If you want to cook a lobster humanely, buy a big bag of ice and put the live lobster in an ice chest that you would use for picnics, etc. or the largest cooking pot you have, then pour the ice cubes all round them. They will go semi-comatose, like they do in the coldest time of the year in the water they live in. They won't move around at and it will keep them fresh until you want to cook them. I wouldn't leave them longer than a couple of hours but it depends on the room temperature. If you can put them in a porch or cold spot in your house, that will keep them in this state longer, but the ice cubes must not all melt. When you put them in the pot of boiling water there will be no movement at all. We've tried lots of other ways but this is our preferred method. From a Canadian East coaster who has cooked lots of lobster.
I made this for Valentines Day and my husband gave you the biggest compliment ever. While I was making them, along with the day pickles, he said “I’m glad you’re having fun cooking” which kind of caught me by surprise because, well, my house burned down in 2017 and then my dog died, not long after a dear friend died and holy hell, it’s been a long road back to just messing around in the kitchen. Anyway, I said, “How can you tell I’m having fun?” I was honestly curious because I wasn’t really aware of much besides making a mess. His answer was, “Because you’re not swearing.” Best ever comment and kudos to you for bringing cooking without swearing back to my life!!! Thank you from the bottom of my little black heart. I love you!
THANK YOU for teaching about what happens when lobsters are dropped into boiling water. I'd like to point oy that the same applies to crabs, particularly dungeness crabs. Enjoy & Bon Appétit!
I love your videos. Regardless how perfect a host wants things to be, the entire purpose of dinner parties is to enjoy good food and company. Many of us that know how to prepare meals for parties by whether hosting or hired out to do so, just remember it all works out in the end. : )
We couldn't agree more!! thats EXACTLY how we feel dinner parties should be too!!! anyone and everyone can have one!!! thank you for your comment and for watching DPT!!!
So I’m sitting here the day before thanksgiving 2020. It’ll be just the hubby and me, so I’m making all our favorites. This will be our noonish snack before the main event. Really, the only request hubby had was for me not to wear myself to a frazzle, so today I’m making an apple pie for tomorrow’s dessert, and I cheated and bought premade pie crust dough. As I’m unrolling it, it shattered into literally a hundred pieces, but I had just rewatched the video, so I acted like a dinner partier. I kept each pie crust between the two sheets of “parchment” and just rolled it together (I actually did it for both crusts and the second one was so perfect, I have to admit it’s better than any crust I’ve made from scratch.). Thanks for saving the day! I’m looking forward the the lobster puffs tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving!
Hi I am enjoying your show , I think your recipes and techniques are great. And you are hilarious!, I find your sing very entertaining. Where do you get your aprons ?

I just watched the ribeye episode and when I heard you say, "butta", I was thinking, "Two sticks uh buttah"... I was sad when you never said "Tea sticks uh buttah" when you throw the butter in the pan! Such an unfortunate missed opportunity. 🤣💖

My Lobster Puff Pastry brings all the boys to the yard!
Great video!
Just found you…I love your programs!! So helpful AND entertaining!
I thoroughly enjoyed the multiple references to "poo" in this episode! :)
Yum!! Making this for next family get-together! I also want to thank you for taking time to teach everyone the humane way to cook lobster. 🥰
I really love the way she talks about the ethics of cooking and how we should treat animals humanely. Nobody wants to eat an animal that suffered.
Thank YOU for watching!! Please stay tuned for more videos to come!
❤️️Love it!
You’re pretty awesome! Lol now I’ll be up all night watching your other videos!
