  • Despite a slow start to the GLeague season and Ignite's toughest season yet, Ron Holland has continued to be one of the best prospects in the 2024 class. An athletic wing with a high motor, dynamic defensive playmaking upside and the potential to create more efficiently as time goes on remains high on my board.

    Still a top 5 prospect for me, the draft community has unfair with him compared to other prospects. If Holland got the free pass that Castle does among the draft community they'd probably still consider him the favorite for 1st overall.

    seems like a prospect where you kinda gotta read between the lines, which I'm glad you alluded to. I think he has all the base traits that you'd want and although their careers aren't the same, you could almost compare his stock to that of Shaedon Sharpe. Both were hugely praised from their senior year film but struggled to show that in their draft year... Both excellent athletes with high motors to tap into who just seem to do enough of everything to garner praise. But they also both have huge risk factors tied to them... Could be another sort of steal for a team in the middle lotto

    • @cameronbolden5064
      @cameronbolden5064 5 месяцев назад +2

      Shaedon is a elite athlete while Holland is a very good one with a elite motor.

    • @planetpoog
      @planetpoog 4 месяца назад

      @@cameronbolden5064 yeah very true. I just think we could see a very similar thing happen where a team in mid lotto takes ron, people question it, then he starts to show the league why they took the chance. It really comes down to where he lands and how much opportunities he’s given to develop

    • @KingJaffeJoffer

      Shaedon Sharpe didn't play basketball in his pre-NBA year.

    • @planetpoog
      @planetpoog 4 месяца назад

      @@KingJaffeJoffer yeah that’s why I said their careers aren’t the same. but the stock projections have had similar trajectories and they have similar traits

    • @KingJaffeJoffer
      @KingJaffeJoffer 4 месяца назад

      @@planetpoog i don't think they're rated the same athletically. Half of Sharpe's appeal was that he'd be a tier one otherworldly athlete from day one. Holland never put together the kind of 3 level scoring + elite run/jump ability on filmt hat Sharpe did his last season playing in the EYBL. That circuit is the only reason he was drafted so high. If Holland was that kind of athlete he might be a lock for #1.

    Andrew Wiggins with a motor? Would love to see him fall to Orlando. Suggs/AB/Cole/Jett/Holland/Franz at the guard and Wings spots??? With Paolo/Wendell/JI/MoeSwag?? I like it.
    If you slide him into a role of defend, Attack close outs, transition and hit open 3’s I think he can excel. Don’t ask him to be a primary or even secondary ball handler.

      @@tideaaronfox Suggs can shoot. Jett Howard in theory can shoot. The Magic can sign shooters in the offseason. I think he has extremely high upside. The Magic aren’t winning a title in the next 3-5 years anyways. Just keep adding talent.
      Would love for Orlando to move up and take him, Castle or Shepherd. Shepherd being the ideal pick. I also think Holland will eventually be able to shoot.

    I just question his ability to score in the half court against true NBA level defenders and athletes. Could severely limit his offense imo.

    • @therockneverstops8261

      Wiggins is not a good comp, maybe a better shooting Jonathan Kuminga. His motor separates him from Wiggins but Wiggins’ wingspan gives him more positional versatility. Think a suped-up Marcus Morris with more range and elite athleticism.

    Where ever Memphis ends up. This is the guy they've been waiting for at SF. I don't see the Pistons (heavy at guard and center) going for anyone other than Holland too. The potential defensively is massive and offensively in transition he will be deadly. Wings are too important in the NBA to pass on a guy showing this much promise at 19 years old

    He’s going to look great in workouts and remain top 3. He has the positional size, athleticism, and skill that is elite at such a young age he projects as a starting NBA level player anywhere you draft him.

    He's not as athletic as Scoot was, and Ron's a worse shooter. He has no playmaking upside to make up for those deficiencies. I think he will struggle to score against NBA defenses unless it's in transition. All those things combined mean that he is definitively out of my top 5.
