My Dear Ashlena,
I can hardly believe we discovered this artist at about the same time. I subscribed to your channel three weeks ago because I found you genuine, with a high level of integrity, fierce independence and a great lover of music. I, fortunately have had the time and inclination to find the dimonds in this rabbit hole. Unfortunately for you, you have had to limit your exposure. A full decade plus since these performances, You have heard the brilliance of her new work. A reactor friend of mine had an epiphany over the weekend and I quote, "The more I listen, the more I pay attention, the more I get surprised and astonished at the level of this human being. My God!, is she cut differant, from all of us, from all of us." We have seen and heard nothing yet, for what she will create in the future. Always your humble friend Rb
Richard, you have been nothing but the sweetest. Thanks for sticking around even though sometimes I might not enjoy something others do 🥰
@@ashlenamusic I've made a point to others of your talents and dedication to music. The road ahead will be filled with the depth of beauty in sound, that I could hardly have imagined a month ago. Rb
@@RichardBourne❤❤❤🎉👍🏻👍🏻🫶
@RichardBourne I just adore you xx
Excellent reaction. Thank you very much for seeing what a lot of us see in her. A once in a life time voice
No problem!
She chooses songs, arranges her work, since age 12 writing too. Her mom whom you saw at the middle of the 1st performance was in tears watching on the studio monitor... ** Not for the reason you said** Her Mom said she knew at the moment she would have to share her daughter with the rest of the world. Her family held her back from fame, only allowed to perform during school breaks/summers. They allowed no promotion. Refused to sign with labels after NGT, even pre-AGT (lack of signed contract with Simon is why not the Final AGT winner despite golden buzzer and 3 amazing performances, age 13). A year after she recorded AGT, at 14 she signed with Republic, but again the contract agreed to stipulated go slow, no promotion, etc. She released 2 singles, around a dozen You tube full production covers via Republic, and many TikTok performances (her music lab) , etc. Now @ 17 as you know she just released her EP Album "OLD ENOUGH" basically throwing down she is ready to be "known" by more then her Millions of fans whom followed her despite her relative anonymity. Not sure you're aware of her charitable work having raised millions for Charity with benefit concerts starting age 8, She gave away her 50K NGT prize money to charity. When she was 6 and traveling in the middle east she took her favorite boots off her own feet and gave them to a homeless girl she met, this is why she performs barefoot (at age 9 she also published a book about the experience).
She does wonderful things. Her Ep is so good I’m excited to hear her album
These 4 performances are very important if you want to know Angelina's background, the choice of pieces has always been Angelina's for the love she had for jazz from a very young age, I have listened to these songs dozens of times and every time tears of amazement, joy and disbelief, in the a cappella piece Angelina proves to have an incredible musicality, the vibratos are the most beautiful I've ever heard, special thanks Ashlena, your reaction is pure gold to my ears, good life. .Massimo🤩
Thanks🥰
I have watched this set of NGA performances too many times to count, and will continue to do so...she is just that wonderful. And over time I have learned that this lovely little girl has a heart and soul full of love, and better still, she is in love with all of us, using her gorgeous voice to capture our hearts with her message. I know, because I feel it every time I hear her sing, and I know too that I am not alone with this feeling.
Love that!!! 🥰 music is such a wonderful gift to humanity
Loved the reactions. She’s incredible isn’t she. In reference to your question about who is picking her songs well it’s actually Angelina, even at that age. She’s always had creative freedom, that’s one of the many factors that makes her a savant
Yes. Angelina picked all the songs for the competition.
So amazing
What can one say. She is a marvel.
Great reactions. You are quickly becoming one of my favorites. Thanks.
Appreciate that🥹
Amazing. Every time I watch this (and it has been a lot) I am just as amazed, if not more so, than the time before.
Where you have been... under a rock... sleeping.. AJ is incredible ❤️
Yes under a rock in the north
@@ashlenamusic I was under a similar rock down south. 😄 Rb
Selected, arranged, and performed by the artist. When it comes to her music, she is the percipitating force.
Angelina picks her own songs!🎼🤗
Great reaction.
In an interview with one of the judges after the end of the competition he said that after her first two performances they knew she was a great singer but they didn’t know if she was just a good mimicker or a true artist. He said that when he came across a rehearsal for Bang Bang and saw her discussing with the guitarist about how she wanted to do the song and how she wanted him to play he said they knew she was the real deal.
