Jónsi's guitar was forged by the elves...
Graham Thomas hell yeah
One guitar to rule them all, one guitar to find them,
One guitar to bring them all and in the brightness blind them.
I like how all her questions are expecting some special secret and the answers are always theres nothing special
I wish everybody was as good at their job as Rebecca... Top Shelf.
the thing that I love about Jonsi is that he's a post-rock icon. as indie as you can get. yet he plays Les Paul style humbucker guitars into a Marshall!
When I think of post rock I think of ash ra tempels first album.
I love how in depth she gets with her questions! Nothing gets unanswered, it's nice when a gear nerd like me haha
You want your guitar relic-ed? Send it on tour with Sigur Ros. They´ll take care of that...
She asks all the right questions!
+Nicholas Paul shes assuming the viewers don't know and trust me they most likely don't plus shes very detailed. I enjoyed this interview.
+smallclone Yeah, when it comes to interviews about guitar equipment it's nice to see people be thorough about it.
I miss Rebecca as a host
+hoshino What's wrong with Rebecca?
Jonsi now has a toneprint on tc electronic's reverb pedal that is outrageous. I wonder if he added the hall of fame to his board since this rundown...?
Very knowledgeable both interviewer and tech.
I love how they get such awesome sounds and nothing spectacular
Not cleaning guitars, not changing strings, haha Jónsi is a weird fella!
I hardly clean my own acoustic (I hardly use it anymore because of college life, sadly) and I almost _never_ change the strings unless they've broken, so though it's weird Jónsi isn't alone ^_^
youre just broke and lazy :D
Tip of the iceberg, I'm guessing. Lol, what a talent though.
the white les paul is a post lawsuit era ibanez les paul
So basically what the tech is saying is: "buy whatever gear you like and play like jonsi and you will sound like jonsi"
+Lars Stray I think it's more like: "No matter how much you try to replicate Jonsi's equipment, you won't replicate his sound."
You actually can, it's not that difficult.
Wow, 0.12 strings with a cello bow, two boosts and cathedral-like reverb. That's why it sounds so heavy and full. Great video, very informative.
56-12 strings in E standard ? holy crap :D
once you do it you wont go back, but its only for us non-soloing non-bending cats unless youre a jazzist
Why did they blur out the knobs on the looper at 9:45?
Music(Ian) I guess someone, maybe the band themselves, decided it was a secret recipe and doesn't want to give away their sound. Hmm...
+Music(Ian) And the reverb processor at 8:10
Even though the marks for the knobs are visible.
gawd, i love guitar tech stuff. makes me wanna go play music.
True, I don't. I just tried to answer the questions the best I could with the knowledge that I had gotten handed down from others. But I still hope that there's other stuff there that you found interesting besides my knowledge, or lack there of, on bows and rosin :)
I think you did a good job, Mr. Geirdal. 😊
Rebecca was very thorough with the questions. Does she play guitar?
Rebecca Dirks..... what a babe!
The Bird is a wonderful guitar, thanks to the artist who made it and pls Sigur Ros team take good care of it!
Well I know the guy and he´s a good guy. He´s also the bass player in a band called Dimma. Cool band.
Isn't he the bass player from IDLES?
Cello bows are typically shorter and heavier than violin bows for the record
could anyone tell me how to get that synth bass sound on Brennisteinn on Logic or on an actual bass without spending £500 on a moog minitaur?
it was made by bowing an ukulele and sampling every note into logic and then processed with stock plugins and played on a keyboard.
I think Rebecca knows more about the gear than the techs do
that beard is magnificent
FuriousMuze hipster to the bone...
Best thing about this, other than staring at Rebecca, is hearing "Inheritance", by my 'other' favorite band Talk Talk at 17:25
Nice rundown, Rebecca. Good job.
That's Spirit Ditch by Sparklehorse. Sorry.
Erm. You're wrong. Its Talk Talk's "Inheritance". If its not then i need a hearing aid.
Nope. Nobody needs a hearing aid and nobody is wrong, except about the time stamps. @ 17:25 it's Inheritance by Talk Talk and @ 23:18 it's Spirit Ditch by Sparklehorse.
Amazing camerawork on the amp settings...can't see shit!
I want those ValveDrives!!!!
How refreshingly simple and (relatively) off the shelf kit.
What a great interview ! Thanks you ! Wish there was about drums and keyboards
What do you want to know about it?
@@dimmarock evrything 😅 brand and size of the drums, what cymbals, what heads, what sticks what hardware
Orri’s setup was. Vic Firth 5a sticks, vic firth jazz brushes (the white hard plastic handle ones), REMO on toms; emperor clear (both over and under), snare emperor coated and ambassador hazy on the snare side.
Drums are C&C maple/gum/maple
Main kick 20x14
Side kick 26x14
Rack tom 13x9
Floor 1 18x15
Floor 2 16x15 (yes the larger one is the main and smaller is secondary)
C&C 14x6 maple/poplar/maple as main and m/g/m as secondary
All crash cymbals are Sabian AAX series 18”, 19” and 20”, hi-hats are 18” crash cymbals, top is a virgil donati signature and the bottom is a symphonic. Ride is a paiste 602 flat ride.
Then he used various chromatic gongs and a 20” ride he laid on top of the snare and floor tom for songs like Andvari.
