Harry was my guy. He was so invested in the Cubs. Harry was first and foremost a HUGE fan. You could hear it and feel it every day in his broadcast. Boog is a national broadcast guy. I wonder if JD would also be better if he had a partner that was more invested in the team. I loved Harry and Steve Stone together. I do like the radio guys, Pat and Ron.

Harry would call the players out and didn't hide his disgust when the team was playing in an uninspired way. Boog just isn't like that. He tries to be an impartial observer. There's a lot to be said for that, but it's not what Cubs fans are drawn to.

Boog is not a Cub. Period! It's not a knock on him personally, but when you hear his voice broadcasting the Brewers in the playoffs, it kills whatever intimate connection he is trying to build with Cub fans.

Thanks guys, I listened to his entire interview, and I felt the same way. According to Boog, the manager has little more to do than fill out the batting order and then sit down in the dugout while the game is being played. Boog is clearly not a Cubs fan. He looks at himself as a national broadcaster first and not a Cubs broadcaster. I don't want him to become a Hawk Harrelson, but I do want him to represent the fans point of view a bit more. And his take on a "sense of urgency" is clearly off base.

Every time someone like Boog espouses a philosophy like that on the manager, I always want to ask them "then why doesn't the team save six or seven figures by not having a manager at all, and instead have some front-office intern making $40K a year sit in the dugout and just make lineup and in-game decisions by whatever WPA calculation a computer spits out?"

Keep it up and I agree to a point with most views. Boog is a good play by play guy. The team is bad so there is not much to talk about and he os not going to bad mouth his boss and shoot himself in the foot.
I wouldnt let a play by play guy dictate how I feel about the team. Some insight on the innerworkings and behind the scenes stuff is always cool.

Sam is 100% on point when he says Boog "talking to the fans like that is a little much." What if your electric company was completely average but showed no sense of urgency in improving during a power outage? Or a police department with no sense of urgency in a criminal crisis? Or your car mechanic when your needs matter? Good businesses and good industries have a sense of urgency bred into their culture. And while I hate using such corporate language myself, it is the truth. If the Cubs don't have a sense of urgency, maybe it's time I just cave and watch the Dodgers. 'Cus let me tell you something...when they lost two NLDS in a row, and their only WS trophy in recent times was from a 60 game season, they felt a sense of urgency to miss miss on Ohtani.

Schambi is just another talking head . He has no allegiance to the Cubs or any other team . His whole broadcast revolves around the bullshit stories of his career and his experiences with a little bit of the Cubs game thrown in as filler . I don't give a damn about all of the highlights of his career , I just want to hear about the Cubs and their opponent that day and about what's happening on the field . Let him write a book about himself and if anyone gives a shit they can read all about Boog , he can also include some of the dead air from his broadcasts . I was really disappointed when they hired this guy and that hasn't changed . There are a good number of qualified people loyal to the Cubs that would have been better choices but Ricketts in his infinite wisdom chose to go the national route with an unaffiliated celebrity . I dropped Marquee in the middle of last year so I really don't care anymore but it was one of the reasons for that decision . Listening to Pat and Ron on the radio is so much more informative , except when Zaidman fills in . All in all I just don't understand the logic or fascination with the Schambi hire . So disappointed !

I, also, was pleased when I heard the news in 2021 that the Cubs had chosen Boog over Chris "Empty Suit" Meyers.
However, it's been four years, and Boog has simply not fully taken on the role of "Voice of the Cubs", and I think he never will. Part of it is h, part of it is Marquee seemingly wanting him to be a polished, national "corporate" broadcaster, but whoever's fault it is, it's not good when I turn on a game and say "oh, Beth Mowins is filling in today! Nice!"...much less the joy of a Pat Hughes fill-in day.

The Booger will never be an elite Cubs broadcaster! I was definitely never a fan of Boog since he started his first year with the Cubs. Len Kasper was a very good Cubs broadcaster. I am blessed to be old enough to watch Cubs games with legendary broadcaster like Jack Brickhouse and Harry Carey and who could ever fault the love Ron Santo had for the team. The Boog needs to leave and simply call games on ESPN or FOX or wherever because as you both said he is simply not a Cubs man. He annoys me and I am much older than you and older than Boog as well so I do not feel the need to watch my words. Pat Hughes and Ron Coomer are both great Cubs callers and I wish they were on Marquee instead of Boog. I really do not mind having Jim Deshaies in the booth since he can give an actual pitcher's perspective. I simply question the entire existence of Marquee but that is from an older fan used to watching the Cubs on WGN for most of my life.

Len Kasper's nasal voice I couldn't take. He's good on the radio, however, for some reason. Not a Boog guy at all - for the Cub. He's good away from the Cub though.

Kasper was great. He had emotion you could feel his excitement. Granted the team was much more exciting then.

The Cubs have the worst announcers in baseball. The TV announcers crap all over baseball traditions and the radio announcers like laughing at people who are incontinent.

Boog CAN BE and COULD HAVE BEEN a great intimate voice of the Cubs. His jovial nature and great calling could've been a modern day-Harry. But his continued connection to ESPN, effing off on Sundays to go do Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN-Radio, and just missing alot of dates in favor of other things or days off. When Pat fills in, it makes you wonder why Pat (or Ron for that matter) don't just do double-duty and be the full-time TV & Radio team simultaneously like the old school did. Beth... shouldn't even be in the chat. These are the reasons why I defended the Sox when they let Benetti go. Too many days off, and what made it worse is Len Kasper & Steve Stone were BETTER on-air than Benetti. Pick a lane guys, and be the voice for your team, and stop trying to be free agents constantly.
EDIT: Just wanna say they should've never let Chip Caray & Steve Stone walk in 2004. They were the voices of the future post-Harry. They'd still be doing it today if it wasn't for HOW HONEST THEY WERE. People forget they were ran off for how critical they were with the lackadaisical nonsense on that 2004 team that cost the team the playoffs.

Boog sucks he talks about everything but the team he was hired to cover .Boog is a national baseball announcer .I'd rather have Pat Hughes a real lover of the Cubs ,TV announcers we have are brutal..
