I had the brief case which means I can see people through the walls. I was spamming the button to see him, when all of the sudden his aura was gone. Which means prior to the most recent update, he had to have mimic'd. So i knew he would be an object near by.

It's just his playstyle. His recklessness is risky and can cause other players to get the jump on him. Being stealthy is totally a valid playstyle and there are even agents that specialize in it. There was an update added today that helps enforce a more slow and methodical playstyle, too much to share here but still.
