    When recording acoustic guitar with only one mic, position it around the 12th fret instead of in front of the sound hole. Almost any (good) studio condenser mic will sound "boomy" if you position it in front of the soundhole. The fact that the NW-700 doesn't shows it lacks low end. That might be fine for some situations, but in many situations you will want that low end.
    I found the mics pretty much identical. Personally I prefer the BM-800, bought one recently and it's an amazing mic. It even beats mic's 7 or 8 times it's price.

    • @SolidRockBluesBand
      @SolidRockBluesBand 7 лет назад +1

      I don't know about the Behringer's quality never tried that one, I like the sound of the BM-800 a lot but most of the time personal taste makes a lot of difference. The review makes it pretty clear what to expect from the BM-800 I'd say.

    • @RyanSilMusic
      @RyanSilMusic 7 лет назад +1

      Ya that is absolutely true, if you are not getting the dimension then you can't perfect it. Though what it seems that NW-800 will be good for vocal purposes as of that tight low end, difficulties will be lesser I think.

    I got the NW-800 and I'm happy with it. I will say that speaking into the dead spot back of the polar pattern gives a neat affect since it attenuates the highs. Gives you a deep ominous bassy sound.

  • @Dude13450
    @Dude13450 5 лет назад +8

    While they were pretty much identical in virtually every test, I personally feel like the BM800 picked up the amp better, coming from a person who is getting into self production of music particularly of the hard rock / metal side of the spectrum, I feel like the BM is the better choice. Thanks for a comparison! Ordering one in the next couple days!

    Coming back to a older video like this one is nice. The BM 800 is one of the most famous mics for creators in my country even though there are cheaper ones that sounds better in my opinion. The greatest selling point is that the BM 800 has a nice design compared to other budget friendly mics.

    To me the NW-800 sounds thin and tinny, so given the choice I'd go for the BM-800. They were both very poppy as well, and the quality falls off really quickly with distance. For vocals I'd recommend using the BM-800 with a pop filter, no more than 6-8" from your mouth.

  • @geraldsitorus
    @geraldsitorus 2 года назад +3

    Very surprised you chose the NW800. To me it sounds thin and I also hear some muddy cutoff in mid frequency. The BM800 is not so sparkly and a bit boomy but very easy to EQ out I think. Basically the sm58 basic EQ :D

  • @The7thCircuit
    @The7thCircuit 5 лет назад +1

    Thanks a lot for this video. Gonna buy the BM-800 instead of the NW-800 kit because of your video review. I immediately noticed the "boominess" of the bass-end of the sound the BM-800 immediately. Again ty for the in-depth review and God bless!

  • @ErickMcNerney
    @ErickMcNerney 8 лет назад +5

    I think they both would be better in certain applications, but overall I think I like the lower end feel of the BM800, and I think that may help avoid some of the hiss and room noise (most noise problems are higher frequency, if I'm not mistaken).

  • @EJVIDS

  • @rare_grooves_shack_1983
    @rare_grooves_shack_1983 7 лет назад +1

    one of the FEW reviewers that bothers to not only do ACTUAL demos, but the goes beyond just voice recordings and does different sources. the only thing i think that could make these demos better is throwing in extreme high & low frequency content like bass and kick drum plus cowbells, but considering just how much everyone else's ALLEGED demos suck, that's just nit picking. judging by the superior +4kHz highs and +7dB sensitivity, i expected the floreon to win & have airier highs, but specs never tell the whole story. thanks for your high quality demos. keep up the good work and MAYBE, down the road, you might do shootouts in stereo so both mics are recording the exact same thing that you can toggle back & forth between.

  • @fgonzalez90
    @fgonzalez90 5 лет назад +2

    Very good comparison!
    I think the BM-800 sounds better for instruments (especially, guitars) than the NW-800, which is better for vocals.
    ..but, considering that both are chinese-branded mics, and look VERY close each other (this model seems to be pretty standard), I think some differences in sound could be the result of several manufacturing inconsistencies (as with much of chinese-branded stuff). Perhaps, it's probably to get a BM-800 that sounds like a NW-800, and viceversa.

    I was hearing such good reviews on the bm800 that I decided to buy one and check it out. As a talk mic it's ok but there is distortion when the audio is loud. So I decided to dismantle it and see what type of mic insert it is.. The insert sits in a plastic holder 30mm wide. The actual insert is 15mm dia. but being curious I prised it out and with fine side cutters (wire cutters) I peeled away the metal casing and surprise surprise, the actual insert is a Radio Shack insert 10 mm dia which sell for $4.99. On ebay its 80 cents, So as the old addage goes you only get what you pay for. Gaz Sydney

    There is a lot of fizz happening on the Neewer mic during the electric guitar portion of the video. You also didn’t place the mics in the same position so that could account for the discrepancy in tones. The BM clearly sounded better in that specific test.

    i just took delivery of a bm800 which I paid $23 aussie..thats like usd $15....delivered!!!! I am blown away. Running it through a behringer fca1616. I can only run this with phantom power engaged, does not work without it. completely usable little mic for classical guitar and vocals, which is I have tested so far. I have mics of a similar quality like studio projects that i paid $150-200, and the bm800 is similar in every way..at this price I imagine QA at the factory is not great, and may be plenty around that aern't functioning properly. definitely going to order another..try my luck again. been home recording for 20 years. i can't believe you can get a mic for this price, let alone one that sounds decent..amazing bargain.

    I think the BM made your voice sound fuller. Each one could be okay after some post production e.q. as long as the noise was low. +JunJP02 As I said it was very close. Very similar sound with minor differences in the low end. The most noticeable difference was on the electric. Thanks for commenting.

    Hey man, thanks for a professional review btw but I had a question. Do you think it would sound ok if I just use the xlr to 3.5 mm jack or would it sound terrible or like not even work? Like would it be necessary to get an audio interface and would it be necessary or would the mic quality be good enough for me to use just to play games with friends sort of.

    I think the NW heard you more too at 1 foot then the BM. Kinda a shame as the BM I think it was was full range. Where the other 1 is not really.

      +Podcastage u actually I's a very good singer and also I purchased the bm 800 does it come with a stand

    • @Podcastage
      @Podcastage  8 лет назад

      It does not unless you ordered a microphone package that specifically says it comes with a microphone stand. You should check where you ordered it from and look at what is included.

    How did you get your mic to work in the um2? I don't hear anything coming from it. I plugged my phone into the combo input and I got very little sound
    edit: i received a defective device. I returned it for a refund. I read more reviews on the product and many others have stated that either one of the inputs were dead or they worked but produced an audible noise in the background.

    I use my Nw-800 for live streaming, I use a usb sound card and I had a hissing noise but not anymore but when I talk, I hear a corrupted noise sounding like a hacking sound effect. Any help?
