I was like: "Yeah, never seen that ship!", only to see the clips and realize: " Yeah, I have seen that ship.". It simply never stood out to me, which kinda fits what it is.

I like “smaller” ships like this. Their size makes them a far more realistic and relatable than than far larger ones we often see.
Yeah, it seems like the kind of ship a scoundrel crew would find wrecked somewhere, fix up, and use as their home/ship to do crime and stuff across the galaxy

the issue with space is it's freaking massive, and you're going in/out of an atmosphere, the result is you ned alooot of supplies and logistics equipment to get anywhere, esp if you're doing something like freight
even irl, the "ships" we use in space are massive (they're typically 58 meters, aka the size of a super yacht and only slightly smaller than the gozanti) , know what they don't have? extra engines, the ability to haul a bunch of cargo more than to a space station, a bunch of weapons, the need to carry days, weeks or months worth of supplies for the crew, logistics equipment (you DO want navigation in a ship that's going through space no? don't want to veer off and end up months away from the nearest habitable planet)

it's expensive but also not really an optional part of a multi planet affair
the main reason our rockets are relatively small is just sheer cost, we don't NEED them to be bigger (like a multi planet shipping or logistics effort would) and 20,000 tons (about equal to a modern freight ship on the ocean) would cost ~$4 trillion to launch..to put that into perspective, the U.S IS 20, China is 14, Japan is 5, and everything else has a total GDP less than the required costs to launch a single ship
spaceships in an intergalactic setting would be massive, there's not really a need to limit them, but there would also be space docks that act as ports for their respective worlds with smaller ships and other mechanisms to do the last leg of the journey (very likely using newer alloys to make a series of space elevators over each planet, as while we're still not there irl we'd close and it is technically feasable..albeit we don't have it yet)
but ships themselves? yeah no, those are going to be large by sheer requirement of the job, a 63 meter ship is like building an aircraft carrier the size of a sub, it's neat...and entirely useless

I love how the fantastical star wars universe has expanded so much to include reasonable, mundane inventions for economic niches. It's a real testament to the power of imagination.

That could totally be it, but with decades of inspired creators I hope it's a bit more than slapped on screen-filler. I like to think there's just one guy who REALLY has a thing for the ships. A total engine-head who won't let the little details slip.
And a dedication to a more convincing, and complete, visual aesthetic.
It's literally just the Star Wars version of the Type-10 Defender from Elite: Dangerous. I freaking love that game and I love Star Wars.
I wish they called this the Carrack class light Cruiser- it looks similar and has the same mission for the Empire. For people who don't know the Carrack Class Light Cruiser was basically the same kind of ship from Legends- right down to being a basic small ship in the Empire and carrying Ties on external racks.
I’d fly a cargo variant of this ship, it scratches my inner space trucker.
They make those, they’re called _C-ROC_ Gozanti-class light cruisers.
The Gozanti is actually one of my favourite SW ships; it's not flashy, it's not overpowered, but it can do a lot of different jobs owing to it's reliability, simplicity and general good design. A good half-dozen variants, decades of service, a big middle finger to the Tarkin doctrine, the Gozanti has it all.
Yes it spends half it's screen time getting shot at and overpowered, yes it's probably the most blatant flying brick in the galaxy but I still love it.
ngl same, its just so interesting and even though yes its a flying loaf of bread its still pretty cool. It can pretty much do everything a basic civilian needs. Defending from pirates, Transporting Cargo, Moderate Guns, Decent Speed and Hyperspace. All round good!

As a long haul truck driver, this ship has a special place in my heart. The second I saw it, I fell in love with it.
I love the ship. And I was so glad to see it in the mandalorian. Although It seems that it was another variant with upgraded turrets. Much like the upgraded and upscaled arquitens class (which might be my favorite ship in the entire star wars universe).
I still think "upscaled" is a stretch of logic for Gideon's ship. We've consistently seen that animated series vessels are apparently smaller than their live action counterparts. This is especially obvious on the bridge of ISDs in Rebels which are notably smaller than what we see in the films. It's simply a stylistic choice that has little bearing over the specified statistics of these vessels. As for hangar space, bear in mind that the relatively dimunitive Raider-II could embark a number of starfighters in internal hangars.
That being said, the Arquitens is already a massive ship at 325m length and with a large amount of internal space and it's not unreasonable to imagine a modified type that can serve as a smaller planetary assault vessel. We already know this is at least possible given the existence of the Thunderwasp subtype, which in all likelihood was a single vessel serving as the eventual prototype for these post-Imperial era vessels.
I think Gideon's ship is just a modernized and refitted Arquitens which may or may not have an enlarged bridge structure to better suit his needs of a relatively compact and powerful flagship that wouldn't draw unwanted attention.
The Gozanti got f***ed in that shitty Empire hating show, like everything and everyone else asserted to the Empire.
honestly, realistic straitforward ship designs like the gizantie are underrated, if I had to choose a personal ship it would def be it
They're not upgraded and upscaled (at least in-universe), that's just how they're meant to be
@@nagger8216 the Arquitens in Mandalorian is not an Arquitens class strickly as its designated as a different subclass.. its bigger becase a shuttle fits into the bow "jaws" with wings folded where in the 325m one only the shuttle fuselage fits.

