Great video, as always. I've been fortunate to purchase some high end gear over the years, but I've played what I bought against other brands, and what I own just feels/sounds like home to me. I have a PRS Custom 24 (love the 85/15 pickups!), a DW Collector's Series maple kit, a Warwick Corvette $$, and my newest addition I've wanted for years, a Music Man Stingray 5 Special HH. In my humble opinion, these are some of the best instruments available, and it doesn't hurt that they all look great, too... Thanks, Phil!

huh. a guitar gear reviewer from outside Australia even knows about Cole Clark, let alone how damn good they are? upvote right there. the company was only 2-3 years old when i got mine. it's held up remarkably well considering it's a 12 string. Chase Vønn depends on what it is you do. People hate them because people who buy Gibson generally are blues guitarists who want a 50s or 60s les paul reissue. They NEED to update their guitars and get people excited, and they just keep failing at attracting new fans. They are losing BAD to esp and literally every other brand there is, because they keep doing a shit job with marketing and innovation. It isn’t all their fault, part of it is that the people who are buying Gibson now don’t want a modern guitar, but they are doing a poor job at appealing to both audiences, like fender is

I actually loved my Greta. I kind of regret selling it. One, it could plug into a cabinet and would give a really great sound at a lower volume, second, it had a very fun tone when played through the tiny speaker, and three, the mini-jack input sounded really cool for tube toned sound for music playback, four, it has an output where you can use it as pre-amp which was really, really cool. Especially old school jazz and blues sounded really cool through the mini-jack. I think another reason why I liked it so much is that back when I started to play had a small tube radio that my father altered so I could plug my guitar into and it had a really cool bedroom-level tube driven sound. The Greta really captured that experience.

I have a 130w Fender Cybertwin. its a solid state that models other fender amps (Deluxe Reverb, Bassman, Bandmaster, etc.) but still has the gain, bass, treble, mids, reverb, and presence knobs, along with side treats like an on board tuner, noise gate, and 4 preset channels controlled with a four way footswitch. love it, its my number one gig amp and very unknown and underrated.

RE: EHX Crying Tone - I've not used one, but the idea of a foot-operated pedal that had no real moving parts, hence no crackle, no repairs, and nothing mechanical to go wrong, was immensely appealing. The pivot-point was that it was largely incompatible with the pedalboard mentality. If it was 1978, and a gig setup consisted of a wah, fuzz, Uni-Vibe or phaser, and maybe an octave pedal on the floor, held together by patch cables, no one would have batted an eye at the Crying Tone's physical format. But that's a complaint from a person who gigs and needs to carry their setup around, plunk the pedalboard on the floor, and have it just work straight away. In a studio, it's a different world for the most part. So, not a BAD pedal or idea, just not fully compatible with the market needs.

@@lueysixty-six7300 Sorry, I realize I was quite vague. From a clean channel perspective, I think the vintage Fender fans will prefer the 6L6s (to agree with you)... but, this really isn't the amp for them, as not many people buy these amps for the clean channel. I was referring to channels 2 and 3 - the dirty channels. Channel 2 in particular has that classic 80s Marshall crunch that I grew up with (been playing since 1983). The midrange too, which I find better for leads versus the 6L6s (just seems to make my leads pop through more). To your point, 6L6s are known to be a bit cleaner sounding, with less break up. That would be appealing to the Fender crowd for sure (especially those that stick to the clean channel), but the 6L6 models also seem to be preferred by the modern metal guys (especially those that down-tune).

My suggestion to all g force users is to always calibrate the tuners when changing strings even if you are using the same strings gauge or different brand. Amen. There’s a reason the Boden became a modern classic almost immediately. It’s a game changer.
Everybody talks about the design and feel, which is understandable because it’s wacky and striking. But it also sounds goddamn ridiculous. I have the double humbucker model and it’s the most sonically versatile guitar I’ve ever touched. The strandberg stock pickups are fantastic. I switched to a Boden from a really fantastic american deluxe telecaster, and it was a really intuitive transition because the Boden sounds so snappy and bright. It’s not a typical super hot and dark sounding metal guitar. I can’t say enough about the thing, I could go on.
My only complaints are 1) the angled output jack, and 2) on the 6 string the parallel fret is at 0 which makes tight chord shapes high up on the neck difficult to finger even for my small nimble fingers. This would be mitigated had they put the parallel fret at 5, 6, or 7.

Art C never had a problem. Just monitor the battery life. The batt led changes color when the power is low. It lasts a long time. I have a spare but never needed it. They come with a battery and charger. Enjoy.

