      Graphics are simply icing on the cake. A game can have the greatest graphics ever, but if the games sucks, who cares?
      Go play Xenoblade Chronicles or RE:Revelations on 3DS and tell me the graphics suck.
      There are literally over 50 RPG titles for DS/3DS with a rating of over 80. All time classics, to the latest and greatest. You can get a brand new 2DSXL for $120. The battery lasts over 10 hours. The Switch? Maybe 150 minutes? Its a no brainer if you’re a fan of RPGs.

    I've been a hardcore Fire Emblem fan for a very long time now. I received Fire Emblem on the GBA for xmas in 2003 with me being a junior in high school, and I fell in love immediately. As soon as The Sacred Stones came out I bought it. I even downloaded all the japanese released for the snes that had fan translations and played all of those too. Fire Emblem Awakening was such a fantastic game, and it really brought the series to a whole new level of exposure, and that is a good thing. The Birthright series is stellar as well, not to mention the Gamecube and Wii games all being awesome. This series is very close to my heart, and I'm able to start a new game in any of them at any time and instantly be sucked back in. Great video man!

      I'm happy to read a "veteran" giving praise to Awakening. I know opinions will be opinions but it's disheartening for folks like me who started with Awakening. I thought it was a fantastic game. Upon finishing it and then looking up reviews I was shocked at how the reviewers praised it but the comment section was bashing it from being too easy or not feeling like a traditional FE game. Of course there are still plenty of people who love Awakening and it sold great which makes me happy. It just sucks seeing the old school players bashing this gem of a game.

  • @ResonantArc
    @ResonantArc  11 лет назад +3

    Yes, but keep in mind that I'm on my 4th playthrough now. If, on one playthrough, you were to do everything - recruit every character, unlock all support conversations, play all the DLC and Street Pass maps, etc., there is easily 50-60 hours for one go.

  • @ResonantArc
    @ResonantArc  11 лет назад +3

    I play pretty equally between 2D and 3D. The great thing about the 3DS is that it has a slider for the 3D effect, so it can be as strong or as weak as you're comfortable with. If you find that with a certain game the 3D effect on full blast is too strong or makes you see double, then just slide it back until it feels good. My eyes have never hurt from playing the 3DS, but there are times when I don't want to hold my 3DS at an angle that will work for 3D, so I just turn it off in those cases.

    I completely agree with you. Like as a person who isn't really into rpg THAT much (I play a few but not very often) I was skeptical at first. I was not at all interested in it. Recently my boyfriend showed it to me. My God(s), I was immediately sucked into it. I played it for days, I even restared it a few times. This is the one game that made me torn, part of me wants a continuation of THIS game like with the same characters and all that, but at the same time I was satisfied with it's ending. I cry just thinking about it. Loved it 10/10

    That feeling you speak of in relation to Chrono Trigger, Ocarina of Time (more Majora's Mask for me personally), FF7, Shadow of the Colossus, etc. was given to me this generation by two specific franchises: Shin Megami Tensei, and the Souls series. If anyone is mildly interested in either, pick them up immediately! Regarding SMT, I am mainly talking about Persona 3 & 4, the latter of which I completed 3 times back-to-back-to-back without stopping, playing the damn game for like +150 hours or some obscene number. Never since FF7 had I been as giddy for a game as I was for Persona 4 Golden, and I could not put it down. Even though it technically came out on the PS2 before the PSVITA, it came out in 2008, which is well into the PS3/XBOX360/Wii era. I, however, didn't play it until like 2013 on the Vita, but regardless, it was hands down my favorite game of the last generation.

      +StickySock I really need to play Persona 4...

    • @RoyalBabble
      @RoyalBabble 8 лет назад

      +Dark Pixel Gaming I don't know if you've played Persona 3, Devil Survivor, Digital Devil Saga, Devil Survivor, or the main series before, but I want to clarify a few things for you just in case you try Persona 4 and it isn't your thing (this goes for anyone who may be reading).
      1. The tone of the story and characters is very different between Persona 3 and 4, to the point that some people who like 3 don't like 4 (I like both and slightly prefer 4, although 3 is the much darker game).
      2. The difficulty varies a lot between these branches of the SMT franchise. The mainline games such as 3 (Nocturne) and 4 are extremely hard and tell very dark, plot-heavy stories.Persona games are much easier and more character-driven, and Digital Devil Saga & Devil Survivor I feel is a mix between SMT and Persona.
      3. I would still start with Persona 4, but if you are craving something darker and slightly more challenging, go to Persona 3, and work your way to the main series from there. If you don't really like Persona 4 at all because of its easier difficulty and lighter story (i.e. you're needing something super hardcore), I would recommend trying the mainline SMT games and working toward the easier side from there.
      4. This franchise as a whole (all branches included) are the dark, mature, excellently written, and expertly crafted RPG series you never knew you NEEDED in your life. If you've never played SMT but you like RPGs, play one as soon as possible!

    • @Kelpie9423
      @Kelpie9423 8 лет назад

      +StickySock I started smt games with persona 3 and my oh my did I stumble into a glorious franchise. Those games deserve way more recognition. Especially the mainline smt games in particular.

    This is a pretty good review! I really enjoyed this game, but as a long-time Fire Emblem fan, one thing you said does bug me a little bit.
    Fire Emblem Awakening, while the first game to overtly advertise them as a feature, didn't actually introduce Supports. If you want to get super technical, they started in Mystery of the Emblem on the Super Famicom, but the more well-known variant that builds support rank through conversations was introduced in the sixth title, Binding Blade, which is the first on the GBA.
    It's very forgivable for someone playing without any sort of guide to be totally unaware of supports in the GBA entries, though, since the game itself does basically nothing to tell you about them and the requirement for building relationship points (towards a higher point requirement than is necessary to unlock the conversations in Awakening) is having them be on adjacent tiles at the end of the player phase, unlike in Awakening where just entering battle next to the other unit or using a staff on them is sufficient.