I know this was alluded to, but as starships go, the Gozanti was cheap as chips, while not actually being a built-on-the-cheap design. For the price of two TIE Defenders, you could buy _three_ Gozantis. Part of that is because Defenders are basically the F-22 Raptor of the Star Wars universe (fast, extremely capable, and eye-wateringly expensive), but still.
It's also kind of amazing how the CEC came up with such a flexible design: the same spaceframe can be anything from a light cruiser, to a troop transport, to a civilian freighter, to a spy ship, to really anything else you feel like making it. There are probably luxury passenger liner versions out there. Those jobs all have _completely_ different requirements, but something about the Gozanti lends itself to being fitted out for any of them and serving effectively.
The CEC is legendary for their ability to design easily modified and adaptable ships. The YT-2400 had everything ready to have it's engines switched to more powerful (and less legal) ones as well as mounts and access to a power grid that could supply heavy weapons.
After the success of the YT2200 they designed it to be even more easily modified than it's successor.
The only thing they didn't do was adding a guide to the ship where to get that illegal stuff.
I love how I thought "Ah, the Gozanti, the Toyota Hilux of the Star Wars galaxy" and a minute later Allen made the exact comparison.

This was the weirdest synchronicity I've ever experienced. When Rebels first started, this seemed like an entirely new kind of ship. Until the show finished and I suddenly started seeing it everywhere in Clone Wars.
It's more of a heavy duty commercial ship.

I honestly love this ship. I love the the utilitarian design, and I always imagine it being one hell of a home for a rebel, Pirate, or smuggler group.
Imagining one of these flanked by two Razor Crest gunships as support ships is really satisfying.

Also PT-Boats in space are another great option.
I’m hoping The Mandolorian gets himself a ship like this to haul around his new gang of Mando commandos that will be flocking to his side. He can add an attachment frame to hold his Naboo star fighter on the roof, if not a cargo bay. Grogu and Din woukd have plenty of room for the new gang and to hold bounties/ enemy prisoners. I’m hoping that since the destroyed his home on the razor crest, they will give him an upgrade like this.

Not gonna lie, I'd completely forgotten that thing, it is often such a common sight. Didn't know the civvie model had come already armed, that musta been fun to get past Republic Regulations.

They actually allowed armed civillian ships. There were too many pirates around for the Republic to deal with and of course there was a lot of space outside the Republic. The Republic and the Empire didn't even make up a quarter of the galaxy. So ship builders could simply set up shop outside the Republic and they would loose all that revenue. Sure the production costs are higher because of the needed security and stuff, but hey better less profit than no profit at all. And others, like the Hutts would appreciate the extra income.
In the legends Han Solo novels he visits a planet where the Millennium Falcon had more firepower than the local navy, which was one aging small cruiser which was waiting for parts to get even off the ground as the local government didn't hve the money for them. The only reason that region had no pirates was... simply put? There was nothning to steal that was worth the trouble. Even if you were into the slavery business, there were better sources.
The planet was so far behind the times, that the printer Han delivered to the local university was financed by someone off-planet and could easily print forged local money.
Yes, the planetary government had been scammed by those selling them the 'forgery-proof' money and by those that essentially off-loaded their old nearly broken down ship.
The best part is when translated to American dollars it cost 300,000 dollars, so you could buy this instead of a house

The Raider class is so dope that I picked up the X-Wing Mini tabletop game version of it. Thing is like a foot long. Easily my favorite corvette class ship in the canon.

I'm in love with the idea of having having a Gonzanti class cruiser to make into a home and travel the Galaxy in.
You know, I think the first guys I'd hire to grow my imperial fleet is the Corellians. All of their ships are extremely modular, plus half of everyone in space has crewed one of them. Fit a fleet to match whatever roles, and have at it!
I definitely love these videos about mundane freight ships like the Gozanti-class cruiser. ISDs and other warships might seem cool, but they become useless if they can’t receive their supplies needed to make them work. I’d like to see more freighters like the Action VI or those Imperial container ships you see in the Star Wars: Rebels TV Show.
Honestly this ship is solid, from the CW up to the Imperial Remnant.

The utilitarian machines that make a fighting force possible never get the attention. Not unlike the real world liberty ships of WW2.