I really enjoyed this reaction. About you crying as a mom, the blond woman you saw crying is Sara, Angelina’s mom. She said watching her daughter that night she realized she had lost her to the world. BUT, after winning NGT, mom, grandma, and other fam allowed Angelina to develop her prodigious talent while sheltering her from commercial exploitation. They made sure she worked with talented musicians, and performed at many charity and special events, and recorded dozens of home sessions to share with an increasing fan base. They signed with Republic Records when she was 14 on condition she not be promoted til after high school but could continue making her own RUclips videos and two originals under the label. That’s why you hadn’t heard about her.
When Angelina graduated this spring, she was “old enough” to begin her career, hence the title of her EP.
Love it
Her Summertime performance giving me chills upon chills ❤️ Did you hear how she sung the word DAD the second time ? Oh, its heals my soul, girl 🔥❤️ And yeah, she is 8 years old 😳😳😳
I didn't that's so sweet
She won Norway got talent with 46 percent of the vote wild bill angel 😇 since 2016
With 'roots' in jazz, the musical tree grows strong. We have witnessed throughout all her covers, and now most recently on her new EP!
Cute... that acapella performance was insane 😳😳😳❤️🔥 But ofcourse i know what you mean ❤️ When you go deeper in to her catalogue you will see that almost every song is made for her... and why.. because she is that damn good ❤️❤️❤️
There was a break in the shooting, when the competition began she was seven at the start and when she sang Summertime she was eight.. You can see her teeth had come in.. As amazing as Angelina sounds she gets exponentially more advanced and refined in her singing every year( which continues to this day and is why you thought she sounded louder..
8 yrs old and she sings 'Summertime' better than 98% of the singers on the planet today. Her first true Masterpiece in my opinion. 🙂♥👣🔥
It’s pretty amazing the growth and development of her voice over the few months span of the competition. Less than a year later after the end of the show she records her epic performance of I Put a Spell On You.
Yeah I preferred these over I put a spell on you
@@ashlenamusic I also prefer these over I Put a Spell on You. Your reactions were perfect.
That's very sweet thank you xx
Angelina chooses all of the songs she performs.
'Whoever chose this song for Angelina was brilliant. Angelina chose the song. Everything dealing with Angelina's music is either 100% hers or she is the decision maker. We just learned from Angelina, she has written over 100 songs and we have heard 11 of them. Angelina is carving a path in music history with her the only one near that lane.
Does she say somewhere that she chose all the songs for this show? That’s so cool
Hey Andy. I understand you're a #1 Angelina fan and I value all the support you give her and her career. We should be leary of blanket statements. While I'm sure she doesn't perform a song she doesn't like, I'll disagree with your statement that 100% of everything is Angelina. This discounts the positive influences of the grandmother and parents. Of all the hard work her uncle Mike has done on her behalf as her manager. It discounts the influence of Grammy winner Rob Christie from Republic. Stargate worked as the producer for Million Miles and had lots of influence on the final release. That's how she learns. They mentor her. The huge decision to relocate an entire family to a new country to further her career was not 12 year old Angelina's decision alone.
Many many positive influences and collaborators have already worked with Angelina.
@@ClifftheBigRedDoggy I greatly appreciate your comment and agree with you. It was late at night and I fell back into superfandom. Of course there are many who have helped Angelina with her music.
@@andyschnell58 I'd be curious which of the songs on the Old Enough EP is your favorite. Mine seems to keep changing. I've seen a few refer to Diamonds as the #1 song. They tend to be younger and I don't disagree.
@@ClifftheBigRedDoggy I can't choose a favorite. Each song keeps getting better for me. Angelina's lyrics are remarkable and she takes us through a journey of love lost and then rebounds to turn the pain into a positive and move forward. She is a diamond shining brighter all the time.
Really enjoyed this. Excellent 🍁. Your observation thst her voice matured by the end is bang on. Angelina's first audition song was at age 7. The acapella song (#2) was to help narrow down the number of finalists. In these first two songs she has one fromt tooth. There is a gap in time before they move to the final shows. For the last 2 songs she is older and her tooth is almost grown in. When she wins she has turned 8. I agree thag Angelina would have had guidance on what songs to perform. Often the shows producers decide. I think Angelina would have been happy singing 4 Billie Holiday songs. Again, excellent reaction 🍁
Great reaction my dear 👌🏻👌🏻 all these songs are her choises… she is pure Jazz 👸🏻🎙👣
Love that
Here is a quote from Angelina (7y) from an interview with TV2 after her Auditions NTG 2014. "The reason I chose this song is completely random. I love jazz, but" Gloomy Sunday "was random. It was a night I could not sleep and my mother was stressed that I was awake long after midnight. Then I borrowed my mom's iPad where I wanted to listen to jazz on RUclips before I fell asleep. Then came a picture of a beautiful lady screaming at the sky and with her eyes closed. I heard the song "Gloomy Sunday" that night and then I had to hear it every day. I love the melody. I understood well what the text was about because I know English well. Every time I sang it I felt something special about it, it's hard to explain in words. When I sang it for mom, she said that this song is nice, but that it was incredibly sad song. " ♥👣👸🏻🎷
Excellent information!
