    I definitely don’t drop enough with my head movement, but I think a lot of that is because I train Muay Thai exclusively nowadays...and I really don’t wanna get knocked out in the ring with a surprise knee or roundhouse to the face 🤷‍♂️
    I notice a lot of people are saying similar, so I guess it’s all about finding that sweet spot to any given situation...moving the head sufficiently to avoid incoming attacks, but not over slipping or moving the head without good cover with the hands.
    PS. Up to around 250k+ subs in the next 12 months brother, for sure. 💪
    “Ohhh Paul...you’re such a fanboi!” 😆🙄
    Well yeah, guilty I guess. If you’re here regularly and you’re not a huge fan of this amazing guy, then I don’t think you understand martial arts, or humanity in general tbh. 😌

    I would love Gabriel to review the Canelo vs Kovalev fight. Why was one of the most feared punchers in boxing suddenly unable to hurt a guy much smaller than him. It's crazy. It looked like he wasn't able to generate any power. Why? Was he scared of the counter or did Canelo block them so well? Probably both.

    • @tonypaella
      @tonypaella 11 месяцев назад

      I think Canelos reputation as a counter puncher preceded him. And he did threaten Kovalev with counters all night. Add to that, Kovalev probably wasn't at his best that night. Kovalev also isn't a volume puncher so that's great for a guy like Canelo.

      Keep moving. Footwork. Dont stand still on one place. It's way easier to hit a standing target rather than one that is moving.
      If you then combine footwork and head movement is what is best in my opinion.

    I can see the mistake, to stop your consecutive hooks from "feeling awkward": make them tighter ! May help if you initiate in the same path as a vertical fist, but then switch to horizontal [at the same time as utilizing the diagonal torso leverage]. And when bringing one back, have the guard as upturned-palm at ear level (which should make everything easier, also a great guard with the MMA gloves you will be using).
    Now concerning slipping in the other direction, that would be adaptation of the shovel hook [fist upturned by only 45°]; but with this the hips must also go forward.

    Many years ago when I was in the gym, the old heads always mentioned move slightly off line, there is no need to make hime miss by a mile. Just a slight miss and back is better than a wide miss. Thoughts?

    • @GabrielVargaOfficial
      @GabrielVargaOfficial  2 года назад +18

    Great topic to approach, thank you. I was wondering, on the topic of slipping, what's you opinion on altering the stance height with the slip, particularly in the context of kickboxing, where kicks are an issue. What I mean is should you lower the stance with the slip or maintain the stance height, do you consider it likely for a kick to come when you slip if you lower the stance too much or is the risk low? I'm asking this because I was always a big fan of Mike Tyson's style of lowering his stance during a slip. Clearly he didn't have to worry about potential incoming kicks, so I'm curious of your opinion on it. Have a good one and Happy New Year!

      @GabrielVargaOfficial  2 года назад +1

      That's not a bad idea to get the head off the centre line every time you enter to attack.
      It's not necessary once you get more experienced but in the beginner will help establish the technique.

    I always see people slip wayyyh too much, especially in kickboxing. Used to make the mistake a lot and just miss counters or run into shots. You have to skip so minimally to make a punch miss and it makes it so much faster and efficient. You get your shot off soo much faster. I literally pivot like I'm throwing a punch and usually load up a hook/uppercut/cross on the opposite side I pivot. Took me forever to make my movements just smaller and quicker in general but making your movements smaller and quicker will make you absolutely deadly. You just become so much harder to read.