    This game is perfect omg Ive been wanting a game like this to come out for YEARS a game that changes as you play, with different story lines off of the main story, where characters develop relationships instead of already knowing each other and your thrown into it with out knowing whats going on. at first yes it was confusing but once i got into the game the beginning explains itself over time, it makes you actually want to play it and explore instead of just run through the story. forget 5/5 i give it a 100/5 i want more games like this :D!!!

    There is a local co-op multiplayer mode where each player chooses three units. No online co-op to my knowledge. You can create a street pass team that can be shared with other players, and you can also receive other players' street pass teams to battle on your world map. Those street pass teams are controlled by the computer though.

    If you're considering picking it up, there's never been a better time. Awakening is both geared at veterans and newcomers alike. Now, to answer your question, as for me (a fairly new FE player) I don't find the strategic gameplay to be overly difficult. There's also a demo on the 3ds eshop so if you truly want to try before you buy, you can there. Hope I was a help.

    also i am pretty experienced with tactical jRPGs, i have over 300 hours spent on Disgaea 2, 30 hours+ on Jeanne D'arc, over 120 hours on P4G on PSVITA. im not saying these games are particulary difficult, but would you suggest playing FEA with permadeath enabled on my first playthrough? i like sticky situations, thats why i always play games on hardest difficulties, but are frusrations over losing favorite character permanently worth the cake?

    • @ResonantArc
      @ResonantArc  10 лет назад

      Yeah, if you play a lot of tactical jRPGs I'd play it on Hard with Permadeth on :) as for your 60fps question... I don't really know. It didn't seem that way from what I can remember when I was playing the game. It looked more like 30 to me.

It is fulfilling to lose a battle, then train your characters by fighting more side battles and see your characters trash your foes when you go back to the main quest.

I thought it was going to be an adventure game similar to Zelda. I was really disappointed to find out that it was a tile based strategy rpg. However, once I played the game for maybe two hours I was hooked. These games are so excellent that they will make you forget that you don't like strategy rpgs.

    Love your reviews man, as mentioned in the previous comment.

    Funny thing about this game is that if it didn't sell over the target point Nintendo made this would be the last of the FE series. Lucky it sold huge and got over the goal so we will be seeing more!

    I had an idea for a fire emblem style game with the MII's as characters but their implementation would probably work better in a different genre.

      I think the Miis are too goofy for such an emotional game tho.

    Bought a vita and 3ds xl in the past 2 months, i like playing rpgs on handhelds for some reason. Bought personia 4, ys, ffx-x2, and dragons crown for vita and bravely default, zelda a link between words, fire emblem, and got a m&l dream team 3ds xl so i got that game free( really enjoyed it more than i thought i would) there are still plenty of rpgs i want for the 3ds. But personia 4 golden been my fav so far but i never played it on ps2 so its all new to me. And im loving bravely default its a good ff game thats not ff. just bought fire emblem today getting ready to open it. But im having more fun with the handhelds right now than my other consoles and gaming pc.

      Chad Hay so what do you think about it?

    • @ChadKenova
      @ChadKenova 7 лет назад +1

      well its a great handheld that doesnt get enough love and with the arrival of the switch im sure it will get even less. But it has enough good games to warrant a purchase in my opinion. I think the last 2 games i bought for it was odin sphere and the legend of heroes cold steel and both are great games. But its just indie games and some jrpgs that come out for it now and im fine with that no more aaa games like uncharted or killzone which really pushed the hardware and looked great for the power they had to work with. i picked up a switch on launch and it will be my main handheld now i just hope they can get more games on it soon. But damn breath of the wild is awesome i think ive put about 25 hours in and im not close to doing everything. But i hope theres a vita 2 and more people buy it. And i still love the 3ds its the handheld i have the most games for but man the games are really looking dated now and no Bluetooth, hell switch supports it but u cant use headphones for some reason. i fill nintendos gonna start putting most of the effort into the switch and we've only had one game that supports the new 3ds xenoblade chronicles not sure why they haven't made anymore for the new hardware and maybe the last monster hunter game was but i could be wrong. ive just always liked handheld its nice to sit on the couch or chair and play a game.

    i know this kind of thing doesnt really matter for tactical RPGs, but does this gamer run on 60 fps? i heard most of 3ds games run pretty smooth compared to PSVITA.

      Sometimes when you use a powerful spell with a high-level mage there will be a drop, but I'm pretty sure it stays in the 30-60 range for the most part.

      DoomDash Yeah ironically I had the same thought. I mean the game is chess. LILTERALLY just chess how can it be fun? And even like that this game surpassed my expectations and this chess is just way too fun and addicting, much more than the original one. I think it's definetely worth it. Oh and in case you don't know there's also a demo for it, although the demo doesn't give the whole game enough credit

    Every fire emblem game tells a different story. Each game takes place at different points of the world's history. Ike was the main character of Fire Emblem Path of Radiance.

    I agree with everything about what you said. Except one thing. This game could have been the best game ever in my opinion if it had the VS multiplayer. It easily could have got a community behind it like pokemon for example. I am so so SO dissapointed that this was not implemented. I really hope it is next time.

      That's my same exact thought. Multiplayer 1vs1 could have been the detail to elevate this into one of the greatest games ever made. Or at least in the genre.