Another great video Phil. I have to say the absolute best solid state amps I’ve played, as pedal platforms that is, are the DV Mark Eric Gales and Greg Howe heads. They are relatively inexpensive and have enough headroom to keep up with anything you throw at them. Paired with a great cab (DV Mark Frank Gambale 2x12 for example) put them in the same league as many classics. Just for reference I also own a Marshall 62 Bluesbreaker, 59 Fender Bassman and a Vox AC30. With the amp only weighing about 5 pounds and the cab around 20 pounds I find myself using the DV Mark head and cab more than my beautiful sounding combos. Not just because of their back saving qualities, but because they sound great and fill a room with ease. Definitely try out the DV Mark Rawdawg with a DV Mark Frank Gambale cab as a super clean, high headroom pedal platform and you’ll see what I mean. Oh and I’m a humbucker guy, so anything out there about over compressing is truly nonsense. Thanks and keep up the good work my friend.

The tw series is the more afordable one and they have the rocker and Brasil series which are also really good, check out the tw61, it's a jazz master style.

Its getting a Charlie Christian in the neck, adjust the string spacing and installing a bone nut. Im painting out the ugly headstock logo with a LPjr friskit. To make it more expensive I am installing a bigsby. It’s got a nice factory finish and a great neck. Before I bought it a Lollar P-90 was installed. Still under $1k.

      @TrevorTowstego 4 года назад

@@T00DEEPBLUE I'm familiar with the Goliath but that's only really comparable (in my opinion) to the Boden Metal, and maybe some of the Boden Originals. The fans and necks are drastically different, and as far as I know the Goliath GTRs don't come in HSS/HSH configurations or with trems. I think Strandbergs and Ormsby Goliaths are all great guitars but I guess I just don't see them to be as similar as you do.

    • @T00DEEPBLUE
      @T00DEEPBLUE 4 года назад

@@TrevorTowstego Of course they're going to be different. The Goliath's design wouldn't be superior to the Boden's if they were the same. Brandon nailed it.
      1. The fans on the Ormsby guitars take better advantage of the benefits of the multiscale concept.
      2. The pickups on the Ormsby's are angled to match the fan of the neck and the bridge, so that the placement of the pickups are consistent from string to string. This prevents the bridge pickup from getting too muddy on the bass strings due to the bridge pickup being too far away from where the strings terminate at the bridge if the pickups were straight, like on a Strandberg.
      3. And unlike Strandberg's, Ormsby's are not stupidly overpriced. The Sarah Longfield signature Boden is an Indonesian-made copper top Goliath that only costs $300 less than a Custom Shop Ormsby made in Australia.
      Nuff said.

    • @TrevorTowstego
      @TrevorTowstego 4 года назад

      @@T00DEEPBLUE To address your points:
      1. "The fans on the Ormsby guitars take better advantage of the benefits of the multiscale concept."
This would depend on what you mean by the benefits of the multi-scale concept. If you're talking about maintaining tension without having to resort to much heavier gauges of strings, then yes, you're correct. From what I remember, the Strandberg design was originally meant for ergonomic purposes, with the string tension aspect being a bit of an added bonus. I would also add that having a very subtle fan on the Strandberg allows them to have the trem option on their guitars. You can see a similar, but different approach to this on the Ormsby Scarab, which has a subtler fan, allowing it to have a trem. Unfortunately I don't think there have been any Scarab GTRs yet, but hopefully we'll see some in the future!
      2. "The pickups on the Ormsby's are angled to match the fan of the neck and the bridge, so that the placement of the pickups are consistent from string to string. This prevents the bridge pickup from getting too muddy on the bass strings due to the bridge pickup being too far away from where the strings terminate at the bridge if the pickups were straight, like on a Strandberg."
This is definitely a valid point. I would however point out that because the Strandberg fan is much less drastic than the Ormsby Goliath fan, the tonal impact of having straight pickups instead of slanted ones is greatly reduced for the Strandberg. Also, some (but not all) of the Strandberg models do have slanted pickups to match the fan.
      3. "And unlike Strandberg's, Ormsby's are not stupidly overpriced. The Sarah Longfield signature Boden is an Indonesian-made copper top Goliath that only costs $300 less than a Custom Shop Ormsby made in Australia."
The Strandbergs definitely do seem to be pricier than similarly-speced Ormsby GTRs, but unfortunately the GTRs are only available to buy every so often. I was (several months ago) considering getting the Boden Classic 6 Trem model, which is decently-priced. However, I ended up going with something else. But, going back to my original point, I don't think Ormsby offers a similarly-speced model to the Boden Classic 6 Trem, which is why I replied to your original comment to begin with.
I'm not familiar with the pricing on the Ormsby Custom Shop stuff unfortunately! I guess the first thing I would wonder in your comparison is what the starting price of an Ormsby Custom Shop 8-string Goliath with Fishman Fluence pickups is.

