I'm glad you enjoyed it! I love lamp black too 💗
Beatiful!

This is lovely. I will have to take a deep breath and experiment with wet in wet. Thanks for the tutorial. Jo in France 🇫🇷
I love Sadie!!! Lol
Me too!!
What a lovely painting! Well done! :)
Thank you! My cat Sadie gets mad when I don't paint her once in a while ; )
Beautiful 😍
Thank you!
Rachel, your cat is so adorable, tq for showing how to paint cat step by step😍 💖
You are so welcome!
I so love hearing your little one, lol!
Beautiful painting of lovely Sadie. The Moonglow was an interesting color, I will have to pick some up at the art store. Thanks for the tutorial.
It's a fun color to play with!
@@rachelsstudiodotcom I look forward to giving it a try.
P.s. exact replication of Sadie Rachel, Bellissimo❤
Thank you for fabulous demo, I am still working on the cats eyes to try and master the wonderful effect you manage to get.
My pleasure! It takes practice and painting a few times usually : )
😲😲😲🤯 That is a great watercolor!!! Also I enjoyed watching Sadie in the left corner. She is CUTE!
Thank you so much!
@@rachelsstudiodotcom welcome!
I have to try this.. love that moonglow .. i shall look for that and try this technique.
It's a lot of fun!
oh my gosh! Most helpful video ever for me as a color pencil artist who is also getting into watercolor. This is the VERY BEST imagery of a black cat in tons of angles, so I can better understand this particular breeds interesting hair structure! Awesome, awesome, awesome. I recently found your channel and you are my number one go-to for getting started in watercolor. I'm so excited to start that adventure! Love your personality and relatability.
That is so sweet of you to say! I'd love for you to join my Facebook group too and share your art journey! fb.com/groups/rachelswatercolorworkshop
color pencil newbie artist here! looking for great results like this without the hours of painting/drawing time
beautiful cat...black and brown. I love how she give bitey kisses just like mine does LOL. Awesome painting. I just ordered Moonglow!
Oh you'll love Moonglow : ) And yes my kitty is NAUGHTY! Especially when she yowls in the hall at 3 am.
Thank you, Rachel......this was a wonderful tutorial and I'm grateful you are so generous to share it with us. I'll go to your Patreon site to download the drawing tomorrow. I absolutely love MoonGlow. I used it in my latest Fozzy painting.....so much fun.
I look forward to see what you do with the tutorial! Your Fozzy painting was wonderful!
@@rachelsstudiodotcom Thank you. I'll try my best with your tutorial.
I enjoyed this one again this evening, my sweet friend! :)...You definitely are amazing!!! XOXO
Thank you so much for always being so supportive!
Love her eye's
Thank you!
Just found you, love the videos - the cat videos in the corner are a bonus! I have a black cat too! 🥰
Black cats rule foreverrrrrr!!
Hermoso tu gato y tu video. Gracias
My pleasure
Great, thx
My pleasure!
Oh wow! I have photo's of three of my wonderfully black cat's that are now sadly no longer with me . One of them was called Scrags and he looked so much like your cat . I will try and paint them all when I've finished making 5 quilts for my grandchildren.
You sound like a very busy person!
Oh my goodness I love love love this painting! I love black cats anyway, you make this look easy, I'll bet its not when I try, but I will try a similar painting. One tip I have for white gel pens, the ink gums up quite quickly, if you draw on the back of your finger it frees up the ball and flows better x
Oh that's a great tip! I'd love to see your painting when you finish it!
So very beautiful and heartwarming to watch, Rachel! XOXO...Loved it so much....sure missing my studio assistant so much...and enjoyed seeing your snuggles with Miss Sadie!
I appreciate it so much! I'm so sorry about your kitty!!!
Can’t beat Moonglow.
It's a lot of fun!
Hello, just found you and I have a thing for black cats. My very large female, "Summer" deceased early in her time with me. I have some photos and wanted to try a watercolor of her for my wall. Black cats are unique and have real character. Thanks for sharing your black cat with us!
I'm so sorry to hear about Summer. Black cats are a special kind of challenge but they are such unique cats. I have a whole playlist about painting black animals by the way.
Абсолютно очаровательно! ❤
You made painting black cat seem easy which it is not. But loved watching this demo. Love to watch your cute cat too. Thanks.
