Making simple silver and turquoise cabochons (aka cabs) freehand on a flat lap. I started with 3 and a few more from an earlier project also got included. email: meminerrocks@gmail.com
simply wonderful. I liked that you included (or didn't edit out) the piece that broke. SO often we see the 'perfection in the process', but often not see what to do with a mistake. You, Daisy and Shelby are my favorite YT 'channel entities'. I appreciate and respect the hardships and rewards you go through (and present for us also). May your recoveries continue to be positive and forthcoming.
50,000 would be a good stopping point. They would look wet and get the appearance of depth In the pattern on that turquoise, which is amazing ! The silver would become mirror like. It always cool to see!
Your cabochons are all stunning, but I love the silver ore the best! So unique and the pattern of silver in the host rock is amazing! Hank you for sharing!
I love them all. The indand polisher works really good. The silver took on a nice metallic shine but I liked the turquoise color mix the best. Keep the goodness coming. Be happy, safe and stay healthy 😷⚒
Well… took me several times to finish this beautiful video.. sometimes my house is too loud.. and I love watch you on the big screen.. anyway.. just beautiful!.. thanks for including us all..❤️☮️
I have some other polishes, but more to this story - I got water in my flat lap motor, so 1200 grit was as far as I could go. I have since replaced the motor and will only use that machine as a saw from now on. The problem is the motor sits vertical, directly under the table and water can find its way down the pin. It has a washer that is supposed to flick water away when the saw is running, but dirt can jam it up. As a saw, the pin is horizontal. Instead, I now have bought a slat lap.
I have about 10 lbs of Kingman Az. Turquoise Dark blue I love making the Cabochons you never know what your going to get. A family member brought me a Ton of Lapidary and Silver Jewelry and at least 10 lbs of Turquoise I found some Nice Opals too.... I am Happy as can be now that I can make Cabs and Jewelry Again I love to find the Gems and make Jewelry out of it Nice Setup you Have I like it. Smile
Wow so delicious - would never guess (apart from the turquoise) those rough old rocks would look so stunning - about how long do you think it takes? Always makes me want to see all rocks polished!!! Have a great day with your Special Ladies... 👍🦘🐾✨
With this kind of lap, the most time is cleaning and changing out the blades. It would be nice to do it outside and clean with a hose. Doing a large number of rocks with each grit before changing the blades is probably the way to go.
Awesome !!! I love the way the silver with the cobalt turned out. Those are all beautiful. I like your stirring motion when you are shaping the cabs, I wish I were half that steady !! Thank you for the info and the adventure !!! Take Care and Best Regards to the family and your furry kids as well !!! I hope you are healing well and getting over the bone-ache when the bones are growing back together !!! Will they be leaving all the hardware in permanently?
I bought this machine used and it is an older model. Probably, not fair to the company and viewers to review because what people can now buy is different.
@@meMiner I really wish I could have got over to you this year, I think we would have had some real fun, especially as I am litterally a fool in my behaviour and I seriously can't avoid Sarcasm, in a nice way obviously.
@@symonrocks9847 IMHO: It is still a bad time to travel to Canada with all the rules and restrictions. If I got to dislike your sarcasm, I could always leave you somewhere to see if your army training was any good. ;-)
@@meMiner Hahahaha, I see will be getting on just fine, Daisy and I will be watching you get smaller In the rear view mirror. No chance this year anyway, the next year depends on governments, if they are not overturned.
Awsome shaping,, the turquoise is stunning but then again so Is the silver rectangle , I think your only option is to go find more silver after converting your truck into sub aqua van 😂
That's pretty cool Greig!! Do you have any thoughts on the Jooltool? Do you know anyone that has used one? It seems like the perfect all in one kit for doing all sorts of work.
I had seen someone demonstrate at a rock show. Never tried it nor know anyone that has one. Maybe you will be the first? Instead, I just got myself a slant lap from Robert Hall Originals. I took a one day cabbing course with him in January and I got the same machine as int the course.
Hiya Greg, dude that's nice! Really nice! Awesome video and beautiful stones. I like......you like? 😁 I hope you have a awesome blessed day. Cya! 😺🐟out!
@@meMiner I just know in the metal world when you are doing fine polishing you can't cross contaminate wheel compounds or materials because of the different abrasive qualities of the particles. If you have stainless dust, it could get impregnated in softer materials and destroy finish. Different world though.
I bought mine used and it wasn't very expensive. It is an older model, so probably not appropriate to list. I just bought a new slant lap and would feel more comfortable reviewing it, once I have used it for a short while.
@@meMiner just love the hunts and finds you do. If you change your mind, I’ll be here to buy those beautiful stones. I collect myself from the beach at Lake Manitoba. I find some pretty ones on good day. I’d love to go on a hunt with you. You go to great places. I wonder where you can find silver in Manitoba? Anyway, thanks for the reply and I’ll be watching to if you change your mind 😉🙏
They do turn out beautiful, I am glad you cut some
This turquoise was from Neil, which he collected in Arizona and sent to me when I mentioned in a video. He has stared a YT channel. Check it out.
Thanks for the great rocks. Next up, I want to slice and harden some of the stone you sent me. I have a new slat lap, still in box.
Nice
@@nealfoster70 I figured out how to pin this thread to the top of comments.
These stone were collected from the mountains of northern Nevada
after all the cabs i made i prefer the free form ,, they come out much nicer in my eyes
I have turquoise envy.
reminds me of my high school jewelry class 50 yrs ago !! oh i wish i could do this again !!