Hope this helps😊
Oh yes and all hardware is Yamaha. Some of it is since the ( ) tour.
And Porter & Davies drum throne
@@dimmarock wow thanks you so much !!! How do you know all that ??
Also surpising that he was not endorsed by a cymbal brand
omg yes, they probably wouldn't do it though. A bit like herding cats that band is.
Congrats to this cool guy who knows what he is talking about
If the knobs are taped over it's usually just so you don't accidentally adjust them with your foot when playing.
I was at this show. My mind was thoroughly blown.
Silli’s birthday today. Everyone wish him happy birthday
She's good!
Rebecca does such a great job in these interviews.
the guitar tech with less work in the world!
All in the way he plays...
Go and listen to any track, of any album and hear why this is an amazing band.
plays bass with a drumstick, holy shit I've seen it all.
please someone tell me whos doin soundcheck in the background at beginning. i heard that song b4
True Dreams of Wichita by Soul Coughing.
It's really cool, but cello bows are actually shorter than violin and viola bows
jaffeyannai you are correct I just told her what I was told a few years earlier and didn't bother to check the facts.
Dan Johnson = Tech Legend
ok the sound going from the bird to the jcm 2000, after that going in to the loops station, then going in to the tc electronic m350 reverb, and where it goes from here ?? i dindt hear it , because here is where we have the magic XD XD
Very happy to hear Talk Talk in the background towards the end.
I highly doubt it. They usually have quite good English skills and don't mind answering questions. What does that have to do with this interview, anyway? It's an Icelandic band, not Swedish.
So cool to hear Talk Talk being played at the end.
It was Sparklehorse at the end
17.25 is Talk Talk - Inheritance.
Rebecca's hot. And she knows her shit.
So basically Sigur Ros is a pretty basic band!
I swear to god loopstation setings was censored in this video. I wonder why they removed blur
Great interview
We Swedes don't use lopapeysa sweaters, eat whale or make as beautiful music as the Icelanders.
And we don't have Eyjafjallajökull.
Now sure why but this video is really making me feel like a pepsi right now.
I’m gonna have to build a copy of Jonsi’s Les Paul.. I’m using a cello bow on my SG and right now I’m using Dunlop 10-52s because that’s what Robin Trower uses but I need thicker strings. I found some D’Addario 12-60s. I also use my SG for normal strumming so I have to clean off the rosin dust. Looking for a cheap Les Paul our a DIY kit or even just parts to build from scratch.
it helps having a guitar with a smaller radius like 7.25"
Great video and interview. Wonderful stuff. What a find. Thanks so much.
Jonsi's set up secret... 356 differents kind of booster
I have the feeling this tech doesn't want to say much, lol
What is the song playing in the background at 1:05?
Constructed out of a reclaimed cricket bat
I hear Mike Doughty in the background.
it makes sense. he meant if you go back to regular guitar playing, the rosin clogs up the strings and makes them darker. it happens.
But what kind of rosin does he use to make those unique sounds?
on the tuner pedal of the second guitarist there's a sticker saying 'osmurdur'. can't find the translation anywhere, can anyone tell me what it means?)) thanks
It's a inside joke from his main band "For a Minor Reflection" and means un-lubed, as in, well you know :D
What's the point of the orange tape on the pedals? It doesn't seem to serve any purpose.
I bet till now he already changed his pedalboard many times,it read somewhere he uses Strymon reverb and so on.this is not very accurate but for the times it was done yes it was
Nope still the same reverb live. But the pedal board has changed a bit. There are different drive pedals on it know.
But it is true that he has and sometimes uses a Strymon Reverb in the studio.
Are the knobs on the RC20 blurred out at 9:45? Why? You can still see the notches anyway...
I imagine it's just so that he can see where the switches are a little better when it's dark.
how was he unpleasant? he seemed like a really cool and friendly dude.
this tech is cool
Wow I watched the entire video before I realized it was at UIC Pavillion in 2013, which is the show I attended this year!
Yeah I found out about that later, sorry for that.
the more i watch these videos, the less because the rig, it's because Rebecca Rundown!
Dirks knows what DiMarzio polepieces look like. HOT.
In that case, you would be an amazing tech. As you're very unpleasant yourself!
I think he doesn't want to reveal some of his settings, as it is his sound/tone.
Really cool, could you do neil young and crazyhorse? ;)
Is that soul coughing i hear in the back ground?
I am so amazed by them. I listened to the song Isjaki and now Im trying to get a bow.
cello bow is actually shorter length
doughty jammin in the background. nice.
He is really gentle and She is very tense.
he bought the resin in Indonesia LOL
I too would love a Godspeed You Black Emporer rig rundown.
Very interesting info ... thanks!
Great, I was ready to go to bed and then this showed up.
He looks like the dude from the movie hang over haha
i really want to know why stuff in censored in this
What makes the magic again please? ;) Wonderfull vid btw!
And yet, he chose to speak about it like he did.
She pronounced his name wrong. Thats it, im done.
I was at this show as well. This man speaks the truth, the band was incredible.
why are the settings for the boss rc20 censored?
because I asked them to
I need that sigur ros crew tshirt
God Rebbeca Dirks stop.......
he's a guitar tech. I'd be surprised if he did.
Falling in reverse rundown would be cool o;
The guy in the suit made that guitar! Cool!!
