  • The Vancouver Youth Choir, under the direction of Carrie Tennant, performs “Lao Rahal Soti” by Samir Shqer, arranged by Dr. Shireen Abu Khader. With gratitude to Dr. Khader for sharing her music and knowledge with us with such grace and wisdom.
    Soloist: Kate Medcalf
Video: Louise Chen & Michelle Uy
(illustrations & concept by Louise Chen, calligraphy & video production by Michelle Uy)
"The hands symbolize hope and resilience, which are the heart of the song’s message. As the video progresses, the viewers can explore and experience these themes as they watch the flower spring from its roots, along with the beauty of the text."

VYC VILLAGE (Premiered Jun 12, 2021)
VYC Village was recorded across many months in each singer's individual homes throughout the Greater Vancouver area during the COVID 19 pandemic.
VILLAGE is the Vancouver Youth Choir’s reflection on what community really means, even when we’re apart. Watch performances from ALL of our ensembles, singing music that we’ve learned from culture bearers from around the world via Zoom!
The Vancouver Youth Choir gratefully performs and operates on the traditional and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples, including the territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), and səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

This is so beautiful and shows so clearly the heart shared as Carrie conducts and as you sing.