I understand this is simply your opinion.
I own a 2015 SG, and I absolutely love it!
I agree about the nut having early wear issues, but Gibson provides a titanium unit, completely free of charge, simply by asking.
Of course it’s never been installed, because I ordered a Tusq nut before I found out about the titanium piece.
I really appreciate how easy it is to set the action at the nut end of the neck.
And I love the Gforce tuning system.
Maybe that makes me a candyass, but this thing makes tuning on the fly a breeze.
    And it works great.
Maybe other people are having issues, but mine seems to be flawless after two years of service, and this is my player 90% of the time.
And lastly, the 1.8” nut is wonderful for large fingers.
I think the real issue is, people want innovation, but when the get it, they complain because the standard has been changed.
    This is my opinion...

Incorrect, they start at 1 and end at zero, so unless the ancient Romans started counting at 0 (which they hadn't quite figured out yet) then a decade is ten years, from 1 to 10 and then 11 to 20 and so on. Objectively this is true.
Also Sunday is the first day of the week. Scientists have proven this objectively with Science.

Aaron Webb, if you start a timer at midnight (sometimes denoted as “00:00” or “12:00 AM”), you don’t say that one hour has passed until the timer reaches 01:00 AM.
Similarly, a decade also represents a duration of time, specifically ten years, and sure of course you could say that the decade starts at 1 and ends at 0, and you could also say it starts at 2 and ends at 1, or heck, if you wanna get real spicy, you can say it starts at 3 and ends at 2. The perception of time is relative.
One reason why many people consider decades to start at 0 and end at 9 because it reflects the development of time from a blank starting point, which is 0 in this case, to the following stage (1, 2, 3, etc.).
The number on the left indicates the starting point, and the number on the right the ending point.
0-1 = The first year has passed.
1-2 = The second year has passed.
2-3 = The third year has passed.
3-4 = The fourth year has passed.
4-5 = The fifth year has passed.
5-6 = The sixth year has passed.
6-7 = The seventh year has passed.
7-8 = The eighth year has passed.
8-9 = The ninth year has passed.
9-10 = The tenth year has passed.
It appears that may be looking at the number on the right side as the starting point, which proves that the perception of time is relative.
It is incorrect to call my claim incorrect because by stating that that is how decades work (starting with 0 and ending with 9) is perhaps the most common collective perception towards a decade.
It that still doesn’t help you see my point, consider the way in which many cultures symbolize numbers.
      0-9 = single digit numbers
      10-19 = teens
      20-29 = twenties
      30-39 = thirties
That is how we often perceive decades.
When someone says, “Metallica was heavier in the eighties than the nineties,” they’re making a subjective acclaim about the perceived heaviness of Metallica between two periods of time: one is known as the eighties (1980-1989); and the other the nineties (1990-1999).
When someone says “I spent my twenties engaging in conversations on RUclips about the perception of decades,” they’re referring to a period of their age, which starts at 20 and ends at 29.
It’s all relative, homie; however, the common perception is that starts with 0 and ends with 9.

@@kevinberstler I really thought my throwaway line at the end made my sarcastic tone clear, but I understand now that we have fallen victim to Poe's Law.
A decade is a lot of ten, yes. Years generally, but not always. And like anything, we can choose to count it starting any way we like (much like the days of the week). If people wanna call 2000 the first year of the new century/millenium, 2010 the start of a decade and Monday the first day of the week, I can't stop them.
Science has conclusively proven them wrong though, using Science, which is a type of Math, so it can't possibly be wrong or subjective at all. After all, if we start counting at 0 then 1 is the second number, and that's just madness, lunacy, a world where everything means nothing and *that's* *where* *anarchists* *come* *from!*

I love my 2015 Les Paul Studio. People hated the robo tuners, the brass nut, the headstock scribble and maybe the neck profile, but the first two are easily replaced, the scribble affects nothing and the neck is a matter of preference (for me it's great). These are pretty minor points, so you can take off maybe 5% of the value of what is otherwise a fantastic guitar. What I really love is that all the hate stopped people buying so I got mine at 30% off the 2014 price. A fantastic guitar for the money!

HI Philip - you chose the Tagima...here in the UK we have the identical guitar under the brand name of Revelation, the model you showed being the RJT60: a Jazzmaster-like guitar with Alan Entwistle's pokey P-90s. I've had one of these, along with several other Revelations, and they're all been great. The same great body and neck is used with a variety of pickups eg RJT60 Quad with 4 single coils, RJT60 H with split coil humbuckers etc. Low cost hasn't meant low quality, and in the case of Revelation great value for the money: their 54 Tele 'inspired' swamp ash is another excellent model.
Thanks for your videos, your honesty and your humour (humor to you!) Cheers from the UK :-)
