius but I would lay any bet he is an incredibly loving and good father.

    Good reaction....but a lot of people (you included) don't seem to understand why Jenny is so toxic. Her character is that way because she is broken after years of physical and 'SA' abuse at the hands of her father as a child. She never healed from that so she's been carrying around that trauma throughout her entire life. And the only way she knows how to deal with her problems is to run away and hide, just like when she was a little girl who used to run away and hide in the cornfield, or run away at night and hide in Forest Gump's bedroom. She also doesn't think that she's capable of being loved...she thinks she's trash and hates that she exists. This is why she treats Forest Gump so harshly. She's not lashing out at him....she's really lashing out at herself. The filmmakers did a great job of portraying a victim of child abuse who's now an adult. In a lesser film (like most films today), after the scene of Jenny being removed from her father's house and put into the care of her grandmother, the adult version of Jenny would've been totally fine. But this movie took a braver route by saying that people take these traumatic experiences with them throughout their lives, and are in a constant state of a work-in-progress.

    • @MJWITHOUTSPIDERMAN
      @MJWITHOUTSPIDERMAN  6 месяцев назад

      I definitely understood that. I think anyone can understand that. But Jenny was an adult. Forrest was going through stuff too and he didn’t let it affect him negatively. This is applied to real life as well. We are ALL going through some tough stuff. Or in her case when through tough stuff as a kid. That doesn’t give us the right to be crappy people and do crappy things or treat other people crappy. If anything that should’ve made her want to be a better person towards people. Or even a better parent since her father never was. You can feel for her and understand… but you can’t make that an excuse. The same way she did at the end where she picked herself up and realized what she’s worth, she could’ve did throughout the entire film. I feel for her though. I really do.

    • @fidel2xl
      @fidel2xl 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@MJWITHOUTSPIDERMAN - Everything you just wrote indicates that you don't understand her character, the character's trauma and suicidal tendencies, and the fact that while it may seem that she's being 'crappy' to Forest, she was actually trying to protect him from HER. She didn't want to bring her trauma into Forest's life, which is why she kept pushing him away. She didn't want to infect him with her issues. It was her way of protecting the only person she loves. She wanted to insulate him from her dysfunction. This isn't an excuse for her or for anyone to treat other people harshly. It is simply an explanation of why she is the way she is. Again...not many people get that which is why the 'Jenny' character in this movie is one of the most misunderstood characters.

    • @MJWITHOUTSPIDERMAN

      Sooo protecting him from her means sleeping with him even tho she doesn’t wanna be w him so therefore hurting his feelings then not telling him about his child until she had no other choice because she was dying? A lot of people including me, really didn't like Jenny but without Jenny he'd have been screwed. She told him to run if he's ever in trouble and he survived on those words. He was on the straight and narrow with tunnel vision to be with her one day, when so many other women would have taken advantage of him, just taken his money and broke his heart. She never wanted a dime and gave him a child. After watching it a few times, Jenny kept a distance, but she was screwed up and he was out there doing really well and she didn't want to mess that up for him. People like to try and force that relationship, but I don't think that's fair.
    What's neat is Forrest and Lt. Dan talk about his legs being made of the same metal used in the space shuttle and like a year later they're both playing astronauts together. The stories Tom Hanks could tell about all the movies he's been in. That would be one great book.

    When you watch it a few times you do see Jenny in a different light. She was messed up and endured abuse since childhood and had heavy drug use. She loved Forrest the problem was that she felt like he was too good for her because she had such a low self image from all the abuse. Molested by her father, went from abusive relationship to abusive relationship all through her life. And when she did clean up her life she sincerely apologized to Forrest and took responsibility for her treatment of him. And her virus at the end is HIV from her previous drug use.

    One of the greatest movies of all time. Say what you want but I really dislike Jenny. She always told him to run because that’s what she was best at, then came around when it was beneficial to her. She was very selfish, though I understand she had inner demons but when he needed her most she vanished. Any time she needed a helping hand, he extended his but she didn’t always reciprocate it. But anyway, looking forward to the reaction.
