  • Greed can become unbridled as we age says our guest Author and Attorney Mark Accetura. What underlies the development of greed's inheritance problem? Why do people react in the way some do after death? What prompts strange behavior by siblings after a parent's death? What do we inherit beyond assets? Can you plan to reduce family disputes after your death?

Why do we give our money to others? To make their lives a little more pleasant, a little easier, and to show we care about their well being. Mark Accettura speaks the truth in everything he says here. Yes: “who we leave our money to makes a very loud statement” about our relationship with the deceased. However, if you are excluded or cut out, there is no use getting mad at the living, (they will just say you’re jealous and greedy, while accusing you of being a whiner and a crybaby), and you can’t argue with the dead for they have spoken and they speak no more. The dead are gone forever; the living must carry on. Just walk away, say nothing, and move on. Realize that “life is unfair,” and continue to do good.

Thats what i think too. completely cut ties with them. this week was my niece's birthday. i did not even wish her. do little little things like this. get it where it will really hurt them. don't wish them a merry christmas. don't wish them a happy new year. wish everyone else on your list. they can curl up and hug their money and sleep with it. since that's all they care about. haha. sooner or later, they will feel the emptiness.

Cripes.... Yes 11 years after dad died we are still dealing with our half brother who grabbed all dads money but his obsession, greed and control pulled the executor solicitor and accountant into dark dealings too. The journey has been massive with firms and regulatory bodies covering up and protecting the executors. Eventually we got a snippet of information re fraud and the police are involved. I think they have just spotted our half brothers personality disorder!!

I found out yesterday I was written out of the trust. I’d been letting go inwardly for years. It’s sad, but the brother that did it is an unhappy person. It won’t get him what he really wants, nothing ever will.

. My aunt stole my inheritance and I learnt to never trust, never hope, and have zero faith in humanity. Greedy people get ahead and kind people suffer. You can’t be disappointed if that’s all you expect anyways.

Trust but verify. I think it’s practically impossible to live without trusting people.
I don’t speak to my brother anymore. I trusted him blindly. That was my bad. He gave me a very financially costly but effective lesson about the greedy and unrestrained dark side of human nature.

Maybe people are just greedy. Just dying. Psychotherapist for 30 years. I think people can’t handle the pain of grief and it’s easier to be angry than hurt. Focus on inheritance other than the grieving process.

I refused my inheritance. I don't have that millennial loser mentality feeling that I deserved any of it. It shaped me into being someone 100x more independent than any millennial wimp out there. The money, property and everything else was asked to be put under my bother's name. I am glad for what I did as it made me way more successful than I ever would have been :)
