#wildcamping #StormAiden #BlackDiamondHiLight A wild and scary wild camp and some strange electronic goings on whilst trying to ride out a storm in my Black Diamond Hilight Tent.
Lol, we had been down at Glen Trool, doing Lamachan hill, saw a fire at the edge of the forest on the way back which going by where you camped, was yours! We spent the night in the van at Stinchar bridge, it was wild! Guys who were camping in the car park must've bailed out too, they were gone early doors. Kudos for lasting as long.
I'm currently looking at either the 3p version of that tent or the eldorado for more stormworthiness. They are similar in weight, and while completely different tents, the extra space comes in handy for trips with my girlfriend. I have a BA Copper Spur 3p for summer that we love but I'm looking for something that can stand up to a storm (and some snow) and not absorb a ton of water. How would you say it handled the wind? Do you have concerns over it's ability to take a little punishment, should I go for the more robust eldo?
Hi Harry, it handled the wind really well, probably one of the best I've tried. I chickened out before the tent, the Eldorado would be amazing though if you don't mind a bit of extra weight. A
@@AndrewParkOutdoors hey Andrew, I went with the Ekdo and on its first night out we had over 2 feet of snow. It handled it really well! I never got out to knock snow off and aside from the walls closing in a little, which was totally understandable, there were no issues. Condensation was minimal, even with two of us in it. Sure, the 3p hilight would offer us more room, but I eventually went for the more burly option. If only it took up less room in my pack! Thanks for your videos on the highlight. They show the tent, it's features, and it's strengths, in the real world. It's a worthy, under appreciated piece of kit, even if I went for the Eldorado. If I needed a true 4 season tent, it would be atop my list.
Good vid Andrew. I know that 'wind anxiety' feeling all too well. I had a tent destroyed by Hurricane Bawbag and several windy trips since. That lying awake, monitoring every gust, is a unique experience for sure😁
Really enjoyed your video Andrew. Shame the storm came and cut your camp short but I'm sure you had a great time anyway. Not visited the Galloway Forest park yet but will definitely get up there one day for a wildcamp. Stunning area especially to camp. Can you recommend a great place to camp in the park as I love to Forest camp. Many Thanks Andy 🌲🌲⛺🌲🌲
That was wild one Andrew , tent held up really well and you lasted well too lol .... Re your gopro have you done the firmware update as I noticed the dreaded popping in some of the audio playbacks . Done mine a last week and it is much improved and I am getting to grips with the best settings 😂 now atb Dave
@Andrew Park - I’m hoping you can help me. I’m looking at purchasing a Hilite 2P but all the Canadian retailers are out of stock but there is one at a UK retailer. Before I make the trans-Atlantic purchase I’m worried two (2) 25” / 64cm mats will fit. I spoke with Black Diamond today and the customer service rep is working from home and wasn’t sure if they would fit. How wide are the mats you use? 20” (51cm) or 25” (64cm)? If you can provide any insight it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Hi Colin, Unfortunately I think you'll need the 3p to fit those mats. The internal width on our 2p is 127cm at wide end and 106cm at foot and we use two 51cm mats . Hope it saves you a wrong purchase ! happy camping. Andrew
@@AndrewParkOutdoors - high Andrew, thanks for the reply. I actually didn’t realize the tent wasn’t square. You really did save me a wrong purchase. Thank you.
Nice one, looked a cracking night but brutal in the morning. I opted for a day hike the same day rather than a camp because of the forecast. Fair play to you mate bet you slept all day Saturday lol ..cheers enjoyed that .. ATB Stevie (New Subscriber)
I'm not sure it's actually listed but the material has a rubberised feeling to it which gives me the impression it's pretty high, it's only ever wept at seam in points ( like most of my tents ) so I added a wee touch of Silnet and it's been brilliant.
Madness....but great fun. I’ve an alpkit viper, so that’s a worry. I do carry a backup, a wee Olight (other brands are available) which is tiny but belts out a fair few hundred lumens when you need it. Might be worth getting a back up A. Good watch as always.👍👍
Wow! That was cool. Glad to see you made it back ok. Think you made the right decision to call it when you did. Shame your headlamp gave up its ghost on you. I keep a little key fob flashlight as a back up, but I don’t know if a little light like that would have helped in your situation. God bless.
That tent looks fantastic lit up at night, loving the videos!
Cheers Stuart, yes looks better than it does during day, that blue is an acquired taste !
I think that you got out at the right time.I do like that tent. ATB
I chickened out long before the tent did :-)

Cheers Greg, that would have been me I reckon, only reason I lasted that long was earplugs , once I woke , forget it ! ;-)
New to channel but enjoyed the camp. Look forward to more and stay safe out there.
Thanks for taking a look, much appreciated 🙂
HELLO. GREAT. CAMPING.
Thank you.
Green video,I’m sure we’ve all experienced a night or two like that. It’s a good way of testing kit and you’re own metal.
Thanks, when i got home I was grinning, bit nervous before dawn tho ;-)

Great video mate , i was out that night as well , very wild but i cheated a bit , just subbed as well 👍
Thanks Ally, I like your wooden tent, could have done with that ! A
@@AndrewParkOutdoors 😁 i dont think my cheap tent would have survived !

Yes once I woke I knew it was a waste of time trying to get back to sleep :-)
What a beautiful woodland after crossing the bridge
Ghee thought you were going get blown away. That black diamond looked like a nice tent. ATB
as usual the wild ones are the most entertaining! they certainly find the weak spots in your equipment......

Well. You wanted a winter kit shakedown! The camping god answered. Nice one.
The camping devil more like ;-)

Thanks Dave, I didn't know about the firmware update, so thanks I'll do that, though no idea how ( tech challenged ) !
@@AndrewParkOutdoors lol connect your phone to GoPro app and it should detect and tell you what to do 👍
Great video 👍
We were out on Dartmoor that same night and it was a tad blowy down here as well.
Amazing what a beating a tent can take lol
ATB Dean 😃
Nice one Dean, yes I chickened out before the tent did ;-)

Glad you survived un scathed. The tent looked like it held up well. 👍
Better than me Gordon ;-)
Andrew Park: Better safe than sorry, as they say. 👍

Yep early night on Saturday :-)
Hi Andrew can I ask what the hh on that tent mate?
I'm not sure it's actually listed but the material has a rubberised feeling to it which gives me the impression it's pretty high, it's only ever wept at seam in points ( like most of my tents ) so I added a wee touch of Silnet and it's been brilliant.
Andrew Park cheers mate I couldn’t find its hh anywhere just thought it may be on the tent no worries stay safe.

Always great ( in retrospect ), nah I loved it ;-)
Fantastic camp, the bail outs are the ones you remember! Atb fella
You header ( in the good sense), Andrew as an angler I've never been let down by coleman lights 👍

Yep learned a lesson there Mike to keep my back up Petzl emergency light in the pack ! Everyday is a school day :-)
Good call. Tent looked good tho.
No more torridon? Hope it didn't let you down!
Great camp mate 👌👌💯
Definitely a good decision Andrew...gotta be safety first...till the next one!!
Disappointed the sponge wasn’t blue 🤔
Good point, I'll dye it.