I really liked how that rectangle came out, very different.
They turned out great.
Wow those came out very nice very well edited
WOW ! That silver was so shiny 6:43 looks like your red flannel was showing in the reflection, hey.
I really loved the cabbing lesson. ** Thanks **
Oh, thanks for pointing that out, I was wondering where the red suddenly came from.🤷🏻♀️ Good spotting! Thanks and take care😁👋🏼
Dop sticks from the Home Hardware Dowel Collection... LOL! that's what I did.
That was cool about the wax, I've always wondered about that.
Thanks, MeMiner...
I like.
Thank you for all the videos and sharing your knowledge
The rectangular piece is fantastic, really stands out, to me!
All beautiful pieces.
What beauties! Thnx and have a great day!
Nice!
Mate you do nice work wonderful how well they cleaned up.
Very nicely done. Oh , some guy, a subscriber named Symon wondered if it was a good idea to stir your coffee with the cabs obviously helps
If Symon knew me better, he would observe that I don't drink out of little cups like that. When I need a coffee, I need a big one. LOL
Too funny!😂 Simon doesn’t miss the details...👁👁👍🏼
NICE!
I’ve never seen this done. I’ve heard you and others talk about it, now I’ve seen the process. Thanks for sharing this.
Absolutely love it! Fantastically useful video. Thank you for making this.
Thanks for showing how easy it seems! I need to make some for my jewelry that I make!
Looks like fun for a crappy weather day! Keep the videos coming!
Awesome stuff, I like how you showed whole process, including when the cab broke, I think it's important to show an authentic experience.

Worth the effort in doing so, another great learning experience from the meMINRR to all that love learning...
Hello wow another great video. The silver looks great all polished. But the green one is a favorite in this video.
Beautiful colors!loving the blue green .

Just one comment, Is it really a good idea dipping cabs in your coffee!

Good call!
Wow. So pretty! I need to get started slabbing cabbing, but was hoping to work with some knowledgeable people first - in person, someday.
I was the same. I took a one day course at a rock shop. Spent all day making a cab. I should have taken a video there.
One can never beat silver...
Look great and Keep up the vids!
Dang there is alot of silver in those
😊 Thank you.
The green just pops out
Beautiful!! 💙💙💙💙💙💙
Lovely! Great sound effect's! Spray lacquer finish the silver ones to prevent patina?
I have some rocks that were polished a few years ago and haven't notice patina yet.

funny what a little work will do.
Gorgeous! You prob get asked this alot but...Would you ever sell/do a commission cab for someone, hypothetically me?
I am not good enough to do it for selling.
SAAA-WEET!!!🤗
Awesome. 👍
do u remember the time u made some beads. can u do u it again but this time with stones that contain silver and other types of gemstones....
I think that would be a great idea. I probably made those beads with the worst kind of rock to try (banded iron).
Cobalt? Is that safe? A bit worried for you...
No rocks are perfectly safe, especially the dust.
meMiner I hope you wear a mask?😷👍🏼
has a carabeen looks
Do you ever run into issues cross contaminating grits or materials?
I ran into problems knowing what blade was what grit, until I marked them with permanent marker.

@@MOTOMINING Makes sense. Just like tumbling. Don't mix rocks of various hardness, especially if you want the softer ones to succeed.
