When tapping the holes out I was always taught 1 turn forward, .5 turn back, saves breaking taps, also get a magnet in a poly bag to collect the and metal filings.
If that's the standard of paintwork in your engine bay and weed hatch, I can't wait to see what the rest will be like. I'd be tempted to pack the gap between the top of the runners and the hatch, that's a lot of weight on those bolts. Keep up the good work.
Cheers George, Yeah we will give that a go. Eventually the wood insert on the whole of hatch will pack it out but for now i will put a temporary wedge in. Not that impressed with the runners so been thinking about another idea. Ill keep you all posted if we change it
The Primer on ours is a Zinc primer. Its a good primer but primer shouldn't really be left too long as its not weatherproof. Ideally the undercoat and topcoat should go on as quick as possible. Our boat came out of the boat shed in the middle of winter so its a wait for good weather im afraid. Our primer on all parts of the boat that doesn't get any wear and tear is in good nick but areas that have had materials scraped across them or metals have scraped together have needed covering with oxide or more primer until we are ready to sand down and paint. Wont be long before we start painting
Hi Martin, Not sure if you have been able to see my reply but for some reason a lot of my replies are not showing up on here so here goes again. Yeah I think some people have used that. Ive read and watched people using garage floor paint etc but we wanted to stick to Narrowboat paint as we dont know enough about how other paint reacts to the surroundings, environment and on steel. You can buy additives to mix into the paint or add on top of the paint like i did with sand but many narrowboat owners and painters use sand from what ive seen. Going to give it a good testing in the engine bay first before we do the roof and decide what we will use
Thats strange, Ive just noticed a lot of my replies are not showing up. So I will attempt them again but apologies if you are seeing them twice haha. Anyway Kiwi Gazza you have twisted our arms and this week we are treating ourselves to a tripod. We try and film up close if we can so viewers can see what we are doing rather than our bodies in the way so didn't want to use a tripod but you are right. When we are trying to cram in hours of footage into a short film it has to be speeded up quite a bit and that is hard on the eyes. So going to try both close up and tripod and see how we go. You wont see the benefits from it for a few weeks as our vlogs go out a while after completing the work. Thankyou for your input
Proper tools ,proper hardware and proper techniques love your work sir
Cheers 👍
What a great looking engine bay. You could eat your Dinner off it. Impressed.
Thankyou, Nice to admire it before it gets grimy once the engine is in

We always seem to see so much rust on pre-primed newly built boats. What is it they use?
You’re doing a great job!

What a bugga if you had made a spelling mistake.. Great vids as usual...
yeah I know. Kept doubting myself all the way through haha. Cheers!
Dont mount the stern tube greaser on that cross member. Get an extension kit and mount it further forward where you can get at it easier.
OK Neil, Will definitely look into that cheers mate
👍👍👍
Cheers Carole 😍
Can you not buy non slip paint? I remember getting some for my small boat years ago.
