Awesome video (as always)! You should swap out the foot switch for one like I used on my Fool’s Gold pedal: ruclips.net/user/shortsN6IxUV_k8Ug?feature=shared
Awesome build, thanks! For a future build is there any chance of doing an analog circuit in pedal form that can drive a spring reverb tank like the AnaSounds Element?
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that retouches the solder joints on the top side of the board. It drives me crazy when I see those pads on top with a shallow dab of solder that doesn't make a little solder mountain with the part leg.
There are a dozen of us who care about things that NO ONE will ever see. I know the connection on the bottom will work fine, but I insist on making sure it is uniform on every pad.
Is there a reason why you solder from both sides? I've never done this before. Also what's type of ... Clamp... Did you use to hold the PCB in place? Thank you for the content
Ideally the solder flows to both sides of the PCB and makes nice filets of solder on both pads, but this depends a lot on the size of the holes, gauge of the leads, etc. It's mostly just for aesthetics, older PCBs will often only have copper on one side. Here is the PCB holder, not sure if it's exactly this brand, but the same idea: www.aventools.com/adjustable-circuit-board-holder
Lovely build Joe. I looked up those golden caps and see they're specifically intended for audio applications, though I guess this very much depends on where they sit in the signal path. There's a video idea anyway, what's important to think about when specifying electrolytics, and do the newer polymer electrolytics make any sense for guitar pedals? The promise of ultra low ESR and nothing to dry out certainly seems appealing!
gold rat sounded way better! it retained clarity even when distorted. great build! was cool to see you work i learned a couple things
You all just got a “free” class in building…. Something some sell for 200 a class. So go buy the man’s pedal.
Dude said clean tone…haha
The Golden Rat...io 🙂

BTW, I like the Aion Rat better than the Proco Rat!
You're a modern day King Midas on this build Joe.

*I love gooollllddd, the look of it, the taste of it, the smell of it, the tone of it, I even had my fuzzes transistors replaced with gold*

Been soldering things for 40 years and I have never been aware of this technique. Now that I am I will be doing this from now on.
Serious? I just ordered the Aion FX kit for this one. My lm308 is just a boring normal one though..
$99 with free shipping? My man... Seems like $200 would have been a better starting point.. Maybe $300? Great video though!

Just need the gold footswitch lol
Nice vid, thanks Joe. I prefer the Golden Rat....

The sounds are so deluxe! I forgot what I was watching……
Hahahaha I’m so pissed I missed out on buying this 😂
That's gold, Jerry! Gold!

You could get a gold footswitch cap (barefoot button?) for it :)
Ah so true! Missed opportunity for more gold...
The Golden Rat is awesome
Beautifully built!
great build ...awesome channel ...plenty of stuff to watch
