I think that both should have been prosecuted the mom and the dad. I don't know why prosecutors always let one go.
This little girl suffered in her life at the hands of these two monsters. Why would prosecutors let the mom off? Why?
The mom is in jail as we speak for this crime. She signed a plea deal for no more than 45 years in prison.

they both abused mercedes. they both beat her and screamed at her. he was the one who tortured her. and she would give mercedes to him to torture. "she did xyz, she needs to be punished." she's in prison for 75 years for her part in it.

Unfortunately it’s not up to police. It’s up to child protective services. Which they were called but never took the child away.
Every time they get called for a child screaming from being abused they should automatically put eyes on the child! Talking to the adults is never enough! And too lazy to talk to the 911 caller!
@@waterislife5109cps worked with katrina multiple times. she wasn't progressing through the classes they assigned her, so she and jose moved and changed their numbers. took the girls out of school.
meanwhile, the police were called repeatedly by the neighbors regarding the screaming and crying, and they showed up one (1) time. they knocked on the door, told them to quiet down, and left.

the sister was traumatized by what happened. she's with their grandmother, and she tells her grandmother that she's scared her mom will show up and take her back to jose's house.

...he was torturing her, carol. he was stabbing her feet with pushpins and ripping her hair out of her head. he and her mother beat the crap out of her. he took pictures and videos of him tying her up, making her eat dogshit, making her hold up a jug of water for hours. he thought it was funny. the neighbors heard her wailing "ow, no" and "please, daddy, stop" for hours every night.
they weren't neglecting mercedes, they were abusing her. he was torturing her. mercedes died from it. she was five. jose got life in prison and katrina got 75 years.
and mercedes' sister jordan got a lifetime of nightmares. she still talks about it. she tells her grandmother that she's scared her mom will show up and take her back to jose's house.