I believe it is important to understand that Angelina is the driving force behind her musical journey and that all of the choices are hers.
@@todradmaker4297 To a degree she does. For example, on Million Miles, they had Angelina work with the Grammy Award winning duo, Stargate who produced the song. You can bet they had a lot of input in the final version. That's how children learn.
To say she has all the say discounts her grandmother and mothers positive influence. Against Angelina's wishes, her mother made her re-write the lyrics to Back to Black. It wasn't her choice
Her uncle Mike is also her manager, and works hard to help guide her and create the environment for her to mature. Including the entire family relocating to Los Angeles. Angelina didn't have the final say when she was still 12.
Grammy piano player and Republic VP, Rob Christie has worked tirelessly with Angelina to help, guide and nurture her. He's played on many of her videos. Angelina is very driven, works incredibly hard and deserves all the success she will have. However, she is not working alone and calling all the shots.
@@ClifftheBigRedDoggy All of that is absolutely true. When people say all the arrangements are hers that is an exaggeration. Angelina has worked with some of the best in the industry but these are professional. They handle the arrangement that the song calls for in their own way as individual musicians. I'm sure KORK did that whole musical arrangement. Angelina absolutely does have input and has a vision of what she wants and she conveys that to them in a way that gives her the results we have. I've seen her make changes that she needs to produce that vision which we are privy to. Her rehearsals are very revealing in how she works. And I've seen conductors asking for her input to their production. When she was young and was faced with an unfamiliar orchestra she made her displeasure known to her Uncle Michael and he let them know what she wanted and needed. And she has been the guiding force in all phases of career. Of that there can be no doubt and I do believe she has the final say in everything she sings. That's how you work with other musicians. And now under the personal guidance of Rob Christy and working with a topnotch team of professional including input from some of the best songwriters in the industry. She's been seen with some of these in her Tic Tocs.🙂♥👣🔥
@@ClifftheBigRedDoggy If you noticed, I posted that response to Ole Olson's story about how she chose to sing Gloomy Sunday for her audition. It was also in response to the reactor's question of "who ever is her coach and picking out these songs". I wanted to clarify that she isn't being pushed into singing and what style to sing. This is what Angelina wants to do and how she wants to do it. What I meant by "choice" is that it is her idea and desire. And I didn't intend to dismiss any influences or collaborations in her journey by saying "all of the choices are hers".
Yes, a big part of Angelina's genius is her musical knowledge and awareness. She KNOWS music, even at this age: she picked all her own songs, arranged them for her voice, then delivered absolutely stunning performances (live, in a single take, in front of a studio audience plus a live TV audience, confidently and with amazing vocal control). This would have been impressive for ANY vocalist -- but for a 7- or 8-year-old? She's simply unbelievable.
Ashlena, I really enjoyed this reaction to all four of Angelina's performances on NGT from 2014. "Whoever chose this for her is brilliant." I agree, Angelina is brilliant! By the way, you will find yourself saying again and again with Angelina, "her voice is perfect for this song." It's astonishing how many different types of songs and genres she can adapt her voice to and sing beautifully as if she was born to sing just that particular song or genre.
Totally agree ❤️
I sometimes (more than I should) think reactors relatively new to Angelina should know and understand more fully what they are hearing/seeing. Most of them are already far beyond where my limited comprehension had me, at their level of exposure. I want them to binge watch and catch up in a week or two instead of being like me and having my awareness slowly broadened over a period of years. I think this reactor shows real promise.
Hi Ashlena. So happy you did all of these at once. Yes, Angelina really killed "Bang, Bang!" You are thinking of Nancy Sinatra's cover of Cher's original "Bang, Bang." Nancy *totally* changed Cher's original, which did well on the charts, but pales now compared to Nancy's cover. Angelina has publicly claimed Nancy to be one of her big influences. Because Nancy taught Angelina that original songs can sometimes be made better? Well, we'll never know, but I certainly think so. And I completely loved how taken you were with the opening of "Summertime." That was my own introduction to Angelina years ago, and she musically wrapped me around her little finger just by singing the first word of that song. Everything after that just tightened the knot. Thanks so much, Ashlena.
