One of the fun facts about this movie is that Stu is not an actor. He actually is an IT tech named Stu who went to school with Taika. Apparently he thought he only had a bit part in the movie until he saw it at the premiere.

Another fun fact is that Stu, later in his career, ended up being a founder of a film lighting/engineering-ish company. You can see one of his notable works in Thor: Ragnarok's Valkyrie vs Hela backstory fight sequence which is super cool with its use of slow mo and 360 lights effects. Worth checking out his company website for his other works!

So they had a story/script, but they didn't share it with the other actors. They set up lighting around the house and gave the direction of "we're starting HERE, we need to get to THIS beat by the end of the scene" and let them just go. They recorded hundreds of hours of acting in character and took a year or more if I remember to edit to actually form the story we end up with in the movie. Such an unreal process but so hilarious. As an example of how fast and loose the movie was, Stew was actually an IT guy that was helping out on set. The reason he doesn't actually say much in the movie is that he's actually not an actor. A good portion of the movie's story is based around a dude and the decision to just improve him into the movie.
It's worth looking on RUclips for some of the other random scenes that didn't end up in the movie. Like Vlad hypnotizing the phone company over the phone into not paying his phone bill.

About the vampire and silver: silver was supposed to be sacred, so it's not good for vamps. It's also why they couldn't reflect in mirrors, because they were made with silver. Nowadays they're not anymore, so they should be able to reflect.

There's two TV shows, the American 'What we do in the Shadows' with new characters but a few guest appearances of old favorites and also Wellington paranormal with the two police (and guest appearance by Nick!). They are both absolutely amazing!

@@spencerreed6014 I really dig ‘From Dusk ‘Til Dawn’, I like ‘John Carpenter’s Vampires’ (especially James Woods’ character), I haven’t yet seen ‘The Night Flyer’ (but will add it to my list), I like ‘Martin’ (but always thought it could benefit from a remake), & I really need to rewatch ‘Lifeforce’ (I remember thinking it was really weird, but in a good way).

If you were up for three more hours of it then you definitely need to watch the TV version, as there are now two seasons of it (hilariously executed) as well as two seasons of Wellington Paranormal, another spin-off from the movie, featuring the two cops and their ongoing encounters with every imaginable paranormal event which plagues them. Both series are top-notch TV comedy mockumentaries.

The practical and special effects are dope. Pretty sure any project filmed in New Zealand has crazy access to small studios that can do that shit in their sleep. That's what happens when 1/4 of the country gets involved in filming Lord of the Rings
