Some details that maybe have gone over your heads. Paul sayin "save your mother even if it kills you" was because he felt guilty about his own mom death and that is why he became an adventurer. This phrase can also implies that Paul wanted Rudeus to fight even if it puts him in a death situation cause Paul would save his son if it comes to that just like he did.
Also in his last moments Paul felt relief seeing Rudy alive and knowing that he was not so useless to his son after all.

@@yuutaasaba3583In the drama CD for Vol 12 it was Paul's PoV. He mentions that he still has a lot to live for, he does regret dying; however the moment he heard Rudy's voice, it gave him a sense of peace and relief that atleast his son is alive.
Paul regrets dying, however accepts it in the end knowing that his son is alive and that he completed his task in reuniting his family.

The (long) university arc made Mushoku Tensei a little too confortable for the watcher, so much that people forgot how that story once was. It's a shame the season is almost finished because the next arc is crazy too, and the one after that.

The reason why Rudy lost focus was because the Hydra went off the script, with one head left, it started to attack "desperately" with the necks of the cut off heads.

He would've seen the necks attacking if he was looking at them but throughout the whole fight, the necks were nothing but a dead weight for the Hydra until they were regenerated.
When a enemy moves at great speeds , many possible futures are shown , that confuses the F*** out of Rudeus , so he was paralyzed not knowing what was happening since the hydra launched a kamikaze attack

@squarepants_ it was because he has the demon eye that it fucked him up. The anime didn't do a good job and has people thinking Rudy slipped up by not focusing... in truth, he was too focused.

They didn’t fully flush everything out Rudy didn’t get “distracted”the hydra actually started lashing out with the stumps of its head and his future sight couldn’t keep up with it so Paul had to save him, also at the beginning of the season Rudy names one of his arms hulk and the other Hercules he lost the arm he referred to as Hercules. Lastly Paul’s mom died when he was younger and he and his siblings blame him for that because when she was weak she would go outta her way to spend time with him as he was bullied by them. Which is why him asking Rudy to die to save zenith was him speaking to his younger self saying die in order to save your mother. Just clarification and fun facts to clear anything up
thanks, i thought that Rudeus was distracted which was not like him to be in an extreme situation like that. If it was because of all the things that he had to keep count of, then it makes more sense
@@Pinguino2217 Your welcome, a lot of reactors have been pretty upset with him about it so I just wanted to clarify that that’s a animator change from the light novel because funny enough the Anime just passed the manga with this episode they do monthly manga chapters. But Rudy’s physical capabilities are extremely low vs a high class monster like a hydra so even if he was able to react which he wasn’t there’s no way he would of been able to get outta the way with the hydra swinging its heads even the cut off ones around. The hydra also realized that Rudy was the biggest threat out of everyone and targeted him which made it worse
Stuff like this is why I need to read the light novel eventually. As much as I love the animation and music that the anime brings, I constantly see comments like this that give so much more detail to the series

Last episode rudeus during his jogging, he named both his hands hulk and heracles. Then, his left hand was heracles. In greek mitology, heracles dead from hydra's venom. This was a foreshadowing 🫣😭

Rudeus doesn't have the mobility that everyone else has, just to keep that in mind. That's why he constantly needs cover while burning the heads.
I don't blame him really. I blame Paul for all of that. They all told him to let's go back to the inn to think about how they are going to do this. Paul was so in a rush.
Also the hydra last desperate attempt throw them off guard too going on a rampage randomly with the headless necks
The hydra was also legit really smart, the anime didn't depict this the best but you can still tell(it is all really fast so it would be hard anyway tbh). The hydra was caught off guard not being able to regen, tries to start to regen, does the breath attack, and when all that doesn't work it starts using the nubs of it's cut off heads. This last part caught rudy off guard but not paul. That's why he was able to save rudy. Don't forget, this hydra was supposedly a "mythical fairy tail horror" type monster too. Rudy slipping is understandable tbh, and this also goes to show just how much of that guy paul was when it came to adventuring and fighting monsters. Man had A LOT of experience.

Happily she isn't in vegetable state it's just that after being stuck in that magical crystal for long Zenith has gained the ability to read minds however as a side effect of her new power she is in a dream like state where she is not fully awake and not able to actually speak, but thinks she is speaking due to her telepathy
Edit: I also remembered that in future Roxy and Rudeus will have a baby that can use telepathy and that baby will be able to communicate with Zenith

@@minooooo3574 she in state like a baby and stuck in that state she just a body without a cognitive ability to grow. the reason is because she stuck in the crystal for too long if we counted from the accident it would be 10 years i guess, the crystal became poisonous to her mind i mean mana is a concentrated energy that rely on human consciousness for her to get drained by that crystal for ten year her mind just couldnt hold it.

