Awesome build. The added idea of using the power box for a CPAP beats dragging a deep cycle marine battery around.

    Excellent video,
As a fellow C-PAP user, I discovered that my machine uses a wall-wart to convert 120v AC to 12v DC.
By splicing the line with Anderson Power Poles, I can connect it easily to power line attached to my battery box.
    Hope this helps.

Really neat! I agree with end not top connections. I used your logic in reverse, as all my own kit has Powerpoles I put 4 PP outlets. But I have in the box leads with cigarette lighter socket, usb adapters (with a usb lamp stalk) and even a lead with big battery connectors (we call Croc Clips) to either charge from or replace with a vehicle battery. I also split the inverter lead between its supplied lead of clips then put PPs so I keep that versatility. The beauty of these boxes is you are live when you reach site within seconds. Mine is not as professional but like yours meets all needs which the expensive commercial ones dont.

iI have a very similar power pack, works great for intended purpose. I added an LED on front of box to be used as a quick fix when needed to light a subject placed in front of said box, say on a table outdoors or whatever. I too used lead acid, they are hard to beat really price wise and will last for years if taken care of.

The essence of emergency preparedness. Simple, cheap and highly effective. SLABs are cheaper and more robust than the more exotic types, I always keep a few on charge, just in case.

I loved your comment about DC shock. I experienced that once, and it IS an attention getter!

Very nice. I just finished mine with a 30 amp Bioenno battery and Anderson connectors. Good point about the use of other connection methods, I will be adding a 12 volt socket to mine soon. Thank you for he idea. DE AD8DU AR.

Amazon sells a neat little charge adaptor. One end is a standard usb plug; next in line is some type of little transformer; and on the "Business" end is the charging plug for Yaesu Handheld radios. They are only about $20.00 at this time. I bought one for my Yeasu VX-6, and it charges the radio perfectly.
I will be purchasing two more of them; one for my VX-8, and the other for my Wife's FT-60.

Your video give me idea to build my own power box. Try to upgrade your battery to lifepo4 for higher cap and less drain. Thnx for sharing

You started off by talking about shorting out the banana plugs when handling or transporting it.? Then you talked about a DC burn or sting? So you know that DC has enough energy to melt wires and start a fire! Then properly wire it with a Catastrophe fuse at the battery POS post, then a disconnect switch so that when it's switched off you CAN'T short anything, then it's protected. All vehicles have a fusible link and a disconnect switch (ignition), RIGHT? Nice project!

They are not cigarette lighters, because that's the thing you put in the hole. And take it out to licht your cigarette!! They are actually called: 12 Volt sockets!! 😁😉

I'm from the past. In my formative years lighting cigarettes from that socket was its prime mission. In the end the nomenclature is mostly irrelevant.

What about using a 12v jump box that has cigarette lighter style power connections

With plans in motion to build my own, I have been checking about every video on Tube for education and ideas. Since electronics is one of my many weakpoints, I am questioning myself at every turn. The banana terminal / 12v idea is cherry! I would enjoy seeing how those are fabricated. Also the build video is one I am anticipating. I will check to see if it is up. If not , "make.....the.....video!" lol
Seriously man, I am like #66 so I am not the only electronically challenged viewer.

Great content! Do you think that the power switch you went with will be prone to getting switched on by mistake? I could see it getting switched on while packing everything in the back of my vehicle. Is the plastic ammo can heavy duty enough to transport the weight of the battery without the handle breaking?

    • @KS6DAY
      @KS6DAY  2 года назад +1

That is always a possibility. Which is another reason why I don't have any exposed hot contacts on the outside of the case. As for handle strength, that's actually a problem with the smaller box I was originally going to use. On those, the handles pop off fairly easy. But with this box the handle is very secure. Weight isn't really much of an issue with this loadout as the whole thing only weighs about 6 pounds.

@@KS6DAY hell of a lot cheaper than a Jackery or Goalzero and fun to make! This is on my project list.
Did you buy the cigarette lighter plug with the connectors ready made?
