Great video, i like how your edits were subtle and smooth and not overdone even a bit. One of the major issues i face during edits is over processing the images.
Thanks Trond for this video I’ve been using Lr for quite some time now but I have to admit I’ve learned something new from this video. Awesome editing tutorial.
Really Nice and subtile edit:) Would love to see a video descussing your gear and especially the 300 2.8, it seems like a lot of wildlife photographers, at least on youtube, goes with the 300pf but i would think the 2.8 to be more versatile accepting converters better and giving you the 2.8 option whitout being too heavy mabye? Lokking forward to the next field video:)
Hello Trond, enjoyed this tutorial, it has inspired me to get out and try harder with my stills photography. Like you,I am spellbound by Buzzards, and have been observing them for many years,so I have taken some shots over the last few days from my hide and have put together a small selection. They are not up to your supreme standard, but I'm not very familiar with raw file editing, but your channel has given me a boost. I hope you don't mind, but I am going to mention you in my description in my next upload. I am usually a video shooter for RUclips, so a slideshow is a first for me, and it's all down to you. It's not easy learning new skills when you are well into your 60s, but I've still got the passion and enthusiasm, thank you so much for your passion and enthusiasm, but also for sharing all that you accomplish. Keep it up !!! Phil.
Great video as always Trond ;) thats an amazing light at the background, You editted it very well ;) really like the effect. Cant whait for another video from the field ;) good Job
I'm using Lightroom 4.4 because it's not subscription. Do you think that's a decent version to use for editing bird shots? Or do I really need to update? I like how your editing is very subtle.
@@topscaryvideo9460 if you buy the grip for the higher framerate, you also need a d5 battery and a charger for that. Just so you are aware, it costs quite a bit. In the past you could use AA batteries for the same effect (I still do on my d700), where rechargables are a lot cheaper - but I don't know if you still can. Their life is pretty short compared to even an enel15, so if you still can use AA for the framerate boost make sure you buy at least enough for three complete sets (which will still be cheaper than a d5 battery, but also still last less together than a single d5 battery charge.)
@@scriptosaurusrex you definitely have to get the D5 battery to get 9fps. The genuine Nikon grip, battery chamber, battery and charger worked out to be about $1300 AUD (over 800 EUR!!). It's a massive hit to the pocket but worth it I think. The D5 battery lasts forever by compared to the EN-EL15a
Hi Trond! Great video, and photograph! I'm new to photo editing - how do you know which resolution to export a photo with? How come your exported with only 76ppi? Doesn't a higher resolution give a better quality image? Thanks :)
Hi Trond it is Interesting to see how you post process your images, both images are very good and little to choose from one another. The only thing I would have done differently would be to have slightly less area above the squirrel which then stops the eye from wondering off the main subject, it is only a personal preference, thanks for sharing. 👏👏👏👍
Thanks a lot. And thanks for your opinion on composition :) My thoughts on the composition is that I wanted to include the reflection in the background. But like you said. Its only personal preference. Thanks for writing :)
Tack!
Do you ever submit to the big competitions? Because (and no shade, I am just curious) this edit would probably breach the rules. Obviously a client you are selling to doesn't care. I don't sell and don't submit either (I mean, I have in the past but not gone anywhere...), but tend to stick to competition standards when editing - but maybe I am just being a lazy so and so.... Haha
I do sometimes, but when I do I keep the editing to the rules. I am guessing you think about the cloning part? I dont see this picture as image good enough for competition. But when I do, I dont clone. And if I do I tell them, and they will decide. Some competitions also has rules of how much you can crop.
@@trondwestby it was the crop first, then the extensive colour work (vibrance and basic sat is probably fine in most cases) and the clone that made me ask the question. Obviously didn't want to suggest you would submit an image with that much editing. As I say I was very much curious :)
Thanks for aother interesting video. I have only one remark: you should use PS in english. As Portuguese I do not understand Norwegian and I cannot follow your explanations on my PS.
man I do not think you actually know what you do on the pict. Your photos are good and some excellent !! but your post process methods are not. I tell you that because of your followers will do the same. For now you are not editing on a way that is technically and chronology correct but it seems you are driven by the software instead ....
Dont worry all who are waiting for another "in the field" video. Next week it will be :)
Love both of them great work
Many thanks great video

I face this same issue. practice makes perfect i guess. very clear and easy to follow instructions also, thanks Trond.

Hi I have a question is the Nikon d850 a good camera for wildlife photography??? Because I’m getting one. 😁
Hi! absolutely...Its awesome for wildlife. A good tip is to buy the grip for it to get more framerate :)
Ok thank you