Thank you!
Totally new n I love, love your painting!🎉❤🎉❤; I don't do watercolors but need to learn. My husband loves his cats..n I do acrylics..well started about a year ago.
I will definitely pursue your channel..n about a month will support you..bc Sadie just won my heart. Years ago my first cat was a black one..n my ex husband literally abandoned it! It has taken me 20 years to finally move on from depression from what he did.
Question: do you like watercolors better vs. Acrylics?❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love black cats and I find it difficult to paint them, but after watching this video I will try to paint Poe and Mia (our black cats) Thanks 🤗😘
You're welcome to share on my Facebook group if you'd like! Watercolor animals with Rachel
Beautiful painting. The blue highlights are icing on the cake. I’m a little distracted by the videos in the corners .
Hmmmm, I really appreciate that feedback - Sadie will be mad but I might need to quit featuring her 'muse cam' so much ; )
I just found your channel last night and love the Sadie cam💕 But not being a painter, I'm not trying to catch every nuance of your technique and can see how the inset may distract some viewers. Maybe you could post some kitty cam-less versions as well as the videos with Sadie cam? 🤔🙂
BTW, I agree that the blue highlights on your black cat really make her shine 😊
Bellissimo
Thank you!
this painting of Sadie turned out so great, with the mixture of moonglow, black and touch of blue. Would you please do another painting of Sadie with all her wonderful browns that she has in her mane. I'd be very interested to see how you do that
I've done SO many paintings of her - when I paint the browns in her coat I just add a touch of burnt sienna to the mix.
Super cool painting. Will try this!
Moonglow is a great color but unfortunately it is one of the ds that is lightfast.
Sadie, the Goddess xx
That's exactly what she thinks!
omg Rachel ! new to your channel and this is BEAUTIFUL! (I also love your live view of your cat on the tutorial what kind of cat is that?
That is my late Sadie - I found her in a park as an abandoned kitten so I'm not sure her breed. She made the best muse though! I made a video about her at ruclips.net/video/dNO_YWK8gpg/видео.html
ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS TECHNIQUES RACHEL. ONCE I GET SETTLED I WILL DEFINITELY JOIN PATREON.COM! THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME!
Wonderful! I look forward to having you!
The eyes make the painting
Yes I agree!
Just found you on U Tube. WOW Rachel. You go girl! I have a black cat and dog. Sometime their fur looks like it is turning a orangey color. Weird. I wonder if throwing a warm color in is a bad idea? ... BTW, love your soothing voice and happy demeanor. Just subscribed. Love your hacks also! Thx- Mendy, ( from Georgia) 🍑
I like to use burnt sienna sometimes to paint the brown highlights! Thank you for taking the time to comment as it helps me a lot!
Hi Rachel. I just watched this wet on wet black cat tutorial and I think you’re a wonderful artist. And I’d like to thank you for sharing your talent. But I’d like to give you a constructive critique in the spirit of helping you improve your content. It’d be easier to follow your tutorial if you kept all the superfluous videos on sides and corners out of your tutorials. This way we’d be able to follow what you’re teaching us much better. Thx again for sharing a lovely technique that’ll help us achieve improvement in our art. 🥰
Thank you so much! Sadie will be disappointed to be axed but you might have a good point : )
@@rachelsstudiodotcom I really liked the videos on the side with Sadie. Maybe take a poll.
@@jonisolis9645 I appreciate the feedback - it seems some people like Sadies 'muse cam' and some don't. I think it adds a touch of personality to my videos. But maybe a poll is called for : )
Fantastic talent! Do you do videos of the drawing before the painting?
I trace in photoshop, print it out, put it on a window, then transfer it to my paper that way
@@rachelsstudiodotcom oh wow! any vids on that process? Thanks so much for sharing your talent!
@@sweetmemorish try ruclips.net/video/uVT79M_EBms/видео.html although it's not Photoshop
Oh my gosh, when you came in with the ultramarine blue I think I might’ve gasped! I wasn’t ready for that! LOL. Are you using a calligraphy brush?
