- Rafael and James Barlowe dedicate an entire episode to G League Ignite wing Matas Buzelis.
Both Barlowe Brothers view Buzelis as a top five pick but share their concerns about his inefficiency as a shooter and the stretches in games where he's appears to be coasting. However, Rafael and James remained intrigued by his talent and long term potential and discuss the possibility to Buzelis being a huge riser in the pre draft process.

Imo someone could possibly pick Matas first... I think there's about 12 prospects that have that chance though.
There's about 4-6 players who could go number one because of how weak this class is
Rafael, when are you going to go live and have a call in show so viewers can debate with you? I think it would make great content.
I’m really interested in how much boards will change after the combine and team workouts. As a blazer fan also, I can’t wait for the summer. 😂
You need Donovan Clingan to protect the basket.
@@mikejones9906 we need a lot of things haha
Buzelis is the total package at his height.
He's something at his height... not the total package. I can't name a prospect in this class that's the total package.
@@norrinradd542 Still recovering from injury and getting acclimated to the team. You won't see the best of him until the end of the season but for me, he's number one because of his versatility and IQ at 6'10.
@@mikejones9906 lots of guys have that injury excuse. Not saying you aren't right about his versatility and IQ at 6'10", but that's not the complete package. Nobody is in this draft. Matas would be around the tier of a big board last year of Keyontae George/Jordan Hawkins only playing at a different position obviously if they were the same draft class. Jaden McDaniels mentioned in the video as a prospect I get. He'd be in that tier too, although I think I'd like McDaniels better. Bottom line is he's not an elite athlete and hasn't shown he's great at anything injury bug or not. In a normal draft with actual top prospects, he'd be a borderline crack the lottery guy. More of a back end to pick 20 guy. This year he's a top 12 prospect. Either way you don't expect full packaged players at that range. Serviceable but not full package. That was LeBron.
@@norrinradd542 McDaniels is not even in the same stratosphere as Buzelis offensively. It's hard to have these debates with people who don't follow high school basketball when it comes to one and done's because you're not looking at the body of work and accomplishments before his arrival at the G League. For example, Derrick Lively who was ranked number one in the country before he got to Duke. If you were to just watch Derrick Lively at Duke, you would think no way is this dude a first round pick, but the Mavericks scouting department took into consideration his body of work in High School, specifically in AAU on how he'd do in a faster paced setting with more spacing. That's why there is this anomaly that exists in college basketball, where a guy can be great in college but terrible in the NBA and there are guys who are mediocre in College but Great in the NBA. What would make it a lot easier to gage talent, is for the NCAA to adopt the same rules as the NBA. 24 second shot clock, 6 fouls before you foul out and same dimensions on the court. Nobody wants to admit it but that's why prospects outside of America make an essier transition into the NBA. Our guys are having to play a totally different game once they get to the league and having to acclimate to the spacing and distance of the 3 point line, stalls their development.
@@norrinradd542 I was going back and forth with Rafael all last year about drafting guys that can't shoot the ball and look what happened. Amongst the top 10 there are 3 guys who can actually shoot. Victor, Miller and Cason Wallace. I'm hoping teams don't make that mistake going forward. Matas isn't shooting at a high percent but his jumper passes the eye test, it's smooth and mechanical. People are saying this draft is weak and it might be but what top prospect can you look at this year and say this guy is a terrible shooter or he has weird form? Not too many..
Robert Horry
Love the cross racial comparison
@@LockedOnNBABigBoard Thanks. Yeah, maybe he is a high end specialist but he also has upside as a volume shooter/scorer. Would be a good fit on the Grizzlies -- maybe as a connector piece for Ja/Bane/Jaren.
@@markyacoubian1911 I appreciate that comparison. I most definitely will credit you for this, because I get tired of seeing Franz Wagner being thrown around for GP.
@@LockedOnNBABigBoardHi guys, does any of you have Igor Milicic on your big board/mock? Do you think he has any chance to be selected in 2 rd?
@@shylo3108 Franz isn't a bad comp either. But, Matas' stats aren't incredible or anything and might project better as a high level role player. Can make shots (like Horry) and is lanky/athletic but not overly explosive/powerful. Although Franz might be better off as a lower-usage player too.
IF Matas Buzelis figures out the "low-ish" usage rock star role player niche before Cooper Flagg does then Cooper Flagg will be seen as a semi-disappointment. My Flagg comps have already been "borrowed" or at least a few have although simultaneous inspiration exists. My FIRST comp for Cooper Flagg was Bob Pettit. Didn't see him play. The cynic who didn't see it sent me a Pettit highlight vid link -- yeah, except for the looping hook shot... same offensive game/package/tool kit.
Besides, Tidjane Salaun might be the guy we think Cooper Flagg is.
The "upside" Cooper Flagg comp would be somebody like Bob Pettit on offense and Dennis Rodman on defense/rebounding/complementary play. But, maybe those play styles don't leave lots of outs.
Buzelis would be a good fit in Memphis. Playing the Robert Horry role off Jaren and those guards. Wouldn't be a good fit in Orlando, Banchero/Buzelis/Wagner would have too much overlap.
Matas Buzelis will be a part of All Star Weekend (G League team versus the Rookies and 2nd year NBA players). Let's see what happens.
I don’t trust any players coming from the G-league. If I’m a GM, I would pick players who played college b-ball, or an international player who played in any of the European leagues. College basketball and international leagues have better coaching and training, and also has better competition with higher stakes. Meanwhile, the G-league for me feels like a glorified exhibition game with no stakes and less impressive coaching and training.
I think your right about g league games having less stakes to them
But the g league certainly has more talent and competition then the college level.
More then half of last years draft has spent significant time in the g league.
Though so far their track record has been pretty bad in the draft
Hence why I agree with the concerns
Hasn't been around long enough to make that statement.
He's not even in my lottery.
😂😂😂😂 who you got above him

@@Skygooose Lmao, thank you for showing us all that we should never listen to you about anything.
@@scottwickett1273 ok bud
@@Skygooose that's a deep draft. Just no "Superstar tier" player. Mostly Tier 2ish or Tier 3 level prospects. I am not entirely sure who I would have at 1 either -- might depend on who picks where.
