These fellas are extremely underrated. I hate that most people don't talk about them when discussing great vocal groups. The way Darnell switches from belting the leads to dropping back into the falsetto in the background is amazing.
@@JamaalABivens I'll just say when compared to B2M jodeci and Htown maybe even Troop Shai wasn't as strong Vocally they were better than troop but shai was only known for baby im yours and Comforter. They could sing don't get me wrong but when compared nah.. and ole boy the ladies like in the group was just that the "ladies man" he wasn't the best Vocally in the group
@@ipittythefool79 I agree with you to some extent. They definitely blew up from the song "If I Ever Fall In Love" but I think their image was too clean for that particular time period. Jodeci and H-Town and even Boyz II Men from their first album had a particular look and sound that captivated the ladies, while Shai focused primarily on the vocals. Not sure why they didn't catch on because they definitely were in the same vocal class as Portrait and in some ways Boyz II Men. On vocals alone they, collectively, were better than Jodeci and H-Town but they didn't have a standout leader like those groups, I guess. 🤷🏾
@@JamaalABivens I got you.. but in the same class vocally as B2M and jodeci no sir no by a long shot.. listen to the listen to the harmony arrangements it's easier to mimic shai than it would be BSM of jodeci say for a local r@b group that does cover songs.. nothing complicated about shai.. B2M and jodeci or even AZ yet would take skill and practice.. I wouldn't put Shai with 112 either.. just listen to live arrangements.. They were good.. But to be mentioned among the top vocal groups imo nah

I could just picture him right now, singin' that line to me as he rubs my back. Aww man that would be so sweet if I could meet him one day! I bet he's quite a sweet guy! I wonder what he's doin' now.