@@Deridus well just two survive as museum ships. They still hold the production record. Less than 96 hours to completely build one. Granted that was a point proving race.
I saw some figures once about the number of support trucks required for each tank in WWII. I forget the exact number but it was something silly like 90 trucks for each tank.
@@neliusbresnan3766 the defense department made a similar calculation on “logistical material” (tents, medical, ammo, socks and boots ect.) a American infantryman had 2200 pounds of material support. Compared to 19 pounds for the average IJA soldier.

My trio of extremely underappreciated ships I absolutely LOVE are the Gozanti, the Arquitens, and the Vindicator Classes
The Gozanti in particular is a stellar vessel, and one of the more utilitarian and practical ship designs in it's universe
I like these kinds of videos. It'd be cool to see the Action VI explained in a similar video.
I have loved the Gozanti since I saw it in Ep. 1 and it is my top fav utilitarian ship of Star Wars
If I were a merc or a smuggler and had the money, the Gozanti is my first choice just for the versatility and durability it has.
Funny timing because I've been playing the Star Wars mod for X4 Foundations and yes, the Gozanti is indeed the workhorse of the galactic economy (or at least my slice of it). It's the perfect balance of speed, defense, offense and cargo capacity.
I loved the Gozanti in Rebels and after seeing it in the Mandalorian I have to say that it's one of my favorite SW ships. I really hope to see the IGV-55 variant on a live action show someday. Could fit in the spy segments of the Andor show.
You know it’s interesting. When me and group of friends were setting up our mandalorian OC squad. We were trying to figure out what would be a good “‘mothership”. It had to be cheap, durable and big enough for a large group. We actually choose this one!
I love the Gozanit. It looks like a very REAL ship. Blocky, utilitarian. Loved it since I saw it. Perfect ship for a role-playing group to fly in - regardless of the campaign.
Also, in the canon novel Lost Stars it is revealed that a gozanti was sent to Yavin to retrieve/rescue Vader after the destruction of the first Death Star.
I love the look and feeling of the Gozanti, flying them and around them in X3 and X4 mods are great, they rear view shot from mandalorian looks real cool. Their functions and tie carriers are also amazing I love em
I might not be the best judge of scale, but I always felt the Gozanti from Mandalorian season 2 felt a little... gigantic. Like WAY bigger than 5 x-wings long. It even has an elevator!
Perfect timing! My tabletop group decided to get a Gozanti as our party vessel. I only wish it had more cargo capacity for something of its size

It looks a lot like the space rv i made for my first space engineers build lol. It might not have been safe, but hey at least it could land and scan for ores unlike my mushroom ship that couldn't be redocked once i seperated it lol.
The Gozanti has always been the one ship that I felt that if i lived in the star wars universe, I would love that ship. I think Star CItizen has a couple ship series based off of it.

If you took one and retrofitted with a class 1 or faster hyperdrive and discreetly shoe horned in some powerful engines add hidden pop out weapons turrets you could have a pretty good smuggler ship hidden in plain sight
If thats where you want to go, then start with a C-ROC Gozanti (or have a Gozanti upgraded with the C-ROC package). It includes five engines (increased sublight speed) and retractable weapons (four quad laser turrets and two medium turbo laser turrets) as well as medium range sensor dish.

@@thomas.parnell7365 I disagree. The C-ROC package included the five engines so they would not be out of place. All of the upgraded weapons are retractable, so they are undetectable until deployed.
For all intents and purposes, it would appear to be a normal Gozanti freighter and blend into the background. With a couple of intermal upgrades, shields, sensors, hyperdrive and maybe a couple concealed warhead launchers, you'd have a pretty decent little ship on your hands.
I've always loved this ship. I don't know what it is about Corellia's boxy ships but I absolutely love them and would love to have one if they actually existed. This one in particular caught my attention the first time I saw it on screen (up close at least). I think it's the look of durability and reliability I like most.
One of my favorite ships, I hope I can buy one in the open world star wars game
In my tabletop SW game, my character flew one of these ships. Large cargo space, heavy armor and a dorsal turret plus port and starboard concealed light turbolasers meant pirates had a bad day.
I am actually a bit sad that almost all of the small imperial frigates and escort ships from the old EU have not made it to the new Disney canon and will probably not come because they got replaced by the Gozanti cruiser.
This is the equivalent to the Excelsior Class Starship in Trek. The Backbone And workhorse of Starfleet.
The Gozanti is a pretty solid ship to have at your disposal and I do like it. Reminds me a bit of an old EU ship, the Carrack-class light cruiser. The Carrack differed in being both larger (350 meters) and purely military but shared the durability and vintage. I would love to see a video dedicated to it also.
I'd personally be interested in a series of videos about various ships that are great choices for your average person to use as a personal vessel.
Honestly if I was choosing a small multipurpose starship to use I'd almost certainly chose the Gozanti Class.

