It's not the thought process of a man and a woman.
It's simply who invested more in that child. Women's bodies undergo massive changes to birth a child whereas for men it's just like spitting(sperm).

Similarly, I have those who don't mind having a good laugh. Laughing about something doesn't mean we're laughing at someone's pain. It was a generic joke not aimed at anyone. Don't take it personally. As far as easing into it is concerned, some people do not laugh because they feel bad or guilty but slowly they realize that it's just a joke. It's for such people.
