After draining the fluid from the pan, now remove the small bolts around the perimeter of the pan. Then gently pry it off. Filter is inside. Don’t forget to get a new gasket too
I HAVE A PROBLEM, WHEN I SHIFT TO REVERSE . I WILL CHANGE THE OIL AN FILTER. I THINK I'AM DOING THE CORRECT. OR DO I HAVE TO CHANGE THE SHIFT SELENOIDS? THANKS IN ADVANCE. THIS IS A 120K MILES TRUCK
The customer requested this as maintenance while I was replacing an oxygen sensor. He had recently had the transmission filter and fluid changed about 20,000 miles ago.
Yes it does, and I suggest replacing it as scheduled maintenance. This customer only wanted to do a simple drain and refill as it was changed recently.
Just thinking to change tranny oil on my '99 PreRunner but notice the previous owner put some kind of epoxi on the drain plug, should I try remove this plug and maybe not causing damage to the thread or remove the oil carter and buy new gasket and filter. Which be more cheap to do ?
My apologies for the late reply. I would do the second part you suggested. If the drain plug is not leaking now then I would leave it alone and remove the pan. Replace the filter and gasket just like you said. Perhaps get a new pan before installing it back together, they are not too expensive sometimes.
A simple drain and fill will be about 3 liters. Add 2 liters first then check the dip stick. If you remove the entire pan and filter, then it will need more.
The filter and pan gasket was just changed less than 10 thousand miles ago. This is maintenance the owner requested. You don’t have to pull the pan to do a drain and fill.
I agree!! I was expecting at least 3 quarts that’s why I got the gallon. I was surprised, but the dipstick doesn’t lie! I was on flat ground and it was hot
so you skipped past the washer on the plug and lowered ther vehicle... why not mention that the washer was on the pan or missing ? which is it? And common sense is to put the fluid in a pour-pitcher and then pour it in the funnel... not take a chance with a full jug of it from a store...
Doug H. in VA Ah! I did forget to address that in the video my apologies. This was over a year ago, but if my memory serves there was no washer and it was just a drain plug. As for the pouring, you are right! But in a shop setting we typically are in a rush haha bad habits!
Thanks for making the video and putting the transmission model in the notes.
david esquivel Glad we could help you! That’s our goal.
Thanks for this video I think I may leave the internal filter and just due a drain and fill
How come u don't shift to EVERY GEAR then check level????????
How do you change the filter?
After draining the fluid from the pan, now remove the small bolts around the perimeter of the pan. Then gently pry it off. Filter is inside. Don’t forget to get a new gasket too
I feel sorry for anybody to ask these a eyes or any kind of question because they are absolutely insane

Why reverse???? With engine running...shift to every gears then shift to P then check levels...add more if needed
shift solenoid??? Why? You just change transmission fluid .....ONLY
Why did the customer want a fluid change? Were there any issues with the transmission?
The customer requested this as maintenance while I was replacing an oxygen sensor. He had recently had the transmission filter and fluid changed about 20,000 miles ago.
Does that mode not have a filter inside the pan?
Yes it does, and I suggest replacing it as scheduled maintenance. This customer only wanted to do a simple drain and refill as it was changed recently.
After 7 Garage , ok thanks for the quick reply!!!! So the filter is located inside that drain pan right so I have to pull it?!?

How many LITERS does it carry OR SHOULD IT CARRY?
A simple drain and fill will be about 3 liters. Add 2 liters first then check the dip stick. If you remove the entire pan and filter, then it will need more.
@@After7Garagehow much more?
Does the car have to be on neutral or park to check the car while it’s running?
It depends on the vehicle; most say on the dipstick which position. Most of the time it is in park while running.

I have the car and engine/transmission. Would it be on park while running?
Shift to every gears and return to P / with engine running to check level....

You didn't pull tha pan and clean the filter and magnet....hmmmm
That wasn’t part of this service. Does the title say transmission filter and pan gasket change? …hmmmm

Haha, we have a snarky contestant......
Thanks for playing.
that why call QUICK SERVICE..just drain and fill...little kids can do this...
only 2 qts...dont sound right...
I agree!! I was expecting at least 3 quarts that’s why I got the gallon. I was surprised, but the dipstick doesn’t lie! I was on flat ground and it was hot
Do you know what size the drain bolt is
drain and fill 2 QTS maybe little too much too!

It's a 2.5 qt drain/refill for the 2.4 auto. Do it three times. Measure drained fluid and refill with equal amount. Accuracy counts....
And there is a crush washer...as opposed to a sealing washer. Pays to get a new one when you're doing drain/ refills
That is the WRONG fluid for that transmission.
What does your service manual say?
Yes....Must be Dexron III NON SYNTHETIC for this transmission