The production almost def wasn't taking this into consideration but them noticing how close the episode would fall onto fathers day it's absolutely reasonable to believe that week delay was to get this episode to land on fathers day, and it wasn't just a coincidence of them needing a week to touch things up a few episodes ago. Rudy is unable to use battle aura, it was something that was focused on in the light novel and manga but neglected in the anime, he's not capable of doing the same inhuman feats as paul and elinalise, he's weaker physically and he has much slower physical speed and reaction time, if the hydra didn't have its mana scales that first stone cannon would have decimated it.
Something that always bothered me. Its clear that one the head is cut off, or a wound is made through the skin, that it then becomes vulnerable to magic in that spot. Instead of cauterizing the wound, why not use his ultimate attack there and shoot through its whole body? Thats a legit 1shot.
@@captaincannabis3321would need some insane angle to get his stone canon throught the whole body and even it did It would heal in no time, a Hydra dies only after losing all of it's heads.

Also heard from some LN readers that the shield against magic consumed a lot of mana, if Rudy would have had a battle of attrition with the hydra, he would ultimately win because of his larger mana pool
In regards to the battle aura, Rudy is basically a glass cannon. Hits hard but very fragile

Paul was really him
Paul wasnt a good father and he knew it himself, for those that read about this series know. Paul had a terrible father as well but he still did everything he could to not be like him and try to be good in his own way (like most of us). In the end he was there for his family when rudy needed him the most and that is why he died with a smile because he had no regret leaving his family in the hand of his elder son who was is pride and joy. This was heartbreaking seeing in the anime and reading about it. they did justice to Paul in this episode. It was a well writing character there once again from this series.

32:08 Rudeus is strong, just not overpowered. The only few things that could make him "overpowered" is his very deep mana pool and chantless casting, with the demon eye he received being more of a bonus as it eats a lot of mana to see a few more secs into the future, that it only works for him because he has the mana pool and it being only practical in certain scenarios. Also, there is one important reason as to why Rudeus might feel slow or not as responsive/reflexive as Paul or even half of Elinalise, despite having a trained body, which I'll omit for now in case they discuss it next week. Though honestly this certain weakness of his has already been touched upon multiple times in the novel at this point in the story that I don't understand why they haven't talked about it or introduced it as something that's been existing since the start. This "weakness" of his should be mentioned in the next episode since the LN did so, or else I'll get more frustrated from them omitting this for some unknown reason.

In Mushoku, all warrior and swordman at high level (sometime even mage) has something call Battle Aura, which boost their physical status, make them faster, stronger and more durability. Most of those born with the Laplace Factor are inherently unable to wear Battle Aura, and it tends to be weak even for those who can. That why Rudeus, the one doesn't has it, can fast enough to dodge the Hydra attack.

Rudeus is absolutely stronger than Paul. You gotta think about it. He is a mage, and he is fighting someone that is magic resistant and requires him to engage in close combat. If Paul fought someone that was resistant to physical attacks he would be in the same boat as rudy.
The hydra was resistant to physical attacks, that's why Elinalise couldn't cut off a head. The only reason Paul was able to sever the heads is that his shorter sword essentially has a special effect: the harder something is to cut, the better it gets at cutting. Basically, Paul had an op sword and enough skills to use it since he knows all 3 of the major sword styles.

rudeus can be strong, he could became stronger but he already stop learning intensely while at academy arc because he just want to live ordinary like normal people, he just sees it not worth it to waste his time to became stronger

This episode was nuts. It was one of the best episodes from an anime this year.
I knew that Paul was going to die since I have read the novels but seeing everything animated hits me in a different and painful way, not to mention that the way Paul fought, cutting off the heads of the hydra without hesitation, you can tell that he was a great warrior. and very powerful, rest in peace Paul. 💔💔💔💔💔💔

Even being gutted emotionally, I appreciate the fact they released that episode on Father's Day. It serves as a reminder of how badass dads should, and can be for their kid(s). It saddens me that a lot of kids out there never experience good parents.

