I have the yellow one, and I beleive it is a fake as well, because I applied it on an old oxidised pad to tin, but couldn't until I used a real flux that looks brown as a resin.
I just checked the one I recently bought and it’s white as well with “aethentic” written on the label. Now I fear it might be fake. Should I be worried? Have you continued using it during the last year?
They are all fake. Same with 99% of the Amtech flux being sold online. Who even owns/makes kingbo? I wanna say I remember reading back in the day there was a real japanese company behind it at one point, but they went out of business or something and stopped. But I could be misremembering things.
Mine is also white. Never had the yellow. Then I've seen comments on certain AliExpress listings complaining that the picture shows white Kingbo flux, but they got yellow Kingbo flux. So it might very well be the other way round, that the yellow is fake and the white is original. Or they simply changed recipe. I guess it'll be difficult to find out without, at least, knowing who the manufacturer is.
It's possible both are 'original', just made by two different manufacturers. Or perhaps they change the recipe depending on where they plan to sell the product. It's nice to know you are used to the white version and it's not so uncommon as I first thought. Have you had any problems with it?
Are you sure? Both tubes have an hologram sticker. The white one says 'Aethentic mark' and the cream one says 'Authentic mark'. That's no guarantee of course but to me it suggests the cream one is the original.
My Kingbo-218 is more yellow, I think you call it a darker one. I've got it from TheCod3r's comment on the flux. And I bought 1 x from eBay and 2x in one order from Ali. So, for me is this one as real.
measure the flux conductivity. if that is around 10-20 Mohm - that's fake. there are also many other features. good kingbo is not too smoky (less smoky than 559).
I dropped a pea sized blob and checked for resistance it moved from 20-30 Mohm depending on how far my probes were apart. It's more than likely fake. I still have loads left.😒
@@PhilipBryden I bought just one syringe of kingbo from ali to test about a week ago. and that was a nearly transparent very viscose gel that I hardly squeezed out. utter crap. doesn't solder well. if yours does solder decently, just use it for non-bga soldering and wash with ipa. no big deal really. all your stash will go.
@@kiwichess I bought ten tubes lol. It's a bit stinky but it does solder ok. I should probably pick up a branded tube of something decent for when I'm working on something really nice, and keep this kingo for day to day fixes.
@@PhilipBrydenwow. 10pc purchase from ali is a hell of a risk lol. I usually buy one small tube and see if that works. I know the the temptation to buy 10pc with price slightly higher than 1 tube, but if the flux doesn't work well.. btw, you can sell the tubes in the local market.
Interesting video. I would say the Ali Express stuff is fake looking at the quality of the label. If it is working for general soldering jobs, then that’s great and should save you some money. I would guess that it might perform worse in a higher heat situation or if you needed to sort some shorts out whilst micro soldering.
Both work fine but the white is slightly worse in my experience. As to validity or genuineness of them, who knows? Haha. It's China. They could both be one or the other or the same as far as genuineness.
Interesting. I should probably buy some branded flux from a reputable supplier and see if I am missing out by using this cheap knock off stuff. Any brand recommendations? In the past I bought some MG chemicals 8341 No Clean Flux Paste, but it's partially solidified in the tube and won't squeeze out.
@@PhilipBryden Amtech 559 no clean is probably the best in game. Buy from official channel or I can recommend northbridgefix as they are one of official distributor.
"blue, yellow, pink. whatever man just keep bringing me that!"
A brightly coloured flux might be a good idea. It would show up easier on the board, so you would know if it needed cleaning off.
😄😄😄 TIGHT TIGHT TIGHT!!!

I've used the flux since the video and haven't had a problem with it. It's definitely fake tho.
What does the hologram sticker say? I saw some with "aethentic" instead of authentic.
The white one says 'Aethentic mark' and the cream one says 'Authentic mark'.
@@PhilipBryden I assume the one with authentic is the original.
@@MrTakohara Yes that would be my conclusion, the darker cream version. It has less smoke than the white one too.
Nice compare with great details
Thank you. I'm glad it seems ok, I have 10 tubes of the stuff lol.

Hi Mr B great to see you back mate ❤️
Thanks, it's good to be back.
Fake or change in the recipe?😊
It did cross my mind that they might have changed the formula. The labels are slightly different but that could be a normal variation.
I just checked the one I recently bought and it’s white as well with “aethentic” written on the label. Now I fear it might be fake. Should I be worried? Have you continued using it during the last year?
I've continued to use it with no issues. You should be fine.

No, at all. Just like you tested. To be honest mine is slightly less white, slightly more transparent. But the difference is minimal.
The company of that name doesn't even exist, so uhh...
My kingbo flux is also white and i have had some from that order for over a year
So this white version isn't a new thing then. Has it been ok to use?
@@PhilipBryden up until your video, i didn't know there was any other kind, so far i have had zero issues with it, works really well
no it isnt lol
the white is actually normally how the real kingbo looks like

That was my thought too, I wonder if this stuff darkens with age or after being left in sunlight.
Can you guide me please where I can find the links from Cod3r?

Time will tell. I have the 'original' tube to compare it too, you never know, I might find the 'fake' one works better lol
Very strange that Philip what a mystery 🤔
I'm not sure who makes Kingbo. It's possible it is made by a few different companies all using the Kingbo brand.
less rosin thats all
Ah I see. That makes sense I suppose.
its so hard tbo the fake amtec i find as good as the real one aswell

I much prefer the darker version. The white one has lots of smoke
