    I ordered a sword from Swords of Northshire as well. When I got it, it far exceeded my expectations. First thing I noticed was that it arrived exactly as I ordered. They even sent me pics before it was shipped to make sure it was what I wanted. I’ve pretty much watched all of your videos so when I received the sword I kind of critiqued it using the kind of criteria you use. That being said, the Itto was ultra tight the Fuchi and kashira had no ledge and perfect transitions. The hibaki to the koi guchi was severely tight as is yours. Overall the best thing about the sword is how lively it is. It was really light very, very easy to use and amazingly balanced! Overall the presentation was gorgeous. I chose the folded differentially hardened 1095 with natural Hamon in a wave theme with bo hi. It’s a truly magnificent mid range priced piece of art. (Forgive my syntax errors) I was excited to see that you had gotten one as well and couldn’t wait to watch this video and see what you thought.

      I tend to have a lot of requests for Swords of Northshire and Cold Steel. At least if I look at the most common request. Bryce and Swords of Northshire was kind enough to send a sample so I can make a test video. I hope it helps give people perspective on what to expect. I don't know how the treatment I receive would be different than another customer but so far I have enjoyed the experience of ordering the sword.

    I have a couple of swords from Swords of Northshire. Great people to work with. The first sword I ordered was specified to have a Bi-Hi. Sword came without one ( I missed it on the pre-shipping pictures). Anyway, I contacted them and they made it right without questions. My fit was tight as well but I would rather have it tight than too loose as I can fix tight easily. Excellent customer service and I believe very nice blades for the price.Thanks for the review.

    I had these guys make a nagamaki for me, other than them not being able to make it quite as long as I would have like due to shipping considerations I had a very solid experience and it actually got to me pretty quickly considering that everything except the fittings was custom made. Solid company, and my sword/polearm functions incredibly well and was well fitted. Glad to see them getting some press.

    Ok, I know that in most of your videos, if not all, that you state the fact that you're not a katana expert at all, but at the same time, knowing how you give such in depth detail about the swords you get, I was SO eager to see your particular feedback on swords of northshire. I watch some of your stuff, only when it's about katanas, and mainly when you do destruction tests, and I wanted VERY badly for you to do a review and destruction test on one of their swords, because aside from them, the ONLY other sword company I trust is a company called ryan sword, and they have sort of a bad reputation, even one concerning their customer service from myself, but their steel is HARD to argue with, their stuff is GOOD, I ONLY wish their customer service was a lot better, unless it has improved since I last dealt with them, which was a long time ago, maybe around 2 years ago.

      @@rossyalung6326 oh yeah you'll be happy with it. Just try to avoid the folded steel because it could potentially weaken the blade. These look like very nice swords. And the prices look almost too good to be true for this kind of custom work. How do these Northshire swords compare to Citadel? I just built a custom katana on their site and with everything, even a display stand, was less than $600. Which is like an order of magnitude cheaper than Citadel... Really interested to know how the quality compares...

    • @Matthew_Jensen
      @Matthew_Jensen  5 лет назад +7

      It is not the same level of sword. Lots of things are different and Citadel is a superior product. I will do a bit of comparison in another video but it is easy to see that the citadel bamboo is better than the sword I have in the video here. The Citadel bamboo should be, it is $2800 vs $475. They are really going after different markets and not for the same customer. $475 to get a sword that was made to my spec is not bad and needs to be considered when looking over the other options. Anyway, it is a decent sword but I need to play with it more.

      @Matthew_Jensen  5 лет назад

      That is a deep question and I don't have a great answer. I can say that it goes both ways. Some people thing one art, system, culture, or way is better than another. It could be true or false and I am not qualified to judge. What I can say is many of the arguments made by one side or another are typically looking at a very specific set of facts without taking into consideration all of the context. It is a fun fantasy argument to say if some omnipotent being were to abduct a knight and a samurai of equal weight, skill, age, experience, ect... who would win? It is another fun thing to computationally model a fight between the same opponent and see who wins most of the time. To folks who have a strong interest in both, there is an understanding that the topic has a depth that makes it hard to quantify. Most people just want to know which is better katana or longsword, knight or samraui...

      Was pretty nice, only flaws were low quality leather Ito, the type with rough edges, and was fairly blunt around the yokote. I replaced the Ito and menuki myself.

      Thx for telling me @Gorebashed , I made up my mind and decided to buy the huawei T10 clay tempered Unokubi Zukuri, no bo-hi for 268$ after looking towards the positive reviews and non of the negatives

    It's cool that they can do different kinds of etched hamon, but I always thought of it as an unhappy incidental. Are you proposing that people ask for those on purpose?! Weird world

      I can't say that everyone does, but I did. I wanted to show how they do as many things as possible. I would not expect someone to ask for different hamon on different sides.. or to have one side be a different bohi.. That said, I asked for it and they did it. From the customization side of things that is promising.

      @@Matthew_Jensen mostly kidding on my part, I get that your goal was to showcase the customization potential. From that standpoint it's a win.

    How do you do a video of a sword you ordered and you do not even know the steel. You got a lot of knowledge but seriously? I mean really!

    • @Matthew_Jensen
      @Matthew_Jensen  4 года назад

      The main reason is I don't care that much. At least not about the type of steel. Also, I went back and forth about the steel type a bit over email and some things get lost in the fray. The steel type happens quite a bit because of the aforementioned main reason. If that was not enough excuses, I have more..
