My Doctor said the sleeve was the best for me. I was 64 and had diabetes. At 8 months out. Down 80 lbs. At my goal. I feel great and off all my medications.

PS.. 3 family members had all these.. the sleeve, duodenal switch, and RNY. I also have friends who've had the sleeve and RNY. Most have had great success!! I'm so excited for their success, but deep inside, it make me sad that mine isn't nearly as successful due to the post I posted above and issues.

I had the RNY Aug 2020.. in 6 months I lost nearly 60 lbs it seemed to go very slow. Then 6 months out I hit a very bad plateau as well as a severe ulcerative Colitis flare in which I'm still battling. It's now pancolitis and I'm on biologics and IV Infusions. My GI has put me on Prednisone which I was told by my weightloss surgeon not to be allowed, etc. I ended up gaining back roughly 20 lbs, but I'm back down and finally lost it again... But still fighting to lose weight against my medications my drs and specialists keep prescribing. Its absolutely upsetting. I've worked so so hard for all of this! I never got the honeymoon phase either. I also have PCOS and other things. I'm just so frustrated and I don't understand how I can not be taking in very many calories, yet not losing weight or actually GAINING weight??!? How!!?? It makes absolutely NO sense to me.
Due to my pancolitis.. there is a risk that I may have to have my large intestines removed.. the thing is, obviously I don't want an ostomy bag for the rest of my life so I'm praying that I can still have a j pouch even with my RNY if worse came to worse..
I also don't think my rny surgeon reconnected my small intestines "far enough down" to bypass enough. I believe he said they did only 40 cm? Or was that mm? Can't quite remember, but I do recall it being told it was on the lower end which was very disappointing to me after all the hard work and months in the program I was in.
I've literally always struggled with my weight regardless of eating healthy. I do also have hormonal issues as stated before and pancolitis and a few other things that may contribute to why my body just says no to losing weight very well. I honestly wish there was a better solution. I feel like I've been ripped off in a way. I don't understand why my body is betraying me especially when I know dang well how much I truly am busting my butt. 🥺 It's absolutely heartbreaking!

I'm sorry to hear about what you are going through. The amount of intestine bypassed has little to do with weight loss. It's more likely that prednisone is the cause of your slowed weight loss.

Keep up with the heathly eating program. I have also had problems, but not because of the surgery. I have fatty liver disease with Watermelon stomach. That causes bleeding. You can look it up. But follow up with your doctor regularly

I was going to get bariatric surgery in 2010 but I backed up 3 times and was already in the process of getting my surgery done I wasn’t obese that’s why I backed up on my surgery day i was really young and I was this close to getting into the process I did the process of bariatric surgery like 3 times I even did the classes, the testing and etc, but till this day my dr still offers me bariatric surgery and weight loss injections ‘ I did my research about bariatric surgery, gastric sleeve and gastric bypass for many years now 😌

The fact that there are several different procedures for metabolic surgery means that the issue is complex and no one size fits all as well w there is no consensus amongst the surgical community. Hence the procedure has to be individualized. RGB should work in severe obesity, GERD smokers and poorly controlled diabetes.