Rudy named his Left Arm Hercules some episodes ago, and he lost his arm to a Hydra. (Hercules died to Hydra Poison). Carzy foreshadowing
it was a great episode, amazing but like every anime adaptation from a light novel, it has things skipped or not said that makes the scenes with more sense, like in the novels everything is really good explained. So first and without any spoiler, the Hydra was really smart and that makes the fight even more difficult. Paul had two sword when before he only uses one, now one can cut through hard things easily but can't cut "softer" things and that's why he uses the other that can do that, so he really was talking about his swords haha and the two had different roles, still weird comparing women to sword but is such a Paul's thing to say. That's why he also can cut through the Hydra's neck easily while Elinasile with her magic sword couldn't. Now something the anime never explained is that swordmen can really do some superhuman things, their mobility is really something else compared to mages, there is also something called "touki" that swordmen at certain level can use to make their bodies even stronger, faster and more durable. In that moment when everything went wrong, what really happen is that the Hydra started to heavily focused Rudeus and even more aggressively than ever. The Hydra uses all his severed necks to attack and also making difficult to everyone to cover Rudeus who physically can't avoid or defend himself from the attacks easily. Also the future vision eye of Rudeus went crazy, seeing all the necks and the giant body of the Hydra moving so much in present and also in future makes for an instant impossible to distinguish what was happening so Rudeus went into confusion. The necks attacks makes everyone tried to cover themselves or Roxy so no one could reach Rudeus in time when the Hydra attacked him, also Rudeus couldn't avoid it not only from the confussion from his eye that play wrong to him but also because he physically couldn't, he is a mage, not a swordmen and is not able at all to use touki, one of his most big deficiences and weaknesses. Paul could react so he went immediatly to kick Rudeus out to the way but that kick also stopped Paul in the place so he was the one recieving the Hydra's attack. It was a thing of one second, if Paul would just run and push Rudeus with his body and follow the momentum with him the both would be avoided that attack, but because of the short time Paul just could kick Rudeus out of the way, that kick stopped the momentum of Paul and signed his death warrant. It was the danger of having a mage in a close combat with a giant monster with so much range of attack and they had to pay the price for just a matter of one second.
So yeah, withing Rudeus weaknesses we saw a bunch of them in this fight, that he is physically inferior to most warrior and swordmen in "normal state", that unless them he can't use touki at all so no body reinforcement. Other weakness that we saw even before is that he can't use silent healing magic at all, he has to say the enchantment because he can't really comprehend how healing magic really works. If the Hydra wouldn't resist magic and forced Rudy to close combat everything would be different.

The pov of that moment wasn't shown in the anime, but he was confused about what he saw in his eye of foresight, his entire vision being covered by the hydra's attack, and froze on the spot because of it.
Paul is really that dude it's crazy to think that ghislaine is even stronger than him since she's a sword king they could have definitely used her help here

Amazing episode the crazy thing is Paul was often down on himself for being a bad dad to Rudeus. He failed him a lot after the incident he snapped when he first saw him and wasn’t even glad he was alive until after his actions. So Paul instinctively saving rudeus shows he truly did think of him as a son and himself as the father despite all his short comings. In the end when Paul passes he lays eyes on rudeus and sees he is well and breathing and he smiles because he was able to save his precious son with a fatherly act finally making him feel like he could help rudeus.
Paul is the goat, he is an S rank adventurer and Advanced tier in all 3 of the sword styles. Plus one of his swords is magical which makes it do more damage to enemies with high defense, probably the main reason he was the only one there who could decapitate the hydra.

Yo if it didn’t have regen Paul could have soloed the hydra. Honestly Paul is such an amazing character. So many ppl hated him and when I started the series I couldn’t understand why, he lost his family, took care of his daughter on his own, helped others, saved slaves, all while caring for his daughter and the fear and pressure that the rest of his family was most likely dead. For years, I can’t possibly imagine that stress, or being able to do half the things he did. And I found out his mother died and he regretted not being able to save her. So when he told rudues save her even if you die. He meant take this serious, and he didn’t want him to suffer the way he did. And in the end he would never let rudues die, rip and happy Father’s Day

Rudy is strong, he "might" win against Paul 1v1.
But Paul is both strong and experienced. Rudy wasn't experienced, people needed to guide him in the dungeon since the beginning, that sadly meant that others needed to look out for Rudy along the way. Rudy was stronger than Roxy too like you said at the end of the video and also faster with his spells, but Roxy was still more experienced.
But if it weren't for Rudy, then they wouldn't have known about the book, they wouldn't had rescued Roxy, they wouldn't had reached the last floor, and they wouldn't be able to beat Hydra since they needed Rudy spells to burned the Hydra too as inexperienced as he was and Rudy was the one that learned about the Hydra weakness too. The cost of achieving all that just happened to be Paul death and Rudy hand sadly since Paul died in order to save Rudy at the end.
So in general, Rudy was the real MVP. But in terms of just that Hydra fight alone, Paul was the MVP with Rudy at second since he was strong enough to cut Hydra while experienced enough to also look out for himself and others at the same time.
At this point in time, Rudy is a better swordsman than Paul? I struggle to believe that maybe in future sure but I’ve never seen Rudeus move like Paul this episode

