    1. Check out urisa.org and your state URISA chapter. They will know what local GIS user groups there are in your geography.
    2. Be prepared to do remote work during this time.
    3. Budgets are thin for state and local governments and it is really easy for them to slash money for internships. You may have to accept a non-paying internship or seek out internships / temporary work with private companies.

I've just checked out the website and it looks like there are three membership categories, the student price is very reasonable, the regular price is not. I fit the young professional membership as I just graduated this year with a Master's yet this membership is restricted to people 35 years or younger. I'm 37. Is there anyone to who I or others can reach out to about being an older graduate but not yet a professional in GIS to still take advantage of the lower pricing? The reason that I say this is that I've tried groups like these in the past and have resulted in paid work, but I paid for their services. I do not think that most of these groups are worth the money until I see some form of metrics of the usefulness of the group with finding work.

@@jazzmann1984 I suggest that you contact URISA and the Vanguard Cabinet about your concerns. The VC is URISA's young professional group. Check out the website for more info on the VC.

Great video, it is so difficult to find RUclips channels about GIS other than the Esri videos. I'm international student from the GIS program at Brookhaven college and I can tell how difficult is to find opportunities as a foreigner. I only have six months left to get an internship before I finish the associate degree in GIS, but I haven't any luck yet.

How are you applying? Are you providing a digital portfolio?

@@KatieScheurer I'm not sure how to build a good portfolio, I create products related to the classes that I take every semester but the jobs that I found I could apply didn't require them, also because I am international student the number of jobs I am able to apply is very restricted. My best attend was a position in the GIS department of the city of Allen in TX, I had a call interviewed and another one in the office, I managed to be in the last 3 candidates but I was let out at the end.