At what minute are you referring to? I use a Silver Black Velvet size 8 round for most of this video : )
Turned out great! I love moonglow too! What is the brand and name of the turquoise color you mentioned and said it was discontinued? Tfs
Antique Turquoise is a discontinued Holbein color
@@rachelsstudiodotcom Thank you for that answer, I was wondering about that myself. So can we assume you're not loyal to one brand of watercolor paint? I love Daniel Smith's Moonglow and please consider looking into Bloodstone Genuine, as well. Both are amazing colors, where the pigment tends to separate into beautiful shades. I enjoy painting with Holbein's Peacock Blue and have many tubes of Winsor/Newton and a few from M. Graham. It's true what they say---buy the best you can afford.
I love it. My cat, however, looks like he stuck his tail in an electric socket.
Reachel, will you ever offer drawing outlines?
They are available to my Patreon students and channel members
I didn’t hear the brand of paint you used (moon glow and wintergreen gold). Please tell me again.
Thanks. I loved your tutorial!!!
It's Daniel Smith Moon Glow and Winsor & Newton Green Gold
Please tell me what brush are you using ?
I’m not sure it’s a flat or round and it seems it has an angel. The tip of the brush is so fine. Thank you.
Mostly a silver black velvet 8 round
Rachel did you glaze the eye area?
Can you get creamy consistency from pans or is it better to use straight from the tube?
You can get it from pans - it just takes a bit more scrubbing of the paint to reactivate it!
mist your pans a little ahead of time to give the paint time to soften
Would wetting the back of the paper as well as the front help? I like doing that when I want to paint wet in wet to keep surface at the right wetness level.
Yes you can do that and that is especially useful with 300 lb cold press
Love this, Racheal. Have you tried mixing any colors with the Moonglow, in order to make a dark or black color? If so, what colors did you mix? TYFS
I haven't experimented much with mixing it yet, but the possibilities are endless!
♥♥♥♥♥♥
Hi Joan! Thanks for dropping a comment!
Here are some black cat facts that I think you'll find interesting - ruclips.net/video/K5C_CzZgqUQ/видео.html
Great tutorial and beautiful cat but found muse cam a bit distracting.
How do I access your sketches?
They are at the very bottom of the post at www.patreon.com/posts/40912516
Sadie looks just like my grandkitty Boudreaux
Boudreaux must be beautiful 💗🐈💗
Your cat looks like my black coon cat Molly.
Yay. I guess that'll show your in-laws
This is so bizarre. Our cat looks EXACTLY LIKE YOURS 🤣 I feel like I’m watching you paint my cat! Do you know what breed your cat is?
I found her as a tiny kitten in a park so I have no idea! She has tabby markings hiding in all the black though
@@rachelsstudiodotcom my husband thinks ours is a Chantilly Tiffany. He found a video on RUclips and is convinced 🤣
What type of cat do you have? She looks exactly like the rescue kitty we ADORED but we have no idea if he was a particular breed.
I found her in a park so I don't know!
@@rachelsstudiodotcom you were both so lucky!!
@@lynnekeenan9367 I agree. She's been a wonderful cat.
The cat is very distracting is there a way to hide it?
My newer tutorials don't have a cat like this one.
wish there were more of the 'painting space' visible...seen too much of the cat and not enough of your work....
I know I should take some of these old videos down but I figure someone may get something out of them still. I've learned a lot about teaching watercolor online in the last year or two!
nice tutorial but wayyyyy too many ads!
These videos take hours to edit, many more than the actual painting and a lot of work. It's up to you whether or not watching a 30 second ad is worth watching a video that took hours and hours to create. I sure hope so and I hope you find a lot of helpful tips!
@@rachelsstudiodotcom its not really a 30 second ad when there is so many of them, more like almost 10 minutes. I kinda loose interest and move on tbh
@@eveast2556 I don't put ads on my Patreon videos
The video of the cat and your son are distracting from the painting. Can't watch both at same time. What is your goal? That space in the screen could be used to show the painting in more detail/closer if it didn't have to share the screen with ref photo AND your cat live.
Perhaps you can create a separate channel of vids of you living on your cat and your kid. I am interested in painting techniques.
That's good feedback. My newer videos don't show her during the tutorial.
This was a good video but after awhile I found the cat video too distracting.
Yes, I've stopped giving Sadie her own little video window. She's not happy about it ; )
@@rachelsstudiodotcom hahaha yeah cat’s do love center stage don’t they! 😄