Dear Ashlena. And please with all respect. I love you. Angelina chooses her own songs. The only restriction I see her family taking is a song with lyrics that are inappropriate for a child. And Angelina's answer to that is to paraphrase. OK I'll just rewrite the lyrics how about that. You got that recording tomorrow. You won't have time. Angelina; Hold my shoes. Thus we have 'Back to Black' and 3 or 4 other Amy songs with Angelina's rewritten lyrics. Musical genius & no fear. Nobody tells Angelina what to sing. 🙂♥👣🔥

@@Mercury6_it’s about time! No one should underestimate Angelina Jordan Astar.😊❤
"My god, she was made for this song!"
As I've watched Angelina grow, I think you have it backwards.
Every song was made for Angelina.
She can sing ANYTHING!
Singing ability: 10/10 Cuteness: 10/10 Teeth: 9/20
lol
Out of the 10 acts that participated, we have a 7 year old girl, going on 8 as the contest continues, who decides
to sing four 'jazz genre' songs that are not in her first language. The end result is that at the end of the contest
Angelina accumulated 48% of the total votes cast, spanning all ages of people throughout Norway. 'Remarkable'
doesn't even begin to properly describe this feat, for it goes far beyond that. It doesn't matter what age you are,
or what language you speak, for once she begins to sing she places the listener in some kind of a trance that
has them wanting more and more.
What an amazing reaction to the full NGT journey. Thanks for sharing your insights, Ashlena! I know that many of these talent shows have mandated song choices, but I've always heard of Angelina that she picks her own material. She was a huge Billie Holiday fan from a very, very young age, and to have two Billie Holiday songs in her journey is at least a clue that she may have chosen all four songs for herself. She's just a remarkable human being. The new EP is fantastic, btw! Diamond and All My Fault are standouts, but everything on it is incredible.
That's Got Talent, not X Factor, so there are no coaches, the contestens (not just singers, all kind of talents) are on their own. The younger male judge later told in an interview, that the jury was of course aware that she was good from the beginning, but not sure how much was mimicking, compared to true musical ability. Then they saw her rehearsing Bang Bang, where she exactly advised the guitar player how she wanted hin to play it for her, so then they were shure she's the real deal.
Here's a link to the interview with English subtitles, it starts at about a minute into the clip: ruclips.net/video/2I5GgH7EDJw/видео.html&pp=iAQB
Accident!
For 'Summertime', she sang the first verse twice. The first time was to demonstrate how to sing it beautifully and the second time is to show us what SHE can do with it. She's showing off but it is the finals of a competition. The contrast between the first time and the second time is what blows everyone away. When, during the second time with the first verse, she sings "Your Daaaaaaaaaaady's..." is the most beautiful note in the world. She does not have a coach. She had training at her TAG school and she arranges her own music. She is a musical prodigy like Mozart. She is singing in a language that is not her native language so she is a genius.
Love that
Here is what she said about how she chose Gloomy Sunday for NGT (she was 7): - The reason I chose this song is totally random. I love jazz, but " Gloomy Sunday " was accidental. It was a night I could not sleep and my mom was stressed that I was awake long after midnight. Then I borrowed mum's iPad where I would listen to jazz on RUclips before I fell asleep. Then came a picture of a beautiful lady screaming at the sky and closed eyes. I am talking about jazz queen Billie Holiday, she said to the Norwegian television channel TV 2. I heard the song "Gloomy Sunday " that night and then I had to hear it every day. I love the melody. I understood very well what the text was about because I understand English. Every time I sang it, I felt something special about it, it's hard to explain in words. When I sang it for my mom, she said that this song is nice, but it was an incredibly sad song.
So crazy
Her mom, the blonde backstage, is crying because she is going to have to share her daughter with the world.
She selects what she sings , it`s all her
Great, thanks! I just noticed your "Mount Everest" design so you should check out Angelina's surprise (not included in the sound check attended by die-hard fans) opening performance of the song! Yes, she softened the lyrics but it's a really fun live performance! ruclips.net/video/DYVxnY06BWw/видео.html
So fun to see your reactions. For those who, like me, think the final song Summertime has a bit too much vibrato, check out her outdoor sunset performance about six months after winning the NGT. So raw and relaxed: ruclips.net/video/X6i-U-ZvZdg/видео.html
I believe I Just watched that one and it'll be up in a couple days!
@@ashlenamusic Angelina did another, more fully classical version, at 10 with a syphonic orcestra "KORK" (The Norwgian Radio Broadcasting Orcestra).
