Very informative video, a great watch. Shame about the audio levels, absolutely shocking, voice is quiet and then suddenly booming loud music, basics to get right.
Love your videos Rob. I'm getting back into fishing after a long break and always seek out your content as I'm sure to get some brilliant insights, they really help.
loved the video Rob, 18 years ago I used to train beginner divers at wraysbury on a weekend but wasn't in to fishing at the time. I'm astounded by the visibility you have there as most of the time you were lucky to have anything more than a metre to see in front of you. this was brilliant when you did the rescue diver courses as most people had done their other courses abroad and never had to deal with the conditions in wraysbury
Loved it. Be interested to see different leaders on the bottom. And also the large pva bag stems that are in vogue. I worry they will land funny and leave your line sticking up at an odd angle.
Good vid Rob.... Wraysbury was never that easy back when I fished it in the mid 90s. You caught more in a single session than we'd catch in a whole season 🤣
Thank you Rob for a very informative and detailed video. I’ve only been fishing for 18months but am already landing some very nice carp but probably more by luck than judgement. This video has given me an insight into the importance of leading about and finding ‘the’ spot and I think I have more confidence and a better understanding of how to do it now, too many fish lost in the last few weeks in very weedy lakes! My partner will be delighted that I’m ready to move onto this skill, slowly slowly for me 👍🏻😁
@@DynamiteBaitsTV id love to see 1 in lakes with the blue dye as most near me have it and it kind of throws you off when you get their lol, cheers lads great videos
Now and again i trap the line above the buzzer and give the line a ping to clear partials from the line, you can see a small cloud leave the line as you do it.
Great vid very informative 👍 do you think carp actually see colour or is it more the contrast of you’re hookbait depending on the colour of the lake bed and water?
Very good footage, but has made some simple things out to be a drama. Its carp fishing, sometimes you catch if they are hungry, other times you don't. You can over think fishing so so so much. But what ever floats you boat. Happy clubbing season :)
Rob great vid yet again. I will be doing my PADI course soon and would like you to list your dive gear you use for my reference if possible if you get the chance !!!
Very good video. I think you should do more detailed spomb dropping video. Record various numbers of spombs landing around marker from a drone. Then view underwater for coverage. Get a true indication of how much bait does what.
There's a good video on RUclips where Rob covers the exact topic you're interested in. Just search underwater answers 2 with Rob Hughes. It was uploaded 18 Dec 2017
Hi, I've got a question and it hasn't been answered as far as I'm aware!. Let me see if i can word this correct, so when your spodding is there any conditions where the bait drifts away during its way down? So when its flat calm we all know your bait travels straight down and spreads out the deeper the water. But would undertow be worth thinking about on a windy day? And will the bait you using make a difference? For example 2mm pellet will sink alot slower than a boilie so will it drift further away?
I would like to see how chod rigs are presented when fishing at range and slack lines are not an option, particularly if you are fishing at range where there is a lot of undertow. At what range is sufficient for the line angle to be acute enough to present a chod rig and how slack do the lines need to be? Is a chod rig even fishable when the tows are too strong and putting bows in the line etc? Be interesting to see how and if undertow effects line lay.
thanks for the comments Karl I think rob is planning to cover this in the next couple of Understanding Underwater vids including bite indication and slack and tight lines.
I do try to take up your advice Rob, but, after cast 4 or 5 with the marker trying to find that flat spot I usually get a gob full from other carpers on the lake for disturbing and spooking, I can never seem to win.
Most likely covid carpers that don't know what they're doing you cast as many times as u like to find your spot ur session you paid to be there crack on! And good luck on your angling!
Question you said you have put bait over your swim when you showed your rig under water was no bait atall and how did you get undressed so quick and back in same clothes to catch the fish
hi Dave, Tel is very much still on the team. He talks a lot about which Dynamite products he uses and how he uses it in some of his latest ESP videos so to cover the same topics again would be a bit pointless. Having said that we may be featuring Tel in one of our videos soon. he's always very busy campaigning his waters. :)
As you can see from the film, I dived the general area before to have a look at the lake bed generally, but not to find the spot. I then specifically dived the spot after I'd found it to see if it matched what I thought was coming back through the marker.
Lee Litchfield when he put 5 Spods out you couldn’t see hardly any bait, so imagine if the lake is boilie and pellet only you will need to spom out way more
Thanks Dan. Short range they're not always necessary. I believe in the rule of common sense. I think most people are grown up enough to know what they should or shouldn't do
Rob Hughes TV as someone who works with the general public I have to disagree and say you’re wrong with regards to common sense but we can all hope. Keep up the good work 👍🏼🎣
Really nice Video, but for why do you need the Marker, to look for the bottom, if you dived there and have the information you need i think didnt unterstand this right? Shoudnt be offending or something just a question;)
I heard if you lift your feet up in the water you won’t sink but I’m not willing to try it! A lot of the videos you see the people are wearing waders out in boats I really don’t get it.
When waders fill with water They weigh no more or less than your clothes because water weighs the same in water regardless. Its only heavy when you get out of the water
Thanks for the safety advice. I've spent a reasonable amount of time in boats and have a fair amount of experience. These were belted gore tex breathable stocking foot waders. Loads of anglers wear them in boats. Fly anglers and pred anglers especially and very frequently. You'll also have seen a life jacket as well..... but thanks for the input. Did you enjoy the film.
While this interesting, it just frustrates me that there's so much weed in my local lake that, without perfect planning, I'm likely to just be sat in a place I won't catch anything. In fact, it begs the question: why don't more of us simply use a controller float and put bait mid-water where it's completely visible and out of weed?!
So use black foam in clear water because it's the most visable but use a black marker float in clear water because it's the least visable? There's just no answer is there aha
Good point. However to clarify, black is harder to see from distance as it blends in, but when you get closer to it it does stand out, as will the others. I think black zigs are easier to pick out than yellow when close. Plus remember the marker float tips are day-glo. The other thing to consider with zigs is that the fish will usually be looking up at them and it silhouettes better when seen from below. Red zigs work very well too which also confirms that the red end stands out more under water.
They swim with me all the time. I've actually been in the water with them in some lakes when they are feeding. Most of the time they're no scared at all. They don't associate wee with danger

Depends on the bait mainly but I'll look at this next time we're out. Heavy stuff is not affected.
