In the summer of 1982, the ad agency I recently joined (Clark & Associates) was tasked to save the fledgling Waterworld at Cal Expo. The TV commercials I produced, directed, and edited energized the people of Sacramento, Stockton, and Modesto, making the park a success. The excellent cameraman was Steve Lombardi from KXTL TV40. I edited the spots off-line in my office on a JVC 3/4" video system, and then finished the spots at TV40's online video editing suite.
Very cool. I also remember Windsor Waterworks and another smaller short lived water park in Lake County called Outrageous waters. Seems this type of thing is a dying breed
I think the problem this park had was that a much bigger and more exciting water park opened just a few years later on the other side of town, so this one was pretty neglected after that. I'm actually surprised someone is investing to rebuild it.
I have a tape somewhere of a channel 10 news segment from when this place first opened in 1981. It was recorded over part of the Royal Wedding oddly enough (I have several different recordings of that.) If I can dig it out again I’ll upload it here.
@@randomalleycat Check out the KCRA newscast from December 1980 I uploaded a while ago for footage of Sunrise Mall during its glory days. It shows a bit of the now-gone Florin Mall also.
@@randomalleycat I moved away from Sacramento about 10 years ago. Would visit a couple times a year. I also remember when they changed the name. It was one of those places from my youth that I always thought would just be there.
My childhood. I remember going over the map with friends to see what rides we go on for. Buying dipping dots. The smell of chlorine in the air and the water misters at the front. The worst part was leaving. 😢
@@stevenclark4 that’s actually perfect, because I went in 2000 and I rented a tube, but someone stole it from me so I didn’t get my deposit back, so I’d like a refund please. 😅

Thank You! use to work here 1985-1988
Awesome! Must be interesting to see what’s changed but also a few things are still there.

Seems like it, we're getting old!
Reminds me of a long defunt water park I went to as a child in San Antonio called Aquarina Springs. Glass bottom boats and mermaids.

Still looks like a fun place to visit imo
Ty for sharing the footage 👍🤞
I used to go there a lot as a kid, I'm excited to see the changes the new owner is planning to make!
@randomalleycat that's very good news, glad to see someone has taken an interest to it,very easily a beautiful park
Sad to something like this deteriorate.
Extremely good news it's getting a caretaker once again

I'd love to see it!

@@TheMediaHoarder I think I will definitely be spending some time scrolling through your archive!
@@randomalleycat I’m always looking for old off-air tapes from anywhere but particularly Sacramento. I can play just about any format!
I'll keep an eye out, I have a box of VHS somewhere, just need to get a VCR to see what's on them.
Anyone remember The WOOZ? Wish I could see that one more time.
Man this shit is so sad to see my childhood favorite place just kinda run down like this
For sure, that seems to be the Sacramento aesthetic unfortunately.
I went several summers in the 90s when it was called "Waterworld USA", before Six Flags and Raging Waters. Had no idea it closed down
Same, last time I went was probably 99 or 2k.

@@colinj5291 Yep, same thing with ARCO Arena. CAKE even wrote a song or two about the place! Crazy to see an empty patch of dirt there.

Many sunburns and burnt feet here as a kid. Good memories.
Can you do Manteca water slides as well.
I will see what I can do when I'm back in the area!
@randomalleycat I would love that. I moved out of the area in 96 and it broke my heart when I heard it closed.
Manteca water slides is under Oakwood Lake today. Go all the way south on Yosemite and you’ll see what’s left. Heartbreak.

So what recreation do kids have today? Waterparks were absolute staples of cities and the ones remaining suck.
I've honestly never been to the one in Roseville, but it looks nice from the freeway. Supposedly they are starting to rebuild this one though.
Sunsplash Roseville has the feeling of an overgrown mini golf. Not a very large property and on a busy day, it’s just lines everywhere. No options!
@@AlexanderDavis-l3l Well that sucks. Hopefully this one turns out well when they rebuild it.