@@Oakland510swordsman? definitely not a better swordsman. you can’t really compare the two. rudy takes the role of a mage. paul takes the role of a swordsman. they are two entirely different roles DESPITE the fact that when rudy was born paul and zenith decided to have him trained in both magic and swordsmanship, but he is much more proficient in the former. Original commenter meant their strength and experience levels generally, relative to the other. Mages are generally more *powerful* than swordsmen (as they have access to a plethora of destructive and non-destructive magical abilities of many different ranges) but often they lack speed and stamina. Swordsmen are lethal at close range but often against few targets at a time. Their physical attributes are often greater than that of mages and are generally quicker and stronger and have more stamina, though it’s worth mentioning rudy has quite an impressive physique to be a mage and has the eye of foresight. Paul has way more experience than Rudy, it’s not even close even at this point of story. How one relates how “powerful” someone is to their strength, speed, range, stamina, ability to do damage in an area, intelligence, experience, etc., is up in the air.
@@amonzi8646 Yea, I also don't think Rudy is a better swordsmen. Although Rudy did beat someone with a sword, I think that's just because he was physically stronger and because of his eyes, not because his experienced. And Paul is both stronger and experienced when it terms to swords.
So I totally agree with that. Rudy is a strong mage, and Paul is a strong swordsmen. When I said stronger on the comment, I never even mentioned swordsmen though, never mentioned physically either, so I'm surprised I got complaint about that. Lol XD

In the LN when Rudy has to be saved by Paul it is explained that he wasn't able to understand what was happening because the Hydra started to go crazy lashing out at random and his demonic eye was showing him what was going on, but the Hydra was way too big to make sense out of what it was doing, that's when Paul goes and takes the hit instead of him. I feel like here they made it look like he was way too distracted
Another thing is that paul used his battel aura when he kicked rudy, if it was just a physical kick without battle aura paul would have went back cuz of recoil which is why rudy was at first confused why paul got struck

people need to understand that rudy is slow and a glass canon at that. his weaknesses and lack of experience shows in this labyrinth exploration. . Now he don't rujierd and eris to tank for him. The weakest link of the group. I remember rujierd said this in the great forest that rudy often let his guard down on a fight. To add, Ghislaine mention rudy tends to overthink in a fight (battle against hydra with last head) he's not distracted but overthink lol. Demon eye can see 3-4 secs it can't move you faster enough. Just watch again orsted vs the gang rudy became a security guard in a mall becoz it's show to many scenarios

Rudeus can't use touki so even if he can see to the future if it's too fast he can't react to it.
Rudeus letting his guard down for a second cost him and the last desperate attacks of the hydra using his headless necks at the end throw them off.
Rudy was using his demon eye at the moment Paul saved him, but couldn’t process wtf was happening because the hydra was freaking the fuck out since it was almost dead. So Rudy was actually locked in, but it’s the same thing like with Orsted, he saw what was gonna happen but couldn’t react/ couldn’t process it in time since he’s a mage and usually fights from far away, but had to stay close up this fight so that the fire magic actually worked against the hydra. Also probably all happened in like 5 seconds, so rudy really couldn’t do anything since he’s not fast like Paul.
The fact Paul wasn't able to see his wife again, he wasn't able to see his grandchild, or see rudeus grow up all the way because don't forget rudeus is around 16 still so he still could have a little bit of growing to do. It's really just so fucked up man and it hurts me because something about Paul reminds me of my own father and I don't know what it is in it just really hurts my soul that he died.
Episode 22 hits so much harder when you realize they aired it on Father's Day.

damn this episode hit hard... I really thought Rudy was alot more experienced than this though... he saw the Hydra had only 1 head left and got careless... not once but twice mid combat... Guess the Man god was right.. Rudy will regret coming here... I wonder if Paul and the party would have just given up on finding zenith had rudy not come and found that entrance to the boss...

There is a Mushoku Tensei CD Drama Volume 12. This have Paul's final thoughts before he smile and dead. I think it add more impact and feelings and you will like to listen. Sad :/
The anime skipped the explanation of paul's swords, he has a magic sword that gets sharper the harder the object is and another sword for regular use.

Paul wasn’t the most complex character but he was such a well written character. This might be the first time in awhile where a characters death kind of hit me hard 😂 We were finally able to gauge his power and he definitely lived up to the Greyrat name. RIP.

Hopefully he learns from the experience and betters himself so it doesn't to anyone else he cares about. Paul was a dps warrior, dual wielding, he played the part well!
Clarification on why Rudy lost focus for a moment: It was very brief in the anime but the hydra started flailing it's headless necks around like crazy attacking everybody causing everyone to need to defend themselves and Rudy was trying to use his Eye of Foresight but had trouble due to the randomness of the hydra's attacks which caused him to be mentally stunned for a split second.
That last hydra head was specifically aiming for rudeus i dont even think its his faul he won't be able to even shield himself
