@@redeye4516 yeah because weird designs like these tend to be unreliable and expensive, and military equipment must be cheap and reliable first and foremost.

It's probably much more mechanically complicated 💯
Actually this is the main principle behind GSh-23 and GSh-30-2 aircraft cannons, they're also double barrel and recoil of one is used to fire another. So in this case he probably took it from the Gryazev&Shipunov iconic duo.
@@tatianapreobrazhenskaya9777Except in the GSh guns, the bolt moves, not the barrel. Dude's the Russian version of Kel-Tec.

Nikonov's "personal initiative" was just achieving the highest rate of fire he could with an AK based gun it seems
-Heavier
-Bulkier
-Waste ammunition quicker
-Funnier
If this was meant to shoot slow low flying aircraft with little in Rifle proof Armor (anything equivalent to10mm in Steel Armor minimum) like Hueys, little doubt it could see some purpose as a SAW that doubles as short range AA, because i doubt 100 rounds 2 sexond bursts of either 5,45 or 7,62x39 won't manage to kill the pilot(s) or damage something important.
Though this thing is practicaly useless for anything but having a guy whose entire combat load is this gun plus four Ammo backpacks worth in Drum mags.
@@andrehashimoto8056 If it was reliable enough, simple enough for field disassemble and can adjust the fire rate on the go it might just work. You can have it in normal setting for normal MGs duty and when you come across a helicopter, switch to AA mode and throw a cloud of lead in its direction. A 30 round mag goes out in 0.6 seconds of full auto fire with this thing. Considering the mechanism's effect on recoil, you might even hit something after the first two rounds.
I am 100% certain that Nikonov's philosophy of Guns is just "Moar Dakka" but real
Fun fact: this gun fires just over half a kilogram of ammo every second. Of course it wasnt adopted, you would need a wheelbarrow to carry what you need for a single firefight.
Something similar would be a good idea for a remote turret mounted on a tank or vehicle for infantry suppression and taking down drones.
If this gun really fired at 3,000 RPM, then that mean it fired 50 rounds per second! A 30 round magazine wouldn't even last a second. A 100 round belt would last 2 seconds! I love it, put it in all of the games! Tell Sledgehammer, tell Arrowhead, tell them all!
Democracy will never be distributed more efficiently than if arrowhead gets told about this
months ago I imagined a double barreled AA with this mechanism, totally at random, but I didn't know anyone had actually designed it for a firearm
It's a really cool idea, but that Gatling design and its results are unmatched.
Would like to see this in a game though, that's usually where these kind of ideas thrive. Good, but not enough to put into practical use.
They only ever implement things that are significant leaps in simplicity and effectiveness.

@@munanchoinc Ture. But I can easily see a scenario where the solution to this would have been to just give it a stupidly large Ammo box. 1 Because no one really cares how much a crew served gun team has to carry and 2 The people who'd have to come up with the solution don't have to carry it.
@@calamityhex3729 i dont think you need 50 rounds a second to supress people, it would just end up wasting more ammo. plus with that firerate maintenance would be more frequent and the barrels would overheat too fast.
Bulkier, more complicated, and a fire rate that makes it too easy to waste ammo is what makes this weapon impractical. Field stripping must have been a nightmare compared to other Soviet designed lmgs.

@@signup5787yea but those bullets hit like a truck
What was the mag size of this gun? Looks like it only has maybe 45 at most. 3000 RPM, but less than 1 second worth of bullets
Even then, short but massively intense bursts are something that were pursued by military development programs like SPIW - or the Abakan program with the mentioned AN-94.
Besides, this being an action testbed, it would probably receive a belt-fed implementation if it was to be picked up for further development and pushed into a sustained fire role.
"Don't let Sledgehammer see this"

i cannot imagine the amount of heat that would generate , let alone how unpractical would be in real life , but damm it looks cool
Wouldn’t the double barrels help with heat, in the same way a Gatling gun works?
@@ham_the_spam4423 The real problem is this gun holds 45 rounds which is slightly less than a typical LMG, at 3000 RPM it'll blow through all 45 rounds in less than a second.
the only flaw is that with a stick mag it runs out faster than a bugatti veyrons tires. shoulda been belt fed
I have a feeling that thing would have the accuracy of a shotgun.
Then again, nothing like accuracy through sheer volume of fire.
Looking at that box mag and the 3000 rpm fire rate, it probably also feels like using a single barrel shotgun because its going to empty that entire mag in 0.1 seconds.
So it uses the Gast principle, not unlike the GSh-23. Interesting!
bro thought he was a mad scientist
He was
Oh no, he was. You couldnt be a high-ranking soviet engineer without being insane it seems, in good or bad way.

If you're going to show AN-94, at least show the MW19 version, not the bastardized MW 2.5 one
In Rhodesia there was very interesting Halbek Device that can shoot without a recoil and attached to the barrel.
Not really without recoil, no. It just corrected the muzzle flip generated by the downward-facing holes on the original FAL muzzle device (it is fitted right over it). Well, in fact, it even overcompensates 😂
Same system the GSh 23 and 30 use
alternating barrels? you mean from the single mag?
That's way more faster than the kriss vector
it reminds me the Gryazev-Shipunov GSh-23 that actually did enter service as a aircraft gun, particularly as tail gun for soviet bombers
Kalashnikov : Lets make a gun that every part can be replaced with trash and still work.
Nikonov : Hey lets make a clock in a gun and make the most complicated guns there is to exist!
I like the slick look of all his guns though, but really, a anti aircraft gun mechanism in a rifle?

Nikonov was the mad scientist of firearms
So you telling me, if you put two of this things together its practically a minigun
i am in awe that youtube recommended me this. because i've been brainstorming what's the best mechanism for a twin barrel machine gun, and one of the ideas that popped to my head was basically how this functioned, the other idea was an open-bolt closed bolt system.
Now imagine an MG42 that also used this same idea.

Also forgotten weapons will run out of content.
i want this but in Anti aircraft format. imagine 3,000 mortars going off a minute. i think the concussion would kill everyone on the battlefield, even the people firing it
This is the gunsmithing equivalent to a Killdozer. except with good intentions... I think??
Its pretty much an alternator from Titanfall but rifle size
I thought it was Funny, and wanted to Import it in GFL, until I knew about TZ-23 the Myanmar Partisans 3d Printed “Partially Legitimate” son of AK-47 and M-16, that is soo cheap to manufacture in their conditions, and has a perspective to become something more serious than we know it now… Maybe we’ll see it’s platform in more conflicts further…
What if...Nikonov MG would have worked similarly to how AN-94 works...but make 2 AN-94s welded together! And use AK-74u's muzzle booster on both barrels, burst-fire mode would be horrendous
"You know what, comrade? I'm going to design a double-barrel machine gun."
"Ah, for military procurement?"
"No, no, because I'm bored and want to see if it works."
Holy shit.
Ah, the Gast automatics. Obviously not very practical for infantry use, but it is widely adopted in Russian Aviation, with GSh 23 and GSh 2-30, or in anti-air systems with 2a38. And yes, those guns fire extremely fast as well.
the kind of shit i think of with no consideration for the inside workings:
well there is some but im not an engineer to actually build shit like this and realize how bad my ideas are.
To put it better, the main gun of the A-10 aircraft can fire 3200 rounds per minute.
This is incredible when you consider that this gun can fire 3000 rounds in 1 minute.
Additionally, this machine gun can fire up to 2 Ak-47 magazines every second.
The buff heavy needs in tf2
