  • The Chinese government has finished constructing Zimbabwe's new parliament building outside the capital, Harare, at a cost of about $200 million. It replaces a colonial-era building, but critics say there are concerns about security and China's growing influence.

      -Barua Safi
@Barua Safi thank you Barua for your reply from an African perspective and I agree with you that the Chinese approach towards Africa is very different from the Europeans. If you look at China’s history, it NEVER colonize other nations and impose imperialism. It is simply not a Chinese concept. My understanding is China wishes to develop Africa for the following reasons : 1. In order to expand the trade with African must first help them to become more developed 2. A strong and friendly Africa will help to counter balance the world influence against the USA 3. There is a long tradition of friendship between African and Chinese. 4. China needs resources from Africa to develop its own economy, its a win win for both 5. China wants to demonstrate to the world that there is an alternative solution for nations development towards prosperity, and China wants to share its own success towards the developing world. Despite of that, China is not imposing its own ideology upon other nations. (You may talk to any person from the ASEAN countries to verify). I think many aspects of these are twisted and misunderstood by the western media nowadays. I wish African and Chinese can both develop hand in hand and not been dictated by the European and the USA

      2) Chinese do not allow locals into restaurants. Again testimonies from Africans in Nigeria, Ghana, and I have personally witnessed this in Zimbabwe.
3)Chinese man making racist video messages using African children and about African children.
      4) china's exploitation of Africa. The ruin you are wrecking on our natural resources, from illegal gold mining in Ghana and Zimbabwe, the destruction of the copper belt area in Zambia, the illegal hunting and eating of our rare species with wanton greed to extinction like tortoises in Zimbabwe.
      5) The poaching of our animals to extinction for silly potions and ornaments, like our rhinos for their horns and elephants for their tusks.
      6) China tries to seize assets of African government's when they default on predatory loans. Recently it was an airport, but it includes ports, forests etc
      7) China manufactures and releases a virus and then tries to blame it on Africans. Covid.
      8) Racism to Africans in China. Chinese teach their children to hate Afficans.
I could go on. Chinese are racist and just want to exploit Africans. Neo-colonialism, a new style and wave of colonialism, but colonialism all the same. Chinese are racist, very racist, in some respects even more so than europeans, but certainly you are not some sort of saviors or friends to Africa. How does one provide a 'grant' to build a project that comes directly back to you because you employ your own companies and people for the job? What sort of a 'grant' is that? The China to China grant via Zimbabwe? The amazing disappearing back into Chinese coffers grant? African leaders who are hooked like junkies to Chinese financial fixes, which are actually nooses, please just learn to say no thank you. If you need professional therapy to develop that resolve then please seek it. African citizens are tired of being indebted one way or another to foreigners and usually for fong kong products and services. Also what is wrong with the old parliament? Government schools and hospitals are crumbling, civil servants including teachers and doctors are paid a pittance if they are paid at all, and yet we are going into hock for a vanity project. Absolutely disgusting! There is no such a thing as a free lunch, they must stop calling it a grant.

A mall may be able to employ people, a huge parliament too can employ more people. The present parliament is so small and congested, a bigger one would be able to enable your leaders to work and discuss about providing more work for you and your friends in a more conducive manner. You say a mall, why not a hospital? why not a school? Better still a whole city for you.

It is natural that people love to maintain relation with that person who come to help them. Many people may not like it. But this is a new reality. The world order is changing very quickly. In order to maintain peace in the world people need to learn how to adapt with this new reality.
