Why Apple Should Buy Rivian ✨

- Rivian just unveiled it's new product lineup, the R2, R3 and R3W. The question is do they have enough cash to pull off getting these into production? Rivian's brand and product lineup are incredible, but the economics behind the company have struggled, as they continue to lose more than $1B per quarter. What is Apple came in and acquired Rivian? Apple just shut down its self-driving/electric vehicle project, maybe now is the perfect time. $10B-$20B to acquire & fund Rivian is a super small number for Apple. It could easily be done with no dilution. Will Tim Cook make this crazy move to help Apple get enough data to build a self-driving car? It would be epic! Let me know your thoughts in the comments!!

Amazon already plans to buy Rivian.
More likely Amazon will acquire Rivian because they already have invested a lot and Rivian is building Amazon’s new custom delivery vehicles and they already have that synergy and collaboration. Also, Apple doesn’t want to reduce their margins, but Amazon has a different low margin strategy that their investors understand.
This purchase would do next to nothing to apples margins. They can just slap an apple logo on these cars and actually price them to be profitable.

@@Matzes Amazon already owns 22% of Rivian and designs the commercial vehicles that Rivian manufacturers. It just makes more sense. Apple doesn’t want to get into the vehicle business because it is inherently lower margins than what they already sell and if they plan of scaling to sell millions of vehicles, then it becomes a huge drain on their margins.
@nathanryweck3137 yea, but amazon doesn't have any brand that would make sense selling cars. I m not saying apple should do this. I m saying if they do, it's not gonna hurt them at all. They could make it work. But yea they might be looking for higher margin opportunities. But then again they got hundreds of billions just laying around, they don't know where to allocate it, it seems.

holly crap i never thought about this that would be freakin cool. I like more talk on this topic. What stock price would apple buy rivian for and what share price would shareholders like appl to buy rivian for? See i already see a bright future for rivian so I wouldn't sell my share for anything less then the all time high's. But it would be awesome if Appl teamed up with Rivian that would shoot the stock price to $80 easy. This does look like an appl car but I dont think Tim takes risks he didn;t with Telsa

I think this makes a lot of since for Apple. More money, but it will kind of be like the Beats acquisition. Why start from scratch when you can easily just buy Rivian? At some point, they will have to diversify. Rivian is a drop in the bucket to buy. People think they spent the last 8 years investing into EV and self driving just to shelve the division forever? No! They still have their research. Buying Rivian will become the new division and they will simply implement anything they have researched. The fact that they shut down the division tells me that a purchase is eminent rather it’s Rivian or someone else!

Apple will not buy Rivian. They know that the best ‘user experience’ is achieved in a perfect marriage of hardware and software. Apple software with Rivian hardware would be an imperfect marriage. Apple is aware that the existing car market is vulnerable to a self-driving revolution but found themselves in a Catch 22 situation of not having enough vehicles to acquire enough driving data. The first company to launch a robust stand alone self driving platform will effectively own the high ground in terms of revenues and profits. In this regard Tesla is effectively the Apple of the automotive world.

If Apple acquires Rivian, then there will eventually be zero screens inside the car. Just connect your Vision Pro and customize your own HUD and car controls through the headset. Hazards and exits during navigation will be highlighted via augmented reality.

I can see why you think so, it's a well liked brand, with similar design language but is it compatible with Apple's autonomous vision and have they soured on thin automotive margin.
If Apple wanted cars then a single product announcement from Apple is probably more brand value than what Rivian has.
Tesla has been gathering driving data for years amd they have so many cars colecting data that Rivian would never catch up to debelop their own self driving, they're better off saving their money and licensing FSD from Tesla.

Apple won’t and for good reason. Nothing disruptive about Rivian. Why would Apple want to be in business of maybe making 10% margin if everything goes perfectly in next two years for Rivian. Like everyone, but Rivian here and if it pops to 15+, take your profit and run.

Gali, I would be Apple, I would just stay away of this cash burning machine really… financials would burn year over year. I am not sure it would be a good deal for Apple, even for shareholders. Though, Rivian product quality seems to match.
I think it’s a great idea, I’d like to see Rivian survive and hopefully one day give Tesla some competition

How would this make any sense?
Rivian just keeps loosing money. Apple would never make a cheap car. That would go against their brand. Apple buying Rivian would only increase the cost of the vehicle.
Putting capital in a loosing money operation only increases the speed of the loss.
Apple would need a real strategy here. This is not a sector were Apple can command the suppliers to do what they want/need.
Please explain how Apple could/should approach that market to actually be profitable.

Rivian Doesn't need Apple...Apple should stick to making what they do best. Rivian is on a great path on their own.
But they really aren't. They don't know how to make enough vehicles because they are in holiday mode. They don't know how to spend money efficiently. They are now tripping over themselves and we are gonna build this and we gonna built that and this also. Meanwhile they still haven't made their first product profitable or lean enough. Dilution is around the corner
And Apple haven't made anything new or innovative in years. The iPhone is over and need something new

There is no reason, Apple wants high margin. Rivian and Tesla and all EV sector not bringing that type of margin. Apple will enter in the market only maybe ten years from now when you can do high margin, and just apply disruptive software on one single piece of metal all crafted in one shot. Also, I don't think Apple wants to have anything to do with Amazon, and sharing industrial patents and information with Bezos.
BTW the real sick appleish car today to me in terms of design seems to be the NIO ET9. Reallu something from the future, together with the CT, but much more stylish and appealing in terms of design if you are into Apple.
the branding of Rivian and Apple is much more appealing then the Amazon brand. Maybe OK for delivery trucks but not the same cool as Apple. I doubt I would buy a a car made by Amazon. I don't trust them
I don’t know. Apple is focused on higher margin revenue to increase profits over time. This would be a move to lower margin revenue.

I like it from a financial and strategic perspective but the DNA of Apple isn’t super acquisitive. Apple prefers to build and design internally. Its largest acquisition was Beats for 3B? If Microsoft wanted to get into the car business again this would more align on a company fit.

Once apple slaps their logo on there, they can price it almost profitablly. Put some apple software in there. Let rivian try to bring costs down. They are bleeding cash right now. But its not like they are lucid. They have a small chance of making it