My Star Wars RPG group often ends up with a Gozanti as our base, ol' reliable tank of a ship
Seems these DID actually have a good military role... sounds like these would make great CAS atmosphere support/gunships for ground troops and also make good anti fighter support in fleet engagements or good shock or interceptor/assault craft depending on the configuration...
Other than that this ACTUALLY sounds like a jack of all trades craft or one the craft with a version or possible configuration to meet just about any reasonable role for a craft of its size.
As far as the military goes, it fills the same niche as the C-130. You want to move cargo? There’s a variant. You want something to head a system defense fleet? There’s a variant. You want some extra tie support alongside your fleet escorts? There’s a variant.
You wanna do something stupid like cover it in signal dishes or attach rocket boosters to make a STOL? We’ll mod it.
@@pretzelbomb6105 IKR... Given some groups like the Empire an its off shoots i wouldn't be surprised if there's one made for planetary actions.. That literally deploys legs and walks around.. Given the factions apparent fetish for such military vehicles apparently regardless of the era they are.
This is my kind of vessel, in any universe. Thanks for showcasing it! Also: ah, Star Wars... this kind of worldbuilding is why my fantasy TTRPG concept spent 10 years in development with no genuine progress. It's glorious fun, but I'm focusing on what matters for play and publication, now...

The first time I noticed this ship was in star wars rebels. However, when I became more aware of this ship, I started seeing it everywhere. This is a great video.
It appeared to me that the Gozanzi- class vessels are always the favorite class of ships of both the Republic and the Empire.
Didn't know that the ship's first appearance was in The Phantom Menace.
I didn't notice it until Star Wars Rebels came out.
Initially everyone said that was Kyke Katarn's ship. We were speculative about everything even back then.

I've honestly always liked this ship. Good to know it's a tough one.
Back in the day there was a fun and interesting RPG set in the Star Wars Universe called Edge Of The Empire. The Gozanti was by far the most useful, versatile, and ubiquitous ship in that milieu. It was also the maximum challenge that the person running the game could use against the players while still giving them a fighting chance. Whereas using any of the other Imperial capital ships was just a way of saying to the players that the Empire was using overwhelming force.

This video gave me some Elite: Dangerous vibes. I feel like the Lakon Type 6 (cargo hauler)/Keelback (smuggler/combat variant) & the larger Type 7 (cargo hauler) ships are very similar to the Gozanti. Same can go for quite a few other ships in E:D when compared to something in Star Wars. I think Alan or one of the Bens should take a look at their ship designs in a video. They're pretty awesome.
In case anyone here has played, my favorites are Vulture, Asp Explorer, Python, Krait Mk2, Anaconda, Fed Corvette. Honorable mentions go to one of the Alliance Challenger/Crusader/Chieftain variants (forgot which one is the good one), I think the Krait Phantom is also good for exploration but lacks the fighter hangar, Fed Gunship is a good combat brick, Fer De Lance and Mamba own in pvp.
Game is "fun" from the standpoint of realistic space flight mechanics and the nearly 1:1 representation of the milky way. Their algorithm even predicted the existence of planets and celestial bodies before we discovered them irl. It also looks gorgeous. It can get mind numbingly tedious though with the mechanics, so I haven't played in maybe 2.5 years after burning out.
I like it. One of my favourite CEC ships. If I was in star wars I think a transport with loads of spares available and the ability to dock a protective fighter or two would be great. Although it does have a hard start it shares the pages of the CEC catalogue with the YT-1300, CR 90, CR 70, hammerhead, and other such cool and reliable ships.
I just love Allen’s view of the world, it’s just so refreshing.

Very cool video. I wasn't aware that the Gozanti Class was ever offered as a civilian ship. I've mostly seen it in Rebels and assumed it was an Imperial military transport. Sort of a space faring C-130.
Definitely going on the "Keep in mind" list if I land in Star Wars. Right next to the VCX-100, the YT-1300 and the Pelta class frigate.
If were possible for me to collect such things, I would definitely have a few of these in my armadas. "Flying bricks", with plentiful defensive and offensive capabilities, and high yield cargo capacity..always a good idea.

I love this ship..... simply by the fact that looks like a cargo plane rather than tubes with engines (like the cr 90 wich i love too) this one remembers me an asthetic and role cross between the 747 jumbo and the work that the DC3 Dakota do in ww2 till now.... basically a cargo plane rugged resilient and simply enough to work decades.
So the Gozanti is like the Miranda-Class, the workhorse of its respective fleets often overlooked and underappreciated for the role it plays.
